Every good coach will tell you that everyone needs a coach.

Most coaches have a coach. You are never done learning, most coaches constantly seek more, they have a drive to keep learning. Attending workshops, clinics, webinars, lessons for theirselves, they’re always learning, and if they aren’t… find a new one.

A coach will stand in your corner, to show you what you are capable of. They will inspire you, push you to your breaking point, but they’re doing that to show that you can do it… Your goals can be accomplished, and they are possible! When you look back in 15 years from now at all the coaches you’ve had along the way, all the ups and downs, in some way you’ll thank every single one of them. I know I did. I sit back and of course I have ones that stood out more than others, but every single one of them along the way taught me something. I aspire to make just a small mark in my few students, even if it’s something small. That’s my goal as a coach.

Be humble- nobody’s perfect, we’re all learning one way or another. Most importantly, help each other out and have fun doing it.

Chiropractor care in our equine athletes is one of the most important maintenance you can give them!

They can’t perform their best if they aren’t feeling their best. So glad we have a team of very knowledgeable and amazing people who work their magic. (Chiro, massage, taping, ferrier, vet, osteopath)

So here’s your reminder to get your horse a chiro adjustment, they’ll thank you 😉

Let’s talk a little bit about ba****ck riding…

This is something that I personally don’t do enough of, yes there’s the bond between a horse and rider when you’re riding ba****ck but there’s actually much more than that from a training perspective.

To really get a feel for your riding, feel your mistakes, feel where you’re off balance, feel where you’re holding onto their mouth to stay on, feel where you’re not using enough leg to the right, feel when you drop your shoulder or lean. You can feel everything that you’re doing wrong if you really think about it in the moment.

I ride by myself most of the time, hopping on ba****ck helps me focus and think about “okay, now what am I doing that I can improve on to better myself as a rider and be better for my horse?”

Now I’m not talking about getting on and going for a trail ride. That won’t tell you anything. That will tell you when your horse spooks at a bird if you can stay on or not… I’m talking about taking the time to actually ride your horse ba****ck.

Feeling how soft and supple your horse is, using your legs and feeling how your horse responds off of them. Just because I have a halter on doesn’t mean I’m going to take that for granted and pull my horses face around to make her listen. If she isn’t listening to my leg and seat at a walk in a halter that means it’s time for me to go back to square one as there’s major holes in my training.

Start at the walk that’s step #1… once you can do things at the walk and feel yourself balanced and square on your horse, not pulling on their face, having full control then you can move up to a jog/trot.

This isn’t an easy task. I personally tonight had a very rude awakening on how off balanced I am on this horse. This just means I go back and work harder and do this more often.

Oh and the benefit is… less time tacking up 😜

Send me a pm if you want to chat more or want to trailer in for a lesson.

No. These are not pickled eggs. These are homegrown, unwashed eggs stored in lime water. The lime water fills in all the pores of the egg and encases them in a shell of "glass". Water glassed eggs can last stored at room temperature like this for up to 2 years. This method of preserving raw eggs has been used since the 1800s and was common even into the 1940s and 50s. When refrigerators became a standard kitchen appliance, water glassing almost became a lost art.

You cannot use commercial eggs for this because they have all had the protective coating (bloom) washed off the shell and will quickly go bad. I recently scrambled up 18 eggs that had been stored in lime water for 7 months on an unrefrigerated cupboard shelf and they tasted perfectly fresh (although the yoke seemed a bit thinner than fresh eggs).

Anyhow, if you have an abundance of fresh, unwashed eggs, you might want to try putting some away for later. The ratio is one ounce (by weight) of lime (calcium hydroxide) to one quart of water. Calcium hydroxide is a completely natural, organic ingredient and harmless, although the powder is very fine and may irritate your lungs if you breathe it in. The lime water also quickly dried out the skin on my hands and I had to apply lotion to get them back to normal. When you do use the eggs, be sure to rinse them thoroughly before you crack them or they will taste like lime.

FYI: a gallon size container will store about 40 eggs. Lime is also known as calcium hydroxide. You can buy it in 50 pound bags in the masonry section of the hardware store, or in 1 pound bags in the canning section of the grocery store....often labeled as "pickling lime”. Thank you Jess Jassop

Sugar baby came to us with a few ‘problems’

1. She wouldn’t load. I mean it took the owner a whole afternoon trying to load her one day, then the day that she came it took 3 of us to load her and it took almost 2 hours

2. She wasn’t broke, only sat on

3. Didn’t know personal space and was fairly pushy

4. Didn’t know how to lunge or move her feet properly

I’m happy to say after just getting her here on Sunday we’ve came along way!

- Today we worked on loading since I wasn’t 100% sure on what the rain was going to do. After about 15 minutes she self loads! This wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t do the ground work earlier this week.

-We’re lunging both ways successfully and respectfully

- Were able to walk, and trot, a circle both ways with a decent woah and backing up along with ground manners improving daily

This mare is such a sweetie. It’s hard to do anything in 5 days but we’re making the most of it!

Sugar is here for 5 days… she’s a sweet girl, let’s see what we can do 😉

Hi everyone, I have finally settled on a name for our farm. This is where I will be posting all of our updates, upgrades, things for sale (Eggs etc.)

A little bit about our funny farm. We bought this small 6 acre farm in the tiny town of Walford. When we got here lots of work needed (still needs) to be done for us to make it a farm. Last year with myself being pregnant and a lot to do we got what we could get done to make it 'livable' for ourselves. Completing fencing for the horses, renovations to an old shed to make it a small barn, cutting firewood for the winter, creating the nursery are majority of last years projects. We have quite a bit of work to do this year and I look forward to everyone following along with us!
