📢 Urgent Announcement: Dogs Not Evacuated
Dear Eastmain Community,
We want to provide you with an important update regarding the evacuation of our beloved dogs. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to evacuate the dogs as originally planned. We understand your concerns and want to assure you that we are fully committed to their safety and well-being.
As we were at the airport, ready to be flown out with the military Chinook helicopters, an urgent call came in from Wemindji, requiring immediate evacuation. The helicopters were redirected to Wemindji to assist with their pressing needs. It was a critical situation that required swift action and prioritization.
Furthermore, the unpredictable weather conditions, including the heavy rain that has been forecasted, played a significant role in our decision to stay behind. We made the difficult choice to put our own lives on the line by refusing to evacuate ourselves, as we are determined to help the animals in need during this crisis.
We want to emphasize that our commitment to animal rescue remains unwavering. Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to ensure the safety, well-being, and rescue of the dogs affected by the forest fire. We are exploring all available options and collaborating with various organizations to secure their evacuation as soon as possible. However, due to unresponsive airlines willing to provide an aircraft for this sort of operation, we cannot guarantee the pets to be flown out.
We understand the worry and anxiety this may cause, and we sincerely apologize for any distress caused by the change in plans. Please know that we are doing everything within our power to rectify the situation and reunite the dogs with their owners. We are keeping them safe until then.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your understanding, patience, and support during these challenging times. Together, we will overcome this crisis and emerge stronger than ever.
Please share this update widely, so that all pet owners and concerned community members are aware of our continued efforts. If you have any questions or need further information, please reach out to our animal control team or if you know of any organization that may be willing to help us in these emergency efforts please give us a call. 438-357-9000.
Thank you for standing with us in our mission to ensure the safety and well-being of our beloved animals. We will keep you informed of any further developments.
