This week we unexpectedly had to say goodbye to one of my first house call patients.

Charlie was a beautiful girl who was well loved by all of her family. She had an amazing life in the country, running through fields, riding tractors , herding cattle, guarding chickens and sleeping in her favourite spot by the warm woodstove.

We will all miss you dearly Charlie. Thank you for allowing me to care for you through your entire life.
You have your wings now sweet girl. 🐾💕

Today, we remember the brave souls of 9/11, including the incredible rescue dogs who worked alongside first responders.

These brave animals worked tirelessly alongside rescue teams, helping to search for survivors and providing comfort to those in need.

Their contributions deserve to be remembered, not just for what they did in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, but for the lasting impact they’ve had on the world of working dogs.

First case of rabies in a human confirmed in Ontario in almost 60 years from exposure to an infected bat.

A resident of Brantford-Brant is currently hospitalized with rabies. The health unit says it's the first case in Brantford-Brant ever and the first in Ontario since 1967.

In loving memory of Moby.
I share the beautiful words written by his beloved family.

Moby ~ June 30, 2011 - January 17, 2024

His paw prints are still on the snow outside,
and his nose prints are still on the door.
His fur still clings to the places he lay,
but his toys are untouched on the floor.

His collar lies empty, his dish upside down,
his bark doesn't ring in the hall.
His footsteps don't follow behind me upstairs,
and no Moby comes when I call.

His soft, brown eyes that watched me,
his silken ears I kissed.
His sweet, warm head upon my lap
Does he know how much he's missed?

Sammy and Lucy still wash in the sun,
Lily is loving and near.
Ollie and Clark sing their guinea pig songs,
but the house knows that he isn't here.

For twelve and a half years his beautiful soul
nourished our hearts like the sun.
From the day that he entered our lives we all knew
that a beautiful love had begun.

His energy so filled with life, love and joy,
his thrill in the smallest delight.
He made his connections with no other aim
than to comfort and make it all right.

I have no doubt he runs up in heaven, God plays with him while we're apart.
I've no doubt he'll be there to greet me one day...
But... for now...

There's a Moby-shaped hole in my heart.
