Hey friends. Tomorrow is another New Moon Celebration. Do you want to visit?

My animals and I love having friends over, so we're trying out our "hosting" skills with these New Moon days. If you'd like more information consider joining my discord. I also did some videos last month's New Moon, so check those out on YouTube.

If you want to join us, the remaining New Moons of 2022 are on:
November 23 - TOMORROW
December 23

After December I will decide if I'll keep doing more into 2023.

You'll have to reach out to me for the address, and please let me know if you'll be coming by and if you have any food concerns. In general I provide some type of food and drinks (cheese & hummus this time, maybe some ice tea), but everyone is welcome to bring their own food/drinks.

Finally, if you can't make it in person I'll do at least one livestream during the event. At midnight I also try to spread some of the positive energy out into the universe with a basic candle ceremony. If you or anyone you know could use some positive energy sent your way, let me know.

Two upcoming in-person days at ME:
Saturday Nov 19 is a leaf day. If you want to help out lmk. We're changing the skinks from shavings to leaves and taking the opportunity to do health checks on each animal. Helpers can do cleaning, wrangle the skinks, take notes, or just provide hype and entertainment. Basically many hands makes light work of a large task. I like to bribe helpers with some sort of food too.
And
Wednesday, Nov 23 is a New Moon Celebration. This is a day to visit, meet the skinks, chat with friends, etc. I did a livestream last time, it was fun, so I'm doing it again. I don't know what to do about food for these events now that the BBQ is put away. And again I'm going to light a candle at midnight and send some good vibes out into the universe. If you know someone who could use some good vibes, let me know, or join me and send some yourself :)

Friends, I know not all of you are from Canada so let me share a bit about a special Canadian day each year: Remembrance Day.

Celebrated each year on 11-11 (tomorrow) marks a day for Canadians to pay our respects to veterans, particularly military veterans, who've fought and died in Canada's wars.

Many businesses and stores close for at least the morning, and there are often ceremonies held where wreaths are laid. At some ceremonies veterans or active service members will parade - march in formation. Often a trumpet will be played, sometimes entire marching bands will play.

At 11am a moment of silence is observed - the entire country just stops for a moment, goes quiet, and we think about what the words "Remembrance Day" mean to each of us. And then the moment passes, the trumpet is played, and the country starts moving again.

And to me the most memorable and poignant parts of the day - the poppies and the poem. Perhaps it was because I recited In Flanders Fields for so many years as a cadet (I'm good at public speaking), but the poem is burned into my brain, and with it a love of the poppy.

In the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day poppy pins are sold throughout Canada, usually with the proceeds going to a veterans assistance fund. By November 11 nearly everyone in Canada is wearing a poppy, and throughout the ceremonies there is a consistent poppy on each chest. It is a beautiful sight to behold during that moment of silence.

After the ceremonies, many poppies are discarded or lost. That feels very poignant too to be honest.

Every Canadian seems to observe the day in their own way, and some don't observe it at all. But if you see this, take a moment to think of any veterans or service members who gave or risked their lives in war. Or find a ceremony to attend - there are virtual ones too.

We will remember.

I'm up to 16 bags of leaves! Thank you to everyone who helped or offered to help collect leaves. Next year I'll plan things out a bit more, and hopefully be in better shape myself :)

Next step in my leafy plan is actually cleaning out the old shavings and replacing them with leaves. Wee.

Ok. Last minute I know, but tomorrow I am celebrating the New Moon. I am inviting my friends (probably you if you're reading this) to visit my home, meet my animals, have a smokey, and share in some positive vibes.

If you are interested in visiting tomorrow please message me. I have some hot dogs and cheddar bacon smokies I'll BBQ around 5pm. If you don't like smokies feel free to bring a food/drink you do like. If you want to hold an animal I recommend long sleeves (thick long sleeves if you want to risk holding a monkey tail skink). I also recommend layers - my basement is often really warm even if I open the windows.

At 6:45 (sunset is at 6:50) I will be hosting a livestream on YouTube. I will talk a bit about what I'm hoping to accomplish over the next few years, and maybe light a candle. I'll answer any questions, show off the animals a bit, etc. Anyone who is visiting at that time is welcome to join me (or not) in the livestream.

The New Moon is celebrated in many cultures, faiths, etc. and is apparently a good time to make new friends, start new projects, set positive intentions, and just celebrate together.

Umm. Smoking (incl cannabis) must be done outside. Kids are welcome but I'd say the event is rated like PG13 because there could be smoking/alcohol/drugs.

My goal is to start hosting some events monthly to give people more chances to interact with the amazing pets I'm lucky to own. I want to tell people about all the amazing things that have happened and are happening at Mel's Exotics. And really I just want to see my friends, celebrate the day/month/year/etc, and have fun. I hope you'll consider joining me, if not this time then maybe next New Moon :)

So I don't know if I really said it here, but my hope with the BMAC Memberships is to send a merchandise item (or items) to members each month. The goal would be to create a fun monthly subscription box of sorts. I don't want to paywall any of my "creator content" but I do really want to find a sustainable way for "Mel's Exotics" to run without accruing more debt. I can only sell so many animals, and let's be honest not everyone wants or needs another skink right now. Current merchandise items include stickers, keychains, rings, etc. Future items may include calendars, replica skulls, pet toys, etc.
