We have some big news at Max K9 Training!

By the end of this year, we will be starting a new chapter in Southern Ontario.

I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journey over the past 18 years. Whether you attended a puppy social, group training, individual training, pack walk, virtual training session, or board and train stay, your support has been invaluable. Friends, family, clients, and future clients have all played a crucial role in the success of my business here in Nova Scotia. Every tag, share, mention, or recommendation has kept us going, and for that, I am truly thankful.

As we transition to Ontario, I am excited to continue offering the same services as we did here in Nova Scotia, including virtual training sessions and 21-day board and train programs.

I’ll be starting fresh, so word of mouth or a share would be greatly appreciated!

Giveaway!
If you know anyone in Ontario who is in need of dog training, please like & share this post. You will have a chance to win a $200 Amazon gift card and also give them the opportunity to receive $200 off a board and train program. Just make sure they mention your name!
The draw will take place at the end of November.

Much Love ❤️

LT.

It's been HARD 😢
Having to part ways with dogs that have been with us since the start, one's we fell in love with, loved like our own, built relationships with, spent so much time with, were excited to see every week - all because the daycare environment was just not for them anymore.

As an owner, it's easy to feel sad if this happens BUT I'm here to tell you that it's more normal than not.

So, what is a DOG SOCIAL dog?
- typical for puppies to begin their socialization here
- loves all dogs and their company and not particular who with

This is very uncommon for adults dogs to remain in this category.

You see.. 40% of dogs make up the DOG TOLERANT category also 40% make up the DOG SELECTIVE category (I'll talk about this later)

Over time, dogs may mesh better with certain dogs and only tolerate some. If the environment is good, then it may be fine.

So, what do we do about this?
- We aim to keep the same groups on each day. We do have some who can more freely but it does not upset any of the personalities.
- With our smaller groups, we can more easily manage
- We ask pup parents to move to different days and try with a different group that we think will be better matches personality wise.
- We are particular about who we add to some groups to keep good energy and happy pups

However sometimes your dog may just be happiest with a few friends and some nice walks and solo plays.

After all, we as people don't like EVERY person we see.. right 😉😅

Almost 14 years of loving you.

You came to me as a 7 month old insecure & reactive dog.
I was bound, and determined, to heal you with love. Little did I know when I was starting my dog training career that love alone, does not cure behaviors.
I’ll call you my mistake dog. I tried to kill you with kindness versus being a guardian.
Once I started my dog psychology when you were about 4 years, I realized all the mistakes I was making. Putting my newfound knowledge into works, you soon started to thrive.
I gave you purpose, helping me with classes, being a farm dog, scent detection & antler shed hunting.
You continued to prosper until arthritis, got a hold of your back end at 11 years.
You never missed our daily walks up until that point. You were my leading lady, following me while I rode horses or leading a pack of dogs.
Thank you for being neutral and a mother hen, while hundreds of dogs came through our household. You never shown a mean bone towards any of them, even when puppies were all up in your face. Thank you thank you for being you.

Now go find Max and have a little fight over a chuck-it ball and have a snuggle with Gator.
Let them know I miss them both

I would like to thank Greenwood Animal Hospital for their ongoing care for Mika, throughout her 14 years. Especially Dr. Amy, we are very lucky to have her within the valley.

UPCOMING CLASS NEXT WEEKEND IN COLDBROOK, NS!

K9 CPR & Emergency First Aid, Full-Day Course
Coldbrook, NS
February 24th, 2024
Instructor: Tracey Buchanan
Maritime Dog First Aid and Hiking Safety

The most comprehensive course available! You will learn from the top canine first aid instructors in North America:

We teach prevention - like knowing which household plants are toxic to your dog and what people medicines they can NEVER have. We cover basic nutrition, exercise and dental care needs, we teach you about digestive emergencies and how to deal with them,

You get to practice making your own Elizabethan collar and emergency muzzle (even the most docile dogs can act aggressively when they're injured or scared).

We teach you how to handle the immediate response incidents, like your dogs heart stops, they have something lodged in their throat and can’t breathe, they've gotten into poison, or have had a terrible accident and needs to be stabilized for safe transport to the Vet.

You will learn and practice a number of different hands-on scenarios - so when an emergency happens muscle memory kicks in and you’ll be able to help your dog in their moment of need.

We do everything with your safety in mind, and you'll take home a 130 page health and first aid quick reference manual.

You earn your paper certificate as well as your wallet CPR & vitals card.

This isn’t a normal post, but it’s an important one.
This is something that people need to be reminded of year-round. However, with the holiday season upon us and likely lots of puppies/dogs finding new families, maybe this reminder will help set those new additions up for better success.
Please, PLEASE stop letting dogs/puppies off-leash if you cannot call them off of distractions.
This sets both parties up for failure, and it can be so dangerous.
Allowing your dog/puppy to run up to an unfamiliar dog is both rude and dangerous, and sets the tone for future situations.
“It’s ok they’re friendly” isn’t an ok excuse.

The dog that your dog is approaching may be reactive, insecure, dog-selective, in training, etc.
It’s unfair and unrealistic to expect every dog that is out for a walk to be friendly with everyone and every dog.
Please try to be proactive and considerate with your dog when outside, and remember it’s for the safety of both your dog and others.
I know one guy that will be very grateful 🫶🏻😉
