We are thrilled to welcome Coco (MapleMyst's Peppermint and Hot Cocoa) to the MapleMyst team! Coco is from our Kelkka and Bandit litter.

She will live with co-owners Catherine and Carmen, and spend time with us at conformation and performance events.

A huge thank you to Jackie and Cheryl (Midnight Island) for allowing Bandit to sire Kelkka's first brood, and to Pattie (PineSky) for co-breeding this litter.

Aila’s 3 little pepperitos, 2 boys and 1 girl, arrived safely yesterday!

While it was immediately tempting to go with a cookies and cream theme, we stuck to our original plan to go with something that is more in keeping with Momma Aila’s character.

We are pleased to announce that Aila is expecting her first litter, due in early December! This litter has been in the planning stages for a very long time and we are excited to welcome the little red-hot chile pepperlings home in time for the holidays.

We are pleased to share our first photos of Kelkka and Bandit's little ones, who arrived on November 8! The happy parents welcomed 3 boys and 3 girls, 2 brown, 2 black&tan, and 2 cream pups! Mom and babies are doing well!

Special Thanks to Pattie (PineSky) and her family for the excellent care they are providing to Kelkka and the kids, and to Jackie Barbour and Cheryl Minnier for allowing Bandit to sire this litter.

We are thrilled to announce that Kelkka and Bandit are expecting pups in early November.

Kelkka is MBIS MBISS CAN GCHG AM CH MapleMyst's Sledding Under A Pine Sky, bred by MapleMyst and co-owned by Manon Brisebois and Pattie Page.

Bandit is MBIS MRBIS MNBISS MBISS GCHG Lapinkaunis I Want It All, BCAT, owned by Jackie Barbour of Midnight Island Finnish Lapphunds and Cheryl Minnier.

We would like to thank Jackie and Cheryl for letting Bandit sire Kelkka's first litter. This litter is co-bred by MapleMyst and will be whelped by Pattie Page of Pinesky Kennels.

Our pups are now 7 weeks old and slowly we are starting to get them ready for their next great adventure. This week we honor Mari's namesake.

You may not know about the movie, “Mari and Her Three Puppies,” which recounts the true story about a Shiba Inu and her loyalty to her human family and her new born pups. The true story of Mari begins with one of the deadliest tremors to hit Japan in 2004. The three strongest quakes happened in just under 40 minutes. An elderly man who was trapped beneath a cabinet, was cared for and saved by his Shiba Inu, Mari, who also cared for her three puppies at the same time. Eventually, the man was able to get out from under the rubble and was safely evacuated by helicopter but Mari and her puppies could not accompany her owner, as rescuers placed a priority on saving humans first. However, the owners did return after two weeks and found a still-alive Mari, albeit gaunt, taking care of her well-fed and plump pups.

And then there is of course, the story of the "other" Mari, the one who has mastered the art of trolling her owner on camera on Youtube. We will never tell which one inspired us, but the background may give it away!

Our pups are 6 weeks old! This week as we celebrate our own precious crew, we also underline the heroics of Balto's namesake.

Balto (1919 – 1933) was an Alaskan husky and sled dog. He achieved fame when he led a team of sled dogs driven on the final leg of the 1925 serum run to Nome, in which diphtheria antitoxin was transported from Anchorage, Alaska, to Nenana, Alaska, by train and then to Nome by dog sled to combat an outbreak of the disease, particularly affecting children in the Nome area.

In his later years, Balto enjoyed his retirement until his death at the age of 14. Following his death, an exhibit was built and remains at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Our pups will be turning 5 this week, and this week, we honor a beloved Seattle-area dog known for riding the bus around the city by herself in order to get to the dog park. Eclipse, a black Labrador, became famous around the world for her solo trips on public transport. The strange phenomenon began in 2015 when her owner, Jeff Young failed to notice in time that Eclipse had climbed onto a bus by herself. The bus then drove off but Eclipse exited at the correct stop and was later found happily playing at her usual dog park. She then made regular solo trips to the park, usually two to three times per week. She was a smart, friendly and resourceful dog, who became well-known among bus riders who enjoyed petting her on their commute.

Eclipse also seemed to be a logical name, given the recent total solar eclipse.

Our pups are now 2+ weeks old ! This week's photo theme is based on Gobi's namesake.

If you have not read the book Finding Gobi, it is an inspirational true story about a seasoned ultramarathon runner who crosses paths with a stray dog while competing in a 155-mile race through the Gobi Desert in China. The lovable pup, who would later earn the name Gobi, followed the runne over the Tian Shan Mountains and across massive sand dunes, keeping pace with him for 77 miles. After leaving China, the marathon runner faces countless obstacles, when he decides to bring Gobi home.

Our pups are now 1.5 weeks old, and closing in on 2 lbs! All are doing very well!

This week's puppy spam pays homage to Laika's namesake, with a space-themed background. Laika was a Soviet space dog and one of the first animals in space. She flew aboard the Sputnik 2 spacecraft, launched into orbit in November 1957.

And... after an afternoon of puppy wrangling and taking 100 photos to get 8 good ones, we are ready to post our first photos of the little lumps of coal!

Each of your weekly posts will include the tale of a canine hero whose story is behind the name of one of our pups. This week, our background features the Shibayu Train Station in Japan, where Hachiko waited loyally for his owner to return from work.

The MapleMyst hometown team is cheering for Kelkka who is enjoying the fun in the sun in Orlando this week Kelkka made her American debut with a Best of Opposite and Best of Winners yesterday and today.

Kelkka is GChB MapleMyst's Sledding under a Pine Sky, bred by me and co-owned by Pattie Page and I. Kelkka is being expertly handled (as always) by Chelby Marling and Team Ace. Thank you Pattie and Chelby for getting Kelkka out there.
