It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Sable who is now known as Luci.

" We feel extremely lucky to have adopted Luci, previously called Sable, as she is the sweetest dog and our personalities are such a good fit. She has been well behaved from the beginning and hardly barks. The adoption process was easy and thorough. As we were coming from out of town, we were worried about bringing her home, but she was a doll for the whole eight hour drive. She was a little reserved at the start, but her personality started showing once she settled in and continues to do so as she becomes more confident. Now after 3 months, Luci knows this is her home and that we are her people. She's learned that she doesn't need to get stressed when we leave because we will always be back and she is so excited to see us when we get home. She doesn't really play with toys, but loves to search for treats and get scratches. She enjoys her twice daily walks where she sniffs to her hearts content. She has made several dog friends and is always happy to see the neighbor dog. Meeting other dogs and attending some training has made her a little less reactive around strange dogs and she loves to meet new people.
We are so grateful to have been able to adopt Lucy from Fur-Ever Homes Rescue and to bring her into our home where I hope we will bring each other joy for a long, long time."

Halloween can be fun for our pets but take some important steps to ensure they are safe and protected.

🤡 Supervise your pets while in costumes
- Costumes are adorable and the best part of the halloween season. Dressing your pets does come with risks you should be aware of. Make sure your pet's costume doesn't restrict their movement or cause them distress. Never leave your pet alone in their costume as they could become tangled in it or even chew or eat pieces of the outfit.

🍬 Keep treats out of reach
- You are probably aware that chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs but there are other sweets that pose a threat to your pets. Xylitol is a popular sugar substitute used in candies and gums, and it is highly toxic to pets. Even those treats that don't contain cocoa or xylitol can be harmful for your pets if they consume enough. Keep candy bowls and trick-or-treat bags out of paw's reach. If your pet manages to sn**ch some sugary loot, call your vet immediately.

🐈 Protect your Black cat
As an iconic symbol of Halloween, black cats have evoked a great deal of superstition for centuries. Unfortunately, even today, black cats are at risk at halloween from unsavory individuals. Keep your black cat indoors. Have them microchipped / make sure your information connected to their microchip is updated. If your cat must go out, improve their visibility to cars with a reflective collar.

😼 Confine your Pet to a safe room
- With the continuous ringing of the doorbell and shrieks of glee from trick-or-treaters, your cat or dog can become overstimulated. Place them in a quiet room for the evening. Draw the shades, put on some relaxing music, or turn on the tv to drown out the background noise. A favorite toy or interactive treat dispenser can help to distract them from the commotion outside.

💡 Ensure cats and dogs have identification.
- With doors swinging open for cute witches and superheros, the constant ringing of the doorbell, and all the unusual and sometimes spooky costumes that might make even the most social pet a little nervous, it is the perfect storm for our fur babies to make an unexpected dash for freedom. An up-to-date ID tag and a microchip could be the lifesave that reunites you with your pet should they get lost.

Halloween can and should be a happy holiday for all members of your family. By planning ahead and taking simple safety measures, you can protect your pets from whatever tricks or treats come your way.

Today we have a story about saving not just one life but five!

Meet Rizzo this sweet girl was set to be euthanized, we were able to give her a second chance at life. Rizzo was pregnant with 4 little babies who never would have been given life if our paths had not crossed their moms. We are so happy that we could save Rizzo, and she could give birth to 4 healthy babies in a warm, safe and loving environment.

Mom and babies will be available for adoption after the 8 week mark, keep watching here and we will let you know as soon as they are ready.

🥰 Welcome to Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Seamus who was previously known as Jackson. 🥰

"We renamed Jackson to Seamus as his brother is called Paddy and we are Irish. He settled really well and is the best buddy to Paddy. We did have to refresh on housetraining at the start but overall he is just a loveable, calm, social, snuggly boy. The best addition to our family.
Adoption was easy. This is our third adoption from Fur-Ever Homes. Each have been so thorough but seamless for us. We really appreciate everything the rescue does and for helping us find 3 perfect pups." 🍀

Soot is a 9 month old malePug / Chihuahua mix. Soot is a wonderful little puppy with the cutest little underbite! He loves people and always wants to be near them. 🥳 It's Fido Friday!! Today we are getting an update on Leo. 🤩

"Leo has fit into our family perfectly and we cannot imagine life without him. He has the funniest little smile and is a nonstop bundle of energy! He likes to spend his days playing with his 3 siblings and chasing bugs in the backyard. Eventually, when he is tired from his busy day, he is the sweetest little guy and gives us big hugs before cuddling in next to us to sleep. He has warmed up to everyone in the family through the yummy treats that they have shared with him.
We have had a very tough time in the past couple months with family bereavements and Leo has been a wonderful distraction and source of entertainment. We are so thankful to have him in our lives!"

Solar has been with us since November 2022 and he’s ready for adoption!

Solar is a male Husky/Shepherd mix.

He has patiently waited and watched as his three siblings have been adopted and moved into their fur-ever homes, but his turn hasn’t come yet. Solar is an extremely adventurous boy who adores exploring. One of his favourite activities includes roaming around the backyard either with company or all on his own. Solar loves playing with other pups too! Solar would love a kind and patient family to help him build confidence and show him how truly magnificent he is. Solar is truly a miracle puppy as he championed parvovirus as a little pup.

Today is Fido Friday and we are getting an update on Ren! 😍

"We kept his name as Ren. He also goes by the names barrel (due to his rotund body), Damian (Cos he can be a little devil) and little S.. (that one speaks for itsel. LOL.
It has been an up and down journey so far, but we have all fallen in love with him and live with his foibles. Ren is definitely settling in more and more each day. He loves to play with his toys and chase after his stuffy & kill it when he catches it. He loves rubs and lying on a human while he chills. He can't wait to go on a walk and sniff literally every 5 yards. He loves the trails around our house as they have lots of great smells. We have deer that come to our yard and he is quite interested to see them. He doesn't bark at them, just wants to sniff them and see what they are doing. Oh... and he loves a cup of tea. Ren pulls on his lead somewhat. We connected with a dog trainer and are working on this.
When he came to us he would pace quite a bit and also had issues with marking on the house. We have been working on both of these. He was on medication for anxiety but it didn't seem to be doing a lot so he stopped taking it. The marking still happens on occasion but he has wiggled his way into our hearts and there is no way he is going anywhere... the couch was old anyway. (not really but it's just a couch!!)
The adoption process was fine. It was great to meet Ren in his foster home and get a feel for him. His foster was amazing and clearly loved him to bits."

Today we are featuring Priya and Ruby

Priya
Is a 3 year old female German short-hair pointer mix who has boundless energy and a heart full of love. If you’re an adventure enthusiast, Pria is your perfect hiking buddy, she loves a rousing game of fetch at the park, where she can show off her impressive retrieving skills!

Priya is a sweet soul who adores kids and would be happy in a home with or without children of all ages. While she can be a bit nervous around new faces and furry friends, slow and gentle introductions help her warm up and reveal her loving nature. Patience and understanding go a long way in winning her heart.

This clever girl is both house and crate trained, though she’ll gladly trade her crate for a cozy spot on the couch any day. Priya’s ideal home is one where she can enjoy plenty of playtime, cuddles, and, of course, fetch! She is very quiet when she is inside and would do great in a condo as much as a house.

Ruby
Is a 4.5 year old female German Shorthaired pointer mix. She is a very sweet, happy, and energetic dog. She is fully house trained and will sleep in her own bed all night. Ruby does well if she has time, especially the morning, to run and fetch. She is a trained hunting dog and has experience hunting. Ruby knows sit, lay down, paw, and touch. She is somewhat treat motivated and willing to learn new skills. Ruby easily develops bonds with her people and likes being close or in the same room as them. She doesn’t beg for food. In the evening Ruby can get a burst of the zoomies and will roll on the floor and be silly, then settles right away for sleep.

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Francine who is now known as Fern.

"We renamed Francine to Fern and more often than not, end up calling her Fernie, Fernie-girl, or Ferninator!
She's settled in pretty well. We still deal with the occasional separation anxiety, but that's continuing to tone down as time goes on and she gets used to our routines. We've also noticed that she is less anxious if we make sure to walk her before we leave for an extended period of time, and make sure not to repeatedly leave and come back in a day. Our neighborhood has an off-leash within walking distance, which is where she can truly let loose and do laps around us. She makes sure to take the tightest turns around our ankles as she can!
Lately we've discovered that she is scared of thunderstorms, so we got her a weighted calming jacket, a bed for our bedroom closet, and some great calming treats if needed. We've also discovered her love of chewing things so we've made sure to provide her with a variety of chew toys. One of our favourite things about her is that she will often take turns playing with us, making sure we are both included - it's adorable!
My fiance and I absolutely love her and have created a shared album that syncs from our phones just for photos and videos of Fern. It currently numbers over 400 photos! I have included a few of our favourites here. We would absolutely love to share the update on our lovely little weirdo."

😼 It's a special Fido Friday this week.... We are getting an update today on George, an adopted kitty now known as Butters. 😽

"Things have been going fantastically well with George since his adoption. We changed his name to Butters because we loved his foster brother's name so much and sadly couldn't take both cats with us. He's now got a dog big sister, Loki, and a chubby cat brother named Dwight.

Butters loves to wrestle with his brother but when it's time for relaxing, they lay together and nap. Butters loves sleeping on his back with his tummy exposed for gentle pets. The three have been caught catching weekend afternoon naps together on the couch. Mom doesn't fit in her usual spot but that's ok.

Butters loves to join his siblings outside in the yard when it's nice out and perches high in his shared Catio so he and Dwight can watch birds.

He loves morning pets and is quick to purr in delight when his famliy is together and he's being carried around to get the best observation spot. We love him so much and call him baby because he's the smallest, sweetest, most cuddly addition to the new family!

Today we are featuring our wonderful Cosmo who has waited so patiently for his Fur-Ever Home Cosmo is a 1.5 year old male Miniature Pincher He is a wonderful dog who has really come out of his shell. He was not properly socialized as a pup but this hasn’t stopped him. He is super curious and extremely smart. He loves to play with toys and throw them up in the air in the backyard. He loves fresh snow and is the bounciest boy you will ever see. Cosmo loves to wrestle with the resident dogs and looks to them for assurance. He is fully crate trained and potty trained. He knows tons of tricks including hi-five, spin, heel, weaving through our legs and more. An ideal home will enjoy training and be willing to continue making activities to increase his confidence. We have two wonderful girls to feature today Sofi and Ella They are ready for adoption! Sofi is a 1 year old female Rat terrier mix. Ella is a 5 year old female Lab mix � Sofi is incredibly loving and cuddly, she prefers to be with her humans all the time, so less time spent alone would be best for her. Every Animal Deserves a Second Chance....

Fur-ever Homes Rescue has a mission to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home displaced animals. Our efforts are not only local to Canada but reach as far as Korea, Mexico and the United States where many animals have little to no chance of survival.

Our adoption process is structured to carefully select loving homes for each animal so they will receive a lifetime of care and love.

Our spay/neuter initiative, education programs, pet food assistance program and guidelines for responsible pet ownership will reduce the number of animals left in shelters in the future. We work with a team of trainers, Veterinarians and animal care specialists to assure all of our animals receive the care needed.
