****ADOPTED****
Meet, Rory
Rory is a 1-2 year old Golden Retriever. She was a surrender from a kennel getting out of breeding and when she arrived at her foster home she was very unsure of the world around her.
Despite Rory’s limited exposure to the world, she has blossomed into a sweet and playful girl in the short time she has been with her foster family. Although she can still be timid when meeting new people or visiting new places, she warms up very quickly and loves everyone she meets.
When Rory arrived at her foster home, she was very underweight, and had a poor hair coat. She has gained 5lbs in 3 weeks and her golden locks get thicker and softer by the day.
Rory currently lives with her 3 canine foster siblings and loves to run and play with them all. She would probably get along with any dog she met, no matter what the size, as long as they didn’t mind her lack of personal space. She loves to play with toys, but will also destroy them if given the chance so she should be monitored closely. She has not met any cats up close and personal so she may do okay with a dog savvy cat but has a very high prey drive when it comes to bunnies and squirrels!
Rory is startled by loud noises and does not have good recall yet, so a fenced yard would be ideal. She walks pretty well on leash with a gentle leader, but is still getting the hang of it. She is crated during the day when left home alone to keep her out of trouble and sleeps soundly in her crate overnight. She often will put herself to bed if she is feeling overwhelmed or needing a moment to herself.
In true retriever fashion, she will often be found walking around the house with someone’s shoe in her mouth (a habit her foster family is trying to kick).
She can be very picky when it comes to food and treats but is eating a Lamb based kibble right now and enjoys it very much. She eats her meals in her crate where she is not as easily distracted. She loves beef liver and peanut butter.
Unfortunately her lack of interest in food is making training just a little bit challenging! She has learned sit and is working on some other commands now too! She is very good for baths, lets her foster mom trim her toenails, clean her ears and brush her hair and teeth.
Rory is working on being comfortable in the car, she will settle in her crate now for car rides, but is still scared to get in the car and has to be lifted. She would probably prefer to not have to spend that much time in the car though.
She does not have many accidents in the house because she can hold it for a reasonable amount of time, but she is still learning how to let her foster family know that she has to use the bathroom.
She is a very active girl, she requires lots of exercise and mental stimulation to keep her out of trouble. She is not a couch potato!
In time she could probably be left home alone all day once she settles in, but for now she typically tolerates 4-5 hours in her crate during the day.
Rory has been spayed, vaccinated, 4DX tested and started on prevention. She has shown some itchiness and is currently on a trial of Apoquel which she may need seasonally or she may do best on a limited ingredient diet. This is something her new home will have to be comfortable working on to find what works best for Rory.
The ideal home 🏡 for Rory:
🐾 Other dogs - although she loves playing with her foster siblings, she loves her people too and would probably do just fine as the only dog.
🐾 Cats - ideally not as she’s not been tested but she might be OK with a dog savvy cat.
🐾 Kids - yes, but she is a bouncy girl and may accidentally knock them over if they are small!
🐾 Secure fenced yard is ideal!
