My outdoor aviary has survived another long, cold, Canadian winter. Time to get it ready for SPRING! Follow me as I get my aviary ready for birds.
- make sure wire is safe and fasteners are secure
- clean all debris and any dirty surfaces
- disinfect everything

Then the birds are out enjoying their aviary space!

It's aviary weather! Hooray!
Today I got the aviary ready for the birds, and both greys enjoyed some sunshine and 20C weather.

Every day I have people apologizing for not being the best bird person, not training every day, not giving the mythical "best" to their birds. I'm here to tell you that what you are doing is GOOD ENOUGH.

Are your birds happy and healthy? Great! We don't need to hold ourselves to the "perfect social media" standard. We all have low energy days, and as long as your birds have their basic needs met, you're fine.

I will not judge you. If you ask for help I will help you. We are all trying to do our best, learn more, do more. I will support you at whatever step of the journey you are on. We all have good days and bad days!

We had an amazing weekend at the Greater Edmonton Parrot Society (GEPS) - Chat Parrot Show!

We met so many wonderful people! We saw birds, talked about birds, and played with birds! We bought bird toys, bird art, and bird foods. Thank you for an incredible weekend! Our hearts are full ❤️

African Grey Parrots, illegally caught and destined for life in a cage, have been successfully reintroduced to the wild!

🌟 Exciting News Alert! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that our first parrot release of 2025 has been a resounding success! 🦜💚

On February 1st, we transferred 28 African grey parrots into our release aviary. Using our carefully planned soft-release method, we allowed them to acclimate to their new environment before opening the doors on February 15th. By the very next day, all 28 parrots took to the skies, ready to start their new lives! 🎉✨

These incredible birds, once victims of the illegal wildlife trade, now have a second chance in the wild. Did you know that African grey parrots are among the world's most trafficked birds? Their popularity in the pet trade has led to severe declines in their populations, making them an Endangered species. 🌍💔

But there’s more good news! We've got plenty of parrots still waiting to be released this year—after 102 were rescued in 2024! 🦜💪
