Enrichment is Your Secret Weapon!

Want to reduce screaming or chewing wood trim? It's not about punishment, it's about providing an alternative outlet. Enrichment = Effortless Training. When your bird is busy and mentally engaged with foraging or shredding toys, they aren't busy with problem behaviors! Focus on providing structured activity. Think: what do I WANT them to chew on?

We want to hear from you: What was the biggest roadblock or frustration in your last bird training attempt?

We've all been there, trying to teach our birds new behaviors, only to hit a wall. Maybe your bird just wasn't responding, or the instructions felt too complicated.

Share your experience in the comments below! We're here to listen and offer real solutions that make a difference for you and your bird.

Before Training, Build Trust!

You don't train a parrot; you build a relationship. True training begins with trust. Focus on rewarding your bird for calm, voluntary interaction, like walking towards you for a treat, eating comfortably near you, or accepting a favorite treat from your hand, before demanding any behaviors. A high Trust Bank Account makes every training session easier. Drop a treat in a dish and see how far you can build the trust!

Just got back from an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE weekend at the Canadian BehavioUr Eh! Conference 2025!
(scroll to see the cutest face at the conference)

What an experience! I spent the weekend surrounded by fellow passionate professionals, all dedicated to understanding and improving the lives of animals. This community truly fills my cup. The energy, the shared commitment, and the endless pursuit of knowledge are constantly inspiring.

It's truly special to see the latest science and research presented by brilliant, knowledgeable speakers. I was constantly taking notes and soaking it all in!

What stood out most is how much we have to learn from each other, regardless of the species we work with. Whether it's dogs, parrots, or even mini horses, the core principles of behaviour are universal. When we listen, we learn.

Huge thanks to the team at for organizing such an amazing, informative, and community-building event! I'm already looking forward to applying these new insights to help more of your feathered (and furry!) friends thrive.

Happy Halloween from Parrot SOS! 🎃 Our feathered friends (and carved pumpkins!) are ready for a night of spooky fun. This year, our "Parrot-o-lantern" is giving 'open beak and binocular vision' scary... There better not be a shortage of treats! 😉

And remember, while we enjoy our Halloween festivities, let's keep our parrots safe from anything that could spook them or be harmful. Our recent blog post gives you more tips!

We know we've been talking about this a lot, but that's because it's so important! Understanding avian first aid can be a lifesaver. We promise to get back to our regular training videos very soon, but we truly believe this event is essential for every bird owner.
