Birdvent Day 22!

Make a festive foraging tray for you parrot!
We sorted out some festive colours, and added them to the extra bowls for the big parrots, and a larger tray for the little guys; A sprinkle of treats and watch them go!

You can use old toy bits, beads, shredded paper, or whatever bits you have on hand. We enjoy making these red/green and blue/white for the holiday season!

Give it a try and let us know what your bird thinks!

Birdvent Day 21!
Spend some time with your bird! Just enjoy eachothers company!

Whether you are sitting together, doing some head scratches, watching them forage, or watching them do bird things, today is all about enjoying being with your bird.

How did you spend today enjoying your birds company?

Birdvent Day 20!
Donate some bird-safe cleaning products to your local rescue or shelter!

Rescues do a LOT of cleaning, and need help with making sure they provide the best environment for the birds waiting for a new home. We sent some cleaning supplies to Meika's Safehouse!

See you tomorrow for Day 21 of Birdvent!

Birdvent Day 19!
Send a smile to a bird person!

Today's about sharing something with your bird community! Share a cute picture, a meme, or even a selfie! We want to see the cuteness!

Thank you to Chicken thoughts for always making us smile!

Birdvent Day 18!
Sponsor a bird at a rescue or make a donation!

Did you know some birds are difficult to adopt, and some spend a long time in the rescue? By sponsoring a bird, you can help them have the best care!

We love sponsoring Zoey at Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary to make sure he had the best macaw toys every month! Thank you for letting us love him!

Guess who arrived?
Mini Max the Moluccan !

I love him almost as much as Max himself.

Birdvent Day 18!

Introduce a bird-loving kiddo to your birds! This one is open to kids of ALL ages. Spread the joy of your birds!

This one doubles as education, because we all know how challenging birds are some times. Help the kiddos learn about parrots, and their needs, while also sharing your love of parrots. Win-win!

Birdvent Day 16!
Leave a supportive comment on someone's training video.

It's scary to share your training videos on the internet! Share some positive feedback on a video, so we are encouraging everyone to continue their training! Keep up the good work!

No matter where you are in your training journey, it happens in small baby steps. Whether you are working on your bond, working on step up, or working on advanced skills, it's all to be celebrated today!

Birdvent Day 15!

Make an easy enrichment toy for your bird, and watch them enjoy it!

I could watch my birds opening these toys alllllll day. We use the skewer and some bird-safe materials like a paper cup, and tissue paper, and a single almond, to make fun and enriching (and easy!) toys!

What does your bird enjoy?

Birdvent day 14!
Make your partner/family/housemate breakfast to say THANK YOU!

We all know that life with birds is the BEST, and happily make any changes necessary for them to have a great life. Today is the day we say "Thank you" to our family and partner for all of their support.

Life with birds isn't always easy, and a little recognition goes a long way. THANK YOU to all the supportive partners, family, housemates and friends! You are part of this!

Birdvent Day 13!
Make a special bowl of chop for your bird!

How do you make your chopped up veggies? I do a big bowl and freeze it into smaller portions. Then I can take out one cube, defrost it, and add some fresh on top!

I aim for a healthy addition like chop to their daily diet of pelelts every day. How much chop do you feed? Our rule of thumb is 'a pile as big as the birds head'. You don't want to over-feed, or waste!

Share your favourite chop recipe in the comments, and we will add ours as well!

Birdvent Day 12!

Compliment a friend on something they have achieved with their bird!

I encourage you to encourage others! We are all working on different things, and it can sometimes feel lonely. Or maybe progress seems small. You are doing it! Your birds are doing it! Great work!

11/12/2024

Birdvent Day 11!

Spend 10 mins with your bird giving them head rubs!

Doing mutual preening is a fantastic bonding experience, if you bird likes them! Always ask and have your parrot willingly participate in a head scratch.

If your bird doesn't want or like head rubs, instead you can spend 10 mins together while they preen. Spending time together as a flock is a bonding experience!

Enjoy time with your bird

Birdvent Day 10!
Buy an extra bag of bird food, and donate it to a rescue!

If you're out buying more bird food, pick up an extra and done it to birds in need. Or check out their wish lists and get them something from there!

Can't spare the extra this season? No problem! Just share their wish list and help spread the word.

Happy Birdvent!

Want to see all of the Birdvent 2024 posts? Here they are all in one place! We will keep adding as we continue through this years Birdvent!

Birdvent Day 9!
Feed your bird their favourite treat, piece by piece!

This is a great bonding exercise! By feeding smaller pieces one at a time, your bird is learning that good things come from you. And it's a great first step towards more training sessions!

Extra bonus: if they like popcorn, hand out popcorn pieces! PARTY TIME!

08/12/2024

Birdvent Day 8!
Tag your favourite bird trainer in the comments. I'll go first. Add you faves and let's spread the love to all the parrot trainers!

Birdvent Day 7: Food Skewer!

Watch as I make an enrichment food skewer for my African Greys! And also a little something for the cockatiels.

Stainless Steel Skewers are very versatile, and can be a great way to introduce new foods for your bird. I'm expecting these skewers to be partly eaten and partly destroyed for fun! It all counts as enrichment!

Do you have a skewer? What do you put on it? We would love to see your food skewers for today's Birdvent!
