🚨 Teenage Puppy Syndrome is REAL! 🚨Ah, the puppy adolescent phase—when your sweet, obedient pup suddenly develops selective hearing, forgets every command they once knew, and starts questioning all of life’s rules (especially your rules). Welcome to ages 6-12 months, where your dog has officially entered their teenage rebellion phase. This is NOT the time to slack on training. In fact, it’s the perfect time to tighten up your rules and stay consistent. Just because your pup was listening before doesn’t mean they always will—especially if they realize they can push boundaries and get away with it.The most common mistake? Owners ease up too soon. Puppy is doing great, so you start getting lax… next thing you know, they’re blowing off recall, ignoring leash manners, and giving you the dog version of an eye roll.✔️ Stay firm but fair – Rules don’t change just because they’re feeling rebellious.✔️ Practice what you’ve taught – Consistency now prevents major setbacks later.✔️ Don’t take it personally – It’s not you, it’s their hormones.Need help navigating the teenage puppy struggle? We’ve got you covered. Impulse control isn’t just a fancy term—it’s a game-changer for you and your dog. Whether it’s staying calm while you sweep the floor or keeping cool when a drone flies by, impulse control is about teaching dogs how to think before they act.
Here are three reasons why it’s a must:
1️⃣ Safety First: A dog that can stay focused and controlled is less likely to bolt into danger or react unpredictably in new situations.
2️⃣ Peaceful Coexistence: Life gets easier when your dog knows how to wait patiently, whether at the door, around guests, or during your morning coffee run.
3️⃣ Mental Stimulation: Learning impulse control works your dog’s brain, keeping them sharp, happy, and fulfilled.
At AngelKerr Dog Training, we focus on positive reinforcement to build this crucial skill—because control doesn’t mean using aversives; it means creating trust and understanding.
Want to see how we do it? Check out our latest video! Or better yet, let us help your pup master the art of chill. 💼🐕

In our last post, we introduced Zoe and her journey overcoming canine floor sensitivity. Now, let’s dive into the tools that can help pups like Zoe feel confident on all surfaces! Here’s our breakdown of some great products for traction and paw protection:
1️⃣ RC Pets Pawks (Standard Grip):
Perfect for indoor use, these socks feature a simple paw print grip on the bottom. Be sure to get the right size, as larger socks can slip off. Not our top pick but effective for mild issues.
2️⃣ RC Pets Pawks (Wraparound Grip):
An upgraded version of the original Pawks with grip that wraps around the entire paw for better traction. Great for indoor use, but still just a sock material—avoid using them in rain or snow.
3️⃣ RC Pets Strider Boots:
A hiking/winter boot with a durable sole and Velcro straps to keep them in place. These are ideal for outdoor use, offering excellent grip and protection. Downsides? They’re sold in pairs, so you’ll need two for all four paws, and they may be too warm for indoor use.
4️⃣ PAWZ Rubber Boots:
These balloon-like disposable boots are a budget-friendly option, but not our favorite. They’re tough to put on, can rip easily if your dog’s nails aren’t trimmed, and aren’t environmentally friendly. Proceed with caution—especially for dogs with paw sensitivities.
5️⃣ Muttluks Winter Boots:
Heavy-duty and designed for subzero temps, these are fantastic for hikes or long winter walks. However, they’re too warm for indoor use or spring/summer outings.
When choosing grip socks or boots, it’s important to consider your dog’s comfort, the environment, and the specific needs you’re addressing. Zoe has been using these tools alongside desensitization and positive reinforcement, and she’s making amazing progress!
Stay tuned for more tips and tricks to keep your dog confident and happy!

Does Your Dog Fear Slippery Floors? Let’s Talk About Zoe. 🐾
Meet Zoe—a brave pup working through something called canine floor sensitivity. This happens when dogs struggle with slippery surfaces like tile, marble, or hardwood. Every slip triggers their natural opposition reflex (a fancy term for their instinct to resist when something feels off), which can lead to fear.
While this is often seen in small breeds, big dogs like Aussies and Labs aren’t immune either—especially when they’re young and learning about the world.
💡 What can you do about it?
• Early exposure is key! Introduce your puppy to different surfaces in a positive way.
• Resist the urge to avoid these surfaces when your pup seems scared—it’s important to help them build confidence gradually.
• Use treats, toys, and encouragement to make these surfaces feel like a safe, rewarding place.
• Try indoor grip socks or booties! These can give your dog extra traction and confidence while they learn to navigate tricky floors.
Remember, opposition reflex is something every dog is born with, but we can help them overcome it with patience and positivity.
Stay tuned to see how Zoe tackles her fear like a champ—and for Part 2, where I review different socks and booties to find the best options for your pup! 🧦🐶

🎄 Pebbles’ Holiday Adventure 🎄
The holiday season is full of sights, sounds, and surprises that can be overwhelming for nervous dogs like Pebbles, a rescue from India. It’s during times like these that confidence building plays a huge role in helping our pups navigate the world with less fear.
But let’s talk about the difference between confidence building and flooding.
Flooding is when a dog is exposed to something they’re afraid of all at once, without any preparation. For example, taking a dog terrified of people straight to a busy mall would be flooding, and it could do more harm than good.
Confidence building takes a kinder, more gradual approach. It involves desensitization and counter-conditioning—helping the dog feel safe and comfortable at their own pace.
Pebbles is a nervous dog, but thanks to consistent work, we’ve helped her build confidence around people and new environments. That’s why this trip to Fairview Mall, while a little scary at first, is something she can handle. You’ll even see her relax enough to lie down in front of Santa!
We’re so proud of her progress, and this is a great reminder to always prioritize your dog’s emotional well-being. Let’s make the holidays enjoyable for everyone—paws and all!

🌟 Part 2: Nugget Takes on Home Depot! 🌟
In this video, Nugget is showing off her pawsome skills during her first trip to Home Depot! 🛠️🐾 We focused on:
➡️ Heel Work: Nugget absolutely nailed the heel wait heel exercises, staying focused and confident while walking alongside her handler.
➡️ Recall Training: With so many distractions around, Nugget’s recall was on point—proving that practice and patience pay off!
➡️ Automatic Sit: Whether we were strolling through the lighting aisle or stopping mid-walk, Nugget crushed the automatic sit exercise like a pro. 💡
On top of that, we worked on desensitization to loud noises like banging wood, hammering, forklifts, and more. Nugget took it all in stride, building her confidence in busy environments. 🚧✨ We’re also working on challenges like stairs to help her feel even more at ease in everyday settings.
This girl is doing AMAZING, and we’re so proud of her progress! Keep following us to watch Nugget grow into her best self. 🐕💪

Nugget’s First Trip to Home Depot: A Socialization Success Story!
During her stay with us, we had the pleasure of taking Nugget, a curious and spirited pup, on her very first trip to Home Depot! Outings like this are an essential part of building a confident, well-rounded dog. With new sights, sounds, and smells at every corner, Home Depot is a perfect environment for socialization training.
Here’s what we worked on:
🔸 Exposure to New Stimuli: From forklifts to automatic doors, Nugget experienced it all! Controlled exposure helps dogs learn to remain calm in unfamiliar situations.
🔸 Focus and Obedience: Despite the distractions, Nugget nailed basic commands like “sit” and “leave it,” demonstrating the power of consistent training.
🔸 Confidence Building: Positive reinforcement (and a pocket full of treats) ensured that Nugget associated this adventure with fun and success.
Outings like these are vital for teaching dogs how to navigate the real world while staying relaxed and engaged with their handlers. Nugget was a rockstar —this little explorer handled everything with grace and curiosity.
If you’re working on socialization with your pup, remember to take it slow, use plenty of rewards, and always advocate for their comfort and safety. Want tips or need help creating a socialization plan? We’re here for you!
