Merry Christmas to ALL the barn staff out there taking care of business 365!!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻

12/21/2023

With another busy year coming to a close I want to thank everyone for a great 2023. Just a reminder that once the chaps come off Fri Dec 22 I will be off the 23-26 then in Florida the 27-31. Regular business will continue as usual Jan 02 2024. As of Fri Dec 22 2023 ANY outstanding accounts will be taken care of through collections and you will have to go to the feed store and buy your own tools and take matters into your own hands( it's a piece of cake, anyone can do it 😉) It has been a real pleasure to watch ALL my horses and riders continue to conquer there way through 2023 and I'm excited to watch the same in 2024. Merry Christmas and I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday 🍻

Shoeing the foot is one thing, shoeing the whole horse is another. Seeing how each horse works, grows foot, it's confirmation all need to be taken into account. This horse in particular has a boxy hind foot, grows high medially and stands with his hind limbs pointing outwards. When I first started shoeing him I had a size bigger shoe behind, extended the medial heel to bring the shoe back so the heels were even under the limb and typically fit him with more shoe to the lateral side then pictured here.... That looked really nice but by the third shoeing he wasn't happy when I would nail him, no brusing, still worked fine but the concussion going up his leg made him challenging to nail. Long story short I went with a size smaller shoe, didn't extend the medial heel, bevelled the ground surface of the medial branch to allow it to sink in the footing and worked the lateral heel outwards just enough to so when you look down from the hairline you can see steel. Not how I usually do it but the horse responded well to it, no more jerking when I nail him and is working great. Point of the story is listen to what the horse is telling you and give it what it needs. ( Yes the hind shoe pictured is stamped for the other foot cause I only had two of the same shoe so it is marked with a punch to show the outside branch ) On the front I have been using equilibrium air shoes and I like the biomechanics this shoe offers expecially for this horse.

Spring cleaning is complete and ready for summer. The mentors I have either worked under or with have always insisted on having an eye for detail. I am a firm believer in keeping my shoeing rig as clean and tidy as possible because weather it's the finished feet you put on the floor or the truck your working out of your name is on it and you should take pride in what you provide.

With 90% of my focus being on hunters, jumpers and dressage horses I do also enjoy shoeing gaited horses mainly American saddlebreds. These horses are more common in the states but I do have a large account in the GTA that travel throughout the United States competing at all the major shows. These horses are very athletic and when shoeing these long footed horses and adding the pad packages and weighted shoes attention to detail is a must.

Really happy with the results I'm seeing with these 3D pads. This application was used on an older hunter with sensitivity in the heels, requiring some cushion and support to unload the heel aswell as easing the breakover with a rolled toe

Western pleasure show horse that we've taken out of elevated aluminum bar shoes and replaced with this package. Dr O'Grady gave his consult on this case aswell and other then deciding to cut out the pad because the last time we loaded the frog she was lame leaving the cross Ties so we cut out the pad and on the low foot we went with a 3° to match up her knees and she has been sound and very willing to work since. We are also gaining ground on the low foot and will start reducing the wedge and continue backing the foot up to get her pastern axis where it needs to be during the next few cycles. Dr O'Grady's report is posted in the comments.

First shoeing on a chronic shoe puller. Was in a 2X8 shoe fit full to the toe, went with a classic roller and rolled the toe to increase his breakover and went with a size bigger shoe to help him from sinking in the footing. Just reset him and so far its working.

Horse with textbook mechanical founder, minimal sole depth. Dressed the toe back as much as possible to limit the lever on the toe and coffin bone. Used a roller shoe and spider pad to load and support the coffin bone and had to cut the toe of the pad out so no sole pressure at the toe wheres he's quite thin. He was hesitant to walk out of his stall but after applying this package he started to bare weight on thus foot and walked back to his stall much more comfortable. Will consult with the vet in 4 weeks and make more changes then.

The classic roller is a shoe i use on a lot of sport horses to ease breakover and make them as light on there front feet as possible. They also work very well on older arthritic horses which is what these went on. I like to roll the shoe aggressively from the quarter to the opposite quarter easing the strain in stiff joints during breakover.

Used a Z bar on a horse with a fractured lateral bar, loaded the frog to unload the heel. Was much more comfortable on the way back to her stall. Give her a couple cycles with this and see.
