The magic of a snuffle mat 😍🐾🐾🐾
Lizzie, where aaaaareee you? 🤗
The cutest hide-and-seek with @lizzie_the_cardicorgi and her Mama 💕🐕
These two! 🥰🐾 Marco has worked so consistently with Olivia on her recall (as well as her reactivity and impulse control) throughout our sessions and in between. It truly shows in this STELLAR recall (have you tried calling your dog back from fetch MID-FETCH??). It makes training so fun for me when dog parents put in the work like this. Thanks, Marco and Olivia! 🥰💪🏼
Leave it, Take It! Juno is such a smartie pants!
You’ll notice me counting out how many trials she successfully does out of 5. This helps me know whether she’s ready for me to push the criteria to the next level.
At 5/5, Clearly she was! Onto the next step, asking Juno to leave food planted on a walk. 🤓🐾
@itsivydood practicing her recall with Mama! Look how good she is!
I am very proud of all the work Dianah has put in to training her pup, who she has been waiting for for years! 🥰 She has post-its, training books, schedules, has enrolled in multiple classes and taken private lessons to set her beloved up for the most success. And above all else, Dianah is the most patient and sweet human. What a lucky pup Ivy is! I’m rooting for you two! 🥰🐾
@juno_aussiedog knows how to outsmart me in tug of war. 😅
This is Patrick. He’s a baby bullmastiff. I’m obsessed. He’s learning “touch!” 🐒🐾
Little Phoebe here is learning what a vocal cue is.
She responds to the hand signal for sit, but doesn’t sit for just the vocal cue quite yet. To train this, I first say the vocal cue, and 1-2 seconds later give her the hand signal, followed by a food reward if she sits.
We’re using Pavlovian conditioning here: one event predicts another (in this case she learns that the “sit!” cue predicts the hand prompt.
Operant conditioning also comes into play when she sits and because of this gets a food reward.
Eventually she’ll start to sit for just the vocal cue, with no hand signal needed.
Notice I keep my body still other than the hand signal (and the tapping prompt to get her to stand again) so as not to confuse her - dogs are motion sensitive! I mark the behaviour (“yes!”) before I reach into my pouch and treat her. Clean mechanics are important in training, keep that body still and watch your timing!
Also how CUTE IS PHOEBE?! 🐒🥰
My co-trainer, (and one of my favourite people) Wan-yi, brought her new family member, @weizslabro home last month.
It has been so beautiful watching her train him and bond with him. She has a great sense of humour and grace about training, and Brodie’s just the sweetest, as you can see. I am also proudly accepting the position of Godmother 🧚🏻♀️😎
Congrats Wan-yi and Jason! 🐾💕
Harley learns to fetch. 🎾
Fetch is a great activity in short bursts. You want to avoid developing an “obsessive fetcher” in your dog, so keep play times short and varied when using fetch.
Harley has been learning to bring the ball all the way back to me (rather than not picking it up or dropping it halfway). To teach her this, I used both chaining and shaping. You can also use backchaining to teach fetch. Scratching your head over all the terminology? Give us a call🎾😉🐾
Just another adorable day at the office 🐾💕
“Bingpot!” 🐶
Katrina and Hung have been working so hard on emergency recall with their new rescue pup Podo and I’m very proud! Podo is learning to leave Dad (who has a handful of yummy food) and run to Mum at the sound of “Bingpot!”.
Does your dog have a special recall cue? 🦮🐾
