Hi Everyone,

The agility community has been rocked this morning by news of our friend Kat at Extension Dog Sports in Nanaimo having had a house fire. 💔 💔

DogWorks will be organizing a raffle as a fundraiser with 100% of it going to help Kat and her family get back on their feet.

Evolve Dog Training would like to help collect donations.

➡️ If you have anything you would like to contribute to the raffle baskets, please consider donating. Items such as gift cards, new dog gear, new kitchen items, travel items, etc are always popular.

🔹 Raffle baskets will be put together on Wed Dec 13 morning, and raffle ticket sales will start later in the day Dec 13th. The raffle will be drawn (livestreamed) on Friday Dec 22 at 11am and will be delivered to anyone local before Christmas.

DogWorks will have tickets for sale in person and online…I will share more details here on FB.

Small-Space Agility is a fun, interactive class for all ages, held in a small classroom. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of the sport and various equipment, such as jumps, tunnels, cavelletis, cones etc.All activities you learn can be practiced in your living room. A great class to tire out an active dog or puppy!!!

FOUNDATION AGILITY: A class for dogs who are new to agility training and looking to learn the basics. Classes open to dogs over 7 months of age.

THURSDAYS AT 10:35am-11:35am

LOCATION: Agility classes are held at DogWorks Training Center: 3133 Sumner Ave, Burnaby.

Had fun training Goats...The foundation of training should be based on positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is the process of giving a dog (or GOAT!) a reward to encourage the behavior you want, like getting a pay check for going to work.

Practiced recalls today on my walk. Besides rewarding my dog for coming to his name, I also treated him for just choosing to check in with me. When rewarding the behaviours I want, my dog starts to offer them, and coming to me is his CHOICE. That always makes me happy. 🐾

Crate Comfort - Is your pup really comfortable?

Murphy has no problems going into his car crate...Coming out has been another story. Everytime his mom reached in to get him, he would bare his teeth and growl at her. After one training session we got this....Great job Murphy and Katie!!!

Cooperative Care is one of the absolute best things you can do for your dog. We can train these behaviours early on to prevent stress and create a positive experience. Cooperative Care behaviours are easy to teach our dogs. It helps them feel comfortable being handled by strangers, vets and groomers. Diba demonstrates the chin rest and hip shift while he gets a massage from All Paws Massage.

One dog training idea that I strongly encourage every dog owner to train is “PARK.” This behavior encourages your dog to “stay with me “while I’m doing something else. Examples are: Talking to someone at the park Having guests over Dining outdoors Paying at a store For socializing, it’s a good opportunity to sit with your puppy and watch the world go by. If you “PARK” it’s important your puppy has a positive experience!!! Here Diba “PARKS” outside the supermarket with me while my husband goes shopping. There were lots of distractions but he handles it well. He is rewarded every few minutes for just hanging out.
