🌿 Can a city grow its own food? This powerful read says YES — and shows you how.

📚 Staff Pick of the Month: Farm the City

As food security becomes a pressing global issue, Farm the City is more than just an inspiring vision — it’s a practical roadmap for transforming urban spaces into thriving farms. From rooftops to vacant lots, this book is a call to action for greener, more resilient cities.

💬 Why Molly chose it:
"I picked Farm the City because I believe urban areas must take food security seriously. This book doesn’t romanticize—it gets into the nitty-gritty of building real urban farms. Think soil tests, containers, compost, permits, and beyond. It’s honest, helpful, and deeply hopeful."

Packed with expert insights, real-world case studies, and hands-on advice, Farm the City shows how growing food where we live can reshape not just our diets, but our communities and economies.

Huge thank you to the beautiful people at , a local business doing big things for sustainability and community care. They generously donated reusable, unbleached organic cotton produce bags to our farmers and community members, helping us cut down on plastic and pack our fresh harvest with care. 🌱♻️

Better Basics believes in making sustainable living more accessible and chose to support our work at Sole Food by treating our crew to these thoughtful and practical bags. Even our big ol’ farm dog Makwa approves!🐶

We’re so grateful for partnerships like this. Go check them out and show some support! 🙌

We have new buckets! 🪣💝

Huge shoutout and thanks to for donating these buckets to our farm. They came in at a time where we really needed them!

Here's a non-comprehensive list of the multitude of uses for buckets on an urban farm:
🪣 compost transportation vessel
🪣 w**d collection unit
🪣 mobile seat when harvesting or w**ding
🪣 goose deterrent (clank them together)
🪣 amendment container
🪣 hide-n-seek spot (for Laura pictured here)
🪣 and more!

Swipe to see more pictures of Laura's pure joy amidst these buckets 😄✨️

We turn parking lots into farms.

Sole Food transforms vacant urban land into street farms that grow artisan quality fruits and vegetables, available at farmer’s markets, local restaurants and retail outlets. We believe healthy food systems foster healthy communities and envision a future where good food is accessible, grown sustainably, where farms thrive in an urban setting, and where our community comes together to connect directly with their food and their neighbors.
