It's that time of year! Ember had her first visit to see Santa Claus. She wished for lots of puddles to play in and allllll the squeaky toys.

Her cousin Molly came to visit Santa too and they were VERY excited to be there together.

Ember's favourite "unofficial" dog park in Kits has just been converted to the annual Christmas tree lot. I actually love the tree lot (it's been an annual tradition for decades). I'm happy to see it return and bring a favourite festive spot to the neighbourhood.

The disappointing thing is that this unofficial space is the ONLY fenced dog-park in the Kitsilano area. In order to take Ember to a fenced enclosure we have to drive to get there. We are still working on Ember's recall (we only adopted her two weeks ago) so taking her to an unfenced park is not an option. The fenced area was also an excellent space for us to safely practice recall training with her.

People come from all over Kitsilano to use this area, as it is the only fenced space available. It's become a highly valued resource for dog owners. Given the amount of dogs that use the enclosure daily, it is clear that the addition of an official fenced dog-park is warranted in this part of the city. In the absence of something official in place, dog owners will seek other locations to safely exercise their dogs. They may have to drive to a location farther away or they may cheat and find other spaces close to home - letting their dogs off-leash where they are not allowed.

With the population in Vancouver densifying more and more everyday, so to does the population of dogs. People are being encouraged to ditch their cars, but then how do we get to those dog parks which are critical for our dog's development, but are too far to walk to?

There are a couple of areas in Kits where the City has proposed putting in fenced enclosures, but so far there has been no movement on making that a reality. I'm hoping we will see that change soon as these spaces are important for dogs to exercise, learn and socialize in a safe environment.

Week 1 with Ember!

It's hard to believe it's been just over a week with this girl! In some ways it feels like she has been with us forever. We are still getting to know each other though, and it's been a great journey so far. She is a goofy, loving, high energy, biting (she's teething right now) puppy. And just when you think she can't annoy you any more, she cuddles up and your heart melts.

Looking forward to the weeks to come!

Ember says happy Football Day!

After a LONG morning walk, lots of play when we got home and half a 12" bully stick, she's ready for a long afternoon nap while watching NFL football 🏈

Luckily there are some things you can do to make sure this fall favourite is fun for everyone in your family – in...

DEAL ALERT!!!! I bought this bed for Avy several years ago. She loved swimming and mud puddles and was often wet at the end of the walk! The combination of the waterproof cover, with the memory foam for comfort made it a quick favourite. She loved sleeping on it and I loved that she could settle on it after a rainy walk or a swim.

It's on sale right now on amazon for 40% off - if you're looking for something like this, I recommend it!

A Website For Dog Owners, By Dog Owners

Hi there! We are Matt and Stacey, two dog loving people who decided to make a website. The idea for the dog network started when Stacey first got a dog and began the long process of trying to find the best dog parks, trails and hikes to go explore with her new pup. She quickly found that information was not always easy to come by and started to compile her own list of favourite places. From this the dognetwork.ca was born.

Now our website features a directory of off-leash dog parks, beaches and trails from around the Province. We also have a blog where we feature helpful articles about dog care, favourite places to go and more. One of our favourite things to do is to travel so we have started to feature posts about dog friendly destinations and everything you need to know when you get there.

We are constantly adding new content and locations so check back often to see what is new! We’d also love to hear from you. If you have a favourite park or dog friendly place let us know and we’d be thrilled to add it. Thanks for stopping by our page.
