Big and Small Rescue Society We are a Vancouver-based registered non-profit society dedicated to re-homing dogs These dogs are sad, sick, often starving, and many are badly abused.

We rescue dogs locally, from Northern Canadian reservations and dogs about to be euthanized in high-kill shelters in California. These shelters destroy 87% of their intake or nearly 1000 loving dogs a month. We are not changing the world with our small rescue efforts, but to quote a popular saying in rescue, 'we are surely changing the world for that one dog'. We take these dogs in to foster homes

where they are lovingly restored to health. We find them kind and caring homes and make them the promise to love them forever. It's a labour of love; it's our small effort to live up to their incredible friendship. Although we appreciate the many caring foster and adoption applications for our dogs, it is our mandate to fit the family to the dog's needs, not vice versa. As such, not all applicants may be considered suitable for our rescue dogs.

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET CHICO. What a cutie pie! Chico is about 3-4 years old. He is chihauhua mix of some kind. He weighs just 9 lbs. He is kennelled with lots of dogs and does really well. He is easy to handle by the staff. He is going to enjoy finding someone's warm lap. He is not yet tested with kids and cats. Can you give Chico some love while we find him a furever home?

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET COCO - This beautiful 1 year 40 lbs little boy is looking for some foster love. He looks like a collie mix to us. Coco is a sweetie; truly a love bug. He will cuddle all day long, if you let him. Coco is great with people and great with dogs. He is intelligent and very keen to learn. We think Coco would fit into most households. He is not tested yet with cats or small children. He is being cared for by older children/teenagers.

Scheduled for euthanasia

Blanca is a gentle 13-year-old senior girl who urgently needs a loving home. She was adopted from a US rescue in 2015 and has spent many years being a loyal, deeply loved companion.

Blanca has a few sensitivities — she can be reactive around other dogs and may feel unsure around loud voices — but with patience, consistency, and kindness, she settles and builds trust. She lives with a baby and is a wonderful, attentive “big sister.” At night, unexpected noises may startle her, leading to some barking.

She has had one isolated reactive incident when someone accidentally stepped on her paw; no serious injury occurred.

Blanca’s medical needs are well managed. She receives Cytopoint for allergies, has early arthritis common for her age, and previously had mast cell tumors that were successfully removed. She is on a special diet that helps keep her comfortable.

Her family, with heavy hearts, can no longer provide the level of care and support Blanca deserves. She is currently scheduled for euthanasia on Sunday, January 11th.

Blanca is a sweet senior who still has so much love to give. She needs a calm, understanding home with someone willing to offer patience, compassion, and safety in her golden years.

FOSTER FOUND THANK YOU - our beautiful Lab mix has had surgery (spay) and entropion surgery (eye-lid surgery to help with turned in eye lashes) - SHE NEEDS A PLACE TO REST - Elsa is in a bit of pain and cannot manage stairs AT THE MOMENT. We need someone who has access their home either via an elevator (apartment people) or a home without major stair access. She is the SWEETEST and most GENTLE angel ever. ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET FREYA - This beautiful 2 year old (best guess) angel weighs just 13 lbs. She is such a sweet little girl. She really is a kind soul. Freya looks chihuahua-dachshund to us. She is amazing with all the resident dogs she has been fostered with. She has been really good with the 2 cats she has been fostered with! Freya is on the shy side. She is sucky and loves her person. We think she would love a quieter home - even if its filled with other animals. We really like this gentle girl. She is not tested with kids yet (we do wonder whether loud young children might be too much) but older children should be OK. Cats and dogs are OK. This is a lovely small dog.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET PIPALUK - Oh dear Lord! This beautiful cream puff is about 12 weeks old. He is growing like a w**d. Pipaluk is a smart and loving baby boy. He is already taking himself for a walk. Yup! Pipaluk is a darling, curious and active Northern breed mix. We see husky. Maybe some malamute and maybe some lab or shepherd. So hard to say. Pipaluk is smart, smart, smart. He is ready to learn. We would LOVE to find him a home in an active household. He is going to need lots of outdoor time and exercise and mental stimulation. He is rambunctious so small children may be knocked down. He does really well with other dogs. He is meeting a donkey on his walks and he is very gentle. His recall is amazing. He is living with 2 small dogs and he is learning puppy manners. He will need continued investment in training and time.

Foster To Adopt Needed : Meet sweet Elsa 🩷 🤍

Elsa is a beautiful, gentle, loving, and affectionate Labrador Retriever mix, approximately 2–3 years old and weighing about 80 lbs. She has a calm, docile nature and a very sweet soul. Elsa is not demanding — she simply wants love and connection. She adores her people and will happily rest her head in your lap for a scratch.

Elsa walks nicely on leash, listens well, and genuinely wants to please. She is loving, loyal, and deeply devoted — the kind of dog who forms a strong, meaningful bond with her people.

Elsa has been living successfully in a foster home with seven small dogs and two young children, and she has done very well in a busy household environment. She is gentle with children, affectionate, and respectful in the home.

We believe Elsa will shine brightest in a home that appreciates her quiet heart and gentle nature.

Pipaluk is about 10-11 weeks old He is such a smart little boy. He is keen to learn. He is very affectionate and sweet. He is active and curious. Pipaluk is great with other dogs and kids. He is a puppy and loves to wrangle with children; so he may knock down a small child. We would love to find PIpaluk a loving and active home. He is such a fluffy little ducking.

His momma is a gentle 13 lbs chihuahua mix. Daddy is unknown. We see some dachshund too. Hard to say. Chad/Cooper is a lover. He loves to be held. He is very people oriented. He is more active and out going. He plays with the larger dogs well. He loves to explore and play. He is smart. And he looks you deep in the eyes. Such a soulful pup. What a beautiful baby. ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET CYRUS (aka CASPER) - Oh be still my beating heart. This darling little boy is 9-10 weeks old. He is fully vaccinated dewormed, microchipped and ready to find his new home. His momma is a 13 lbs chihuahua mix. Daddy is unknown. We see some dachshund too. Hard to say. Cyrus is a lover. He has been the most human-oriented pup ever. He is very snuggly. He is a calm pup. He plays and quite chill. He loves to be picked up and hugged by a human. He is smart. And he looks you deep in the eyes. What a beautiful baby. He would fit into most households.
