Big and Small Rescue Society We are a Vancouver-based registered non-profit society dedicated to re-homing dogs These dogs are sad, sick, often starving, and many are badly abused.

We rescue dogs locally, from Northern Canadian reservations and dogs about to be euthanized in high-kill shelters in California. These shelters destroy 87% of their intake or nearly 1000 loving dogs a month. We are not changing the world with our small rescue efforts, but to quote a popular saying in rescue, 'we are surely changing the world for that one dog'. We take these dogs in to foster homes

where they are lovingly restored to health. We find them kind and caring homes and make them the promise to love them forever. It's a labour of love; it's our small effort to live up to their incredible friendship. Although we appreciate the many caring foster and adoption applications for our dogs, it is our mandate to fit the family to the dog's needs, not vice versa. As such, not all applicants may be considered suitable for our rescue dogs.

Adopter needed – MEET MR. BOWIE
This sweet boy is about 7–8 months old and weighs 35–40 lbs. Bowie is super sweet and eager to bond, though he can be a little nervous with new people and situations at first. The good news — he warms up quickly!

He’ll do best with a patient, dog-savvy family, ideally with another dog to help him feel more confident. He’s good with kids who understand dogs, though not suited for very young children. Bowie is curious about cats and would love to be their friend, though sometimes he can be a bit too eager.

He’s working on crate training and does best when another dog is nearby. He already knows some basics but will need continued training. With a bit of patience, Bowie will grow into a wonderful family dog. Bowie is currently in the Lower Mainland.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET MoMo🩵 - this cute nugget on the left is a 5-6 month softie. Yes, he actually has a white heart emblazoned on his chest. If that ain't a sign to come love him, frankly... what is? We see Flatcoat and Border Collie in his mix - but who knows. He is a sweetheart, love dogs, kids and pretty much anything and everyone. He weighs 30 lbs and is growing. He is not tested with cats yet. Adopters must have time for him.

**URGENT FOSTER NEEDED - MEET TERRY -This Little boy is puppy around 8 -10 months old. He looks like a poodle-terrier mix. Terry is only 8 lbs. He is on the shy side and is finding things quite overwhelming at the moment . He needs to learn more about human touch and needs an experienced dog handler.We think Terry would love a quiet and chill home where he can feel safe. We are going to say no to young children at the moment until he decompresses. If you have love in your heart and the patience to heal a scared puppy, then we would love to hear from you. All fosters must be in the Lower Mainland to access our designated vets.

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET JACK - Isn't this boy regal? We really feel for him. He is around 5-7 years old, which is considered too old to adopt from a shelter. We know he will languish and worry he won't ever exit. Jack is 62 lbs. He has beautiful eyes and a lush coat. He is kennelled with another dog and he is doing well. He is handled by the staff and does well too. He is not tested with kids and cats. Is there anyone who would like to help this boy while we find him a furever home? We would love to find an active person who can show him our beautiful outdoors.

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET COLETTE - This adorable girl looks like a schnoodle, maybe some maltese as well. She weighs just 16 lbs. The shelter thinks Colette is a senior and perhaps 12 years old. We beg to differ; we think she is younger. Either way, she will perish in the shelter if a rescue doesn't step up. Colette is doing well with other dogs. She is OK to handle by the shelter staff. Leslie is kennelled with other dogs and does well. She is OK to handle by the shelter staff. We don't think she looks very happy in the shelter environment. Who can blame her. 3RD PARTY POST - MEET WINSTON ❤️ TEMP FOSTER - FOUND 🥰

Winston is a 3.5 year old stunner of an Akita. He’s a big boy sitting at 110 lbs. Winston’s dad has had a rough go in life but is trying to pick up the pieces. They are both currently living in a recovery house, and his dad only has a couple weeks left of his program. The issue is the house wants him gone now. One of our longtime volunteers met Winston yesterday, he was a total sweetheart ❤️ we really want to help him stay with his dad. We are looking for a temporary foster for Winston to bridge the time gap for his dad to finish his program & for them to be together again. We all know how our animals can be a life line and a major support to anyone that has struggled! Winston needs to be the ONLY dog in home as he is not good with other dogs. He loves his people and is good with bigger kids (he doesn’t realize his size with the littles). Cats are a no for this guy.

Hey Rescue Peeps, We have asked for your help with this rescue girl's surgery. We have managed to raise $560. We still have a long way to go to reach our target of $3,362.73. Thank you to ALL that donated. We need more help.
Duchess is an 11 month old rescue baby that entered our Society almost 3 months ago. She was limping. We discovered she has a shredded piece of cartilage in her shoulder. It a condition called Osteochondritis. We need to get it removed or it will seriously impede this deserving girl's mobility. The surgery costs $3,362.73. Please donate.
