Big and Small Rescue Society

We are a Vancouver-based registered non-profit society dedicated to re-homing dogs These dogs are sad, sick, often starving, and many are badly abused.

We rescue dogs locally, from Northern Canadian reservations and dogs about to be euthanized in high-kill shelters in California. These shelters destroy 87% of their intake or nearly 1000 loving dogs a month. We are not changing the world with our small rescue efforts, but to quote a popular saying in rescue, 'we are surely changing the world for that one dog'. We take these dogs in to foster homes

where they are lovingly restored to health. We find them kind and caring homes and make them the promise to love them forever. It's a labour of love; it's our small effort to live up to their incredible friendship. Although we appreciate the many caring foster and adoption applications for our dogs, it is our mandate to fit the family to the dog's needs, not vice versa. As such, not all applicants may be considered suitable for our rescue dogs.

ADOPTER NEEDED - Oh those eyes. Meet TARA. Tara is 12-14 week old border collie mixed maybe with a husky/chow/American Eskimo? Hard to say. This is a quiet girl. She is not a hyper at all. Tara weighs 17 lbs. She is such a smart girl. She is learning commands. She is happy to cuddle her people. She is doing well with other dogs. She has a very even temperament for a puppy of her age. We think Tara would fit into most households. We would love to see her live a happy life with lots of outdoor walks. She deserves someone who has time for her. We LOVE TARA.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET GWEN. Gwen is the white shepherd-husky mix at the front. This girl is PERFECTION. We can not recommend her enough. Gwen is 1 year old and weighs 50 lbs. She is slender because she loves to run and do zoomies outdoors. There was never a dog that Gwen did not love - big, small and everything in-between. She's great on a leash. She has super recall. Gwen is also a human social butterfly. She greets with soft kisses and gives a tail wag to all humans. She is uber friendly. She wants to be buddies with everyone. We think she'd be amazing in just about any household. We think - though she is not currently living with children - that she'd be great with children. She is not tested with cats yet. She really is a social angel who is just a happy soul. She has energy and would love to be able to stretch her long legs. We want to see Gwen in the best furever home ever.

FOSTER NEEDED - MEET TARA - This beautiful girl is 11-13 weeks old. She weighs 15 lbs. We see a beautiful border collie in her possible mixed with an Akita or a husky. Very hard to say. Tara is a quiet and gentle baby girl. She loves other dogs. She listens and wants to please. She loves a good cuddle and to be held. We think she's be a great addition to most households. She should be OK with cats at this age. We would love to find her someone who has time for her.

FOSTER FOUND TY - MEET TULLOCH - Tulloch is an utter sweetheart. He is 1-2 years old, 33 lbs wire haired pony. We see Cairn or Norfolk Terrier in him with maybe a grandmother that was an English Bulldog. LOL! He cannot be beat for cuteness. He is a chunky little monkey. Tulloch LOVEs people. He is very gentle and sweet. He wants to feel secure as he just lost his brother (in foster care as well) and spent time at a kill shelter. We would love someone who has time for him; someone who can take him on neighbourly walks and give him the big hugs he so wants and deserves. He is not tested YET with kids or cats. He is a pretty gentle soul.

FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET POPPY. This angel os a puppy is jusy 8 months old She weighs 9 lbs. She is a wizard-in-the-making with those cute eyebrows. We see terrier but she is very fine b***d so maybe some chihuahua too? Poppy is a sweet and gentle girl. She wriggles and dances with joy. She LOVES her person. She is a lap sitter. She will snuggle under the duvet at night to find warmth and security. She gets along with other dogs and is very respectful of the senior dog in the home. She is respectful of the resident cats too; and gives no chase. If you want someone who will adore you and follow you around, then Poppy may be your girl. She would be fine with kids as long as they are respectful. This is a lovely puppy.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET WINTER - What a beautiful baby girl. This husky-shepherd with stunning blue eyes is 14 weeks old. She has all the prettiness of a Siberian Husky but the smarts and patience of Shepherd. Winter loves to listen and learn. She has energy, but what puppy doesn't? She settles down. and sleeps well. Winter is great with children. She is not excessive with young kids. She is affectionate. She adores other dogs and listens to boundaries. She would love a soft bed to land on and someone who has time for her. She is going to make an excellent adult dog. This baby girl will love hikes, run and walks in our beautiful British Columbia. She is not yet tested with cats but as she is a baby she can be integrated into most households.

URGENT SHORT-TERM FOSTER NEEDED SAT NOV 2- MON NOV 4 - MEET GWEN. Did you know the name Gwen is the Celtic language means white and holy!!! That just about describe our beautiful pale shepherd mix. Gwen is 1 year old and weighs 53 lbs. She is spayed. Gwen is a Staff Favourite at the shelter She has been at the shelter for over 108 days. Good Grief. Sniff. She is truly the sweetest dog ever. She is great with other dogs, has been to play group multiple times and has had multiple kennel mates. She is very social with staff and walks well on a leash. You can see in the video below that she loves to cuddle and allows pets all over her body! She does well with children (staff had her out on a leash walking around the shelter to meet and greet people and she had multiple kiddos come up to her). She truly is a wonderful dog! She is not tested yet with cats and has not yet been assessed living with children. Is there anyone who can wrap their arms around this deserving girl and give her the love she deserves? She'd love a long walk or a hike.

FOSTERS NEEDED - MEET TULLOCH (top) and BALFOUR (below) These two little male BORDER TERRIERS x are stuck in jail. We wanna spring them. Tulloch is 2 years old and Balfour is 1 year old. Both babies weighs nearly 30 lbs. Tulloch and Balfour are described as very friendly with staff and great with other dogs. These cutie patooties are not yet tested with kids or cats. Border terriers and the terrier class are just amazing little dogs with huge hearts and fantastic stamina. We know these two are gonna love hikes and exploring our beautiful outdoors.

ADOPTED BY Wonderful People - MEET EVA - Ain't this girl a beauty? Eva is an EXCELLENT girl. She is just 1 year old and she weighs 50 lbs. We see shepherd and some Retriever in her. She has such a lovely lush golden coat. Eva is a sweet smart loving dog. She would rather sit on your lap for a cuddle that be anywhere else in the world. She LOVES every dog she meets and she plays really well with dogs. She loves new people. Eva is smart and loves to learn. She is potty trained and walks really well on a leash. Eva loves her person. She is very focused on her 'human significant other'. We think this girl would make an excellent camping, hiking and running partner. If you like the outdoors, Eva is your girl. Eva is not tested with kids yet. She jumps up and can knock small kids down. She's not tested with cats yet.

Meet smiley Lola, a spunky 17lb Jack Russell Terrier Chihuahua mix ready to steal your heart! ❤️ She is 1-2 years old. She has a very silly-billy playful side. Lola loves her walks, treats, and belly rubs. She enjoys cuddling with her favorite stuffed animals and walks beautifully on a leash. Lola would thrive in a home with older children (8 years +) who can respect her boundaries. Lola is a little shy around new people and dogs, but she warms up. She is living with another dog and is doing great. She is not yet tested with cats but she exhibits prey drive on her neighbourhood walks. Lola would love a family, even another calm dog to hang with. She is a quiet girl who would love a chill home and a warm lap. Lola is shy, calm and an utter sweetheart. ADOPTED by wonderful people - MEET ROCKY. Oh. My. Word. This beautifully guy (who just received a generous groom) looks like a poodle crossed with a Schnauzer. He weighs 29 lbs. He is 1 year old. Rocky is a joyous dude. He is Mr Personality. He loves other dogs; he wrangles and wrestles with the resident lab. He is active and intelligent. He is just a very engaged dude. He would LOVE to have someone who can take him hiking, running and exploring. He is friendly He LOVES his person and wants to be as close as possible. He does miss them when he loses sight of his person. He is being crate trained and is making great headway. Rocky is not yet tested with kids. He does jump up so small kids might get knocked down. He's not tested with cats yet. This is an adorably cute young fuzz-head and he is affectionate. He loves a cuddle.

ADOPTED by wonderful people - MEET JASPER - WE cannot understand how such a lovely puppy is still waiting to find his ever after home? Jasper has the most gorgeous cinnamon-chocolate undercoat. We see Shepherd in him and think he may be a Dutch Shepherd or even Australian Kelpie puppy. Whatever his breed or mix he’s an amazing guy. He weighs 12 lbs already and we think he is 10-12 weeks old. Jasper is an attentive and loving puppy. He is SMART. He loves to be held and kissed. He is a cuddle bug. Jasper LOVES all dogs and cats. He is fostered with lots of animals. We think Jasper would make a wonderful addition to almost any household. We think this amazing, smart, loving boy deserves a home with someone who has time for him and can take him out to explore our beautiful province. He'd be a great hiking or running partner. This is a good egg.

FOSTER NEEDED- MEET ELLA - We have a special case of a Maltese girl who weighs only 8 lbs and is just 1 year old. She was at high of euthanization because of her disability. Ella has a deformed foot - that causes her absolutely no pain. She manages to move around OK. She can walk on her hind legs kinda like a bunny and she shuffles around as a three legged dog, as well. How could we not help her? Now, we need someone who has LOVE and PATIENCE in their heart to look after this friendly and sweet girl while we find her a happy furever-after. She's not yet tested with kids and cats. We don't see a bad bone in the little girl.

FOSTER FOUND - TY <3 . How did this angel end up in a kill shelter? PLEASE HELP. Marion is an Australian Shepherd x. She weighs 36lbs. She is 3-5 years old. Marion is a nice girl kennelled with some excitable dogs. She does really well. She described by the shelter as easy to handle and very sweet and deserving. Can we find someone who has love in their heart for a deserving girl like Marion? She is obviously not tested with kids yet or cats. But we know she's laid back with other dogs. FOSTER FOUND TY- MEET GLENDA - Look at this sweet baby girl. She is also stuck at the kill shelter. She has been there for over 2 months. Glenda needs to get out. She is only 10 months old. She is full of kisses and wiggles. She weighs 29 lbs. We see shepherd but she is a small lady. It so hard to say what else is in the mix. Glenda is not tested yet with kids or cats. We think children would be OK with her. She may knock down small children with her enthusiasm. She is good with dogs and loves everyone she meets. FOSTER FOUND TY <3 - MEET LINDA - This shaking terrified little girl just broke my heart. She looks JRT-chihuahua x to us. She is so scared at the shelter. Poor baby. Linda is a sweet girl who is overwhelmed by events that have lead to her being incarcerated at a kill shelter. She weighs 19 lbs and is about 3-5 years old. She is OK with dogs (mainly she just shakes in the corner of her kennel).She is described as a sweet dog that deserves a second chance. She is not tested with kids or cats, obviously. FOSTER FOUND - What a cute little squirt. Super weighs 7 lbs and is 7 years old. He is a chihuahua x. This guy is so sweet and tiny. He wiggles all over the place. Rupert is kennelled with dogs and loves his people. He is tiny so small people might drop him but we think he'd fit into most households. We would love to give this beautiful tiny boy a second chance.
