Big and Small Rescue Society We are a Vancouver-based registered non-profit society dedicated to re-homing dogs These dogs are sad, sick, often starving, and many are badly abused.

We rescue dogs locally, from Northern Canadian reservations and dogs about to be euthanized in high-kill shelters in California. These shelters destroy 87% of their intake or nearly 1000 loving dogs a month. We are not changing the world with our small rescue efforts, but to quote a popular saying in rescue, 'we are surely changing the world for that one dog'. We take these dogs in to foster homes

where they are lovingly restored to health. We find them kind and caring homes and make them the promise to love them forever. It's a labour of love; it's our small effort to live up to their incredible friendship. Although we appreciate the many caring foster and adoption applications for our dogs, it is our mandate to fit the family to the dog's needs, not vice versa. As such, not all applicants may be considered suitable for our rescue dogs.

Foster To Adopt Needed : Meet sweet Elsa 🩷 🤍

Elsa is a beautiful, gentle, loving, and affectionate Labrador Retriever mix, approximately 2–3 years old and weighing about 80 lbs. She has a calm, docile nature and a very sweet soul. Elsa is not demanding — she simply wants love and connection. She adores her people and will happily rest her head in your lap for a scratch.

Elsa walks nicely on leash, listens well, and genuinely wants to please. She is loving, loyal, and deeply devoted — the kind of dog who forms a strong, meaningful bond with her people.

Elsa has been living successfully in a foster home with seven small dogs and two young children, and she has done very well in a busy household environment. She is gentle with children, affectionate, and respectful in the home.

We believe Elsa will shine brightest in a home that appreciates her quiet heart and gentle nature.

ADOPTER NEEDED - MEET PIPALUK - this boy is gorgeous and intelligent. We see husky but he may have some other northern breed mixes in him. Pipaluk is about 10-11 weeks old He is such a smart little boy. He is keen to learn. He is very affectionate and sweet. He is active and curious. Pipaluk is great with other dogs and kids. He is a puppy and loves to wrangle with children; so he may knock down a small child. We would love to find PIpaluk a loving and active home. He is such a fluffy little ducking.

His momma is a gentle 13 lbs chihuahua mix. Daddy is unknown. We see some dachshund too. Hard to say. Chad/Cooper is a lover. He loves to be held. He is very people oriented. He is more active and out going. He plays with the larger dogs well. He loves to explore and play. He is smart. And he looks you deep in the eyes. Such a soulful pup. What a beautiful baby. His momma is a 13 lbs chihuahua mix. Daddy is unknown. In this boy, we see some dachshund, much like his mommy. Hard to say what the mix truly is. Contrad is a sweet pea. His momma is a 13 lbs chihuahua mix. Daddy is unknown. IN this girl with her soft fluffy fur, we see some maltese. Hard to say. Petunia is a sweet pea. She is the most shy in the litter. She loves to be held and cuddled. She is very gentle. She wants to explore and play. She is smart, too. She needs some soft encouragement to try new experiences, and once she adjusts she is all about figuring her new world out. What a beautiful baby. She would fit into most households. FOSTER to ADOPT NEEDED – MEET PANDA 🐼
Panda is a Chihuahua–JRT mix, approximately 1–2 years old, weighing about 18 lbs.

Panda is a sensitive boy who needs a patient, stable home. He requires time to settle in and someone who can guide him and show him that the world isn’t such a scary place. Panda would do best with an adopter who has experience with rescue dogs and understands the importance of consistency, structure, and gentle leadership.

Panda can stay home alone and does not have separation anxiety. He has been kenneled with other dogs and has done well, showing no aggression toward dogs in our care.

Panda has had a rough start in life and is looking for a committed home that will allow him to decompress, build trust, and feel secure.

ADOPTER NEEDED - PIPALUK - Oh dear Lord! This beautiful cream puff is about 10-11 weeks old. He is growing like a w**d. And he thinks he's got the WHOLE WORLD figured out. He is taking himself for a walk. Yup! Pipaluk is a darling, curious and active Northern breed mix. We see husky. Maybe some malamute and maybe some lab or shepherd. So hard to say. Pipaluk is smart, smart, smart. He is ready to learn. We would LOVE to find him a home in an active household. He is going to need lots of outdoor time and exercise and mental stimulation. He is rambunctious so small children may be knocked down. He does really well with other dogs. He is living with 2 small dogs and he is learning puppy manners. He will need continued investment in training and time.

ADOPTER NEEDED : Meet Andy 🐾

We are looking for a loving forever home for Andy due to his owner’s job relocation. This decision was not made lightly, and our hope is to find someone who will cherish Andy and give him the calm, secure home he deserves in his senior years.

Andy is an 11-year-old Chihuahua who has been with the same owner for the past 11 years and was originally rescued. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, healthy, and does not require any medication. Andy is an indoor dog who absolutely loves to cuddle, nap, and be close to his person, but he also has a playful side—he enjoys playing catch at home and going for walks.

Andy’s reactivity is fear-based, which means he needs someone patient and experienced with small breeds who can confidently guide him and help him feel safe. With proper introductions, he can coexist well with other dogs or cats. He has an established trainer/sitter, and we strongly recommend continuing with them, as they have been helping Andy work through his reactivity.

Andy would thrive in a calm, understanding home with someone who sees past his fears and recognizes the loyal, affectionate companion he truly is. We believe the right person is out there—someone who will give Andy the love, stability, and comfort he deserves.
