Chill, I'm not ripping the grass. Just nibbling.
Alpacas nibble only the tops of grasses and plants; they do not rip plants out of the ground, resulting in less disturbance of the vegetation and allowing it to grow black.

PACOMARCA is an experimental station for scientific research on the genetic improvement of alpacas and the transfer of technology and good-quality (valued) genetic material to the smallholders of the peruvian andes. It seeks to contribute to the sustainability of alpaca production through the improvement of fibre quality, which leads to higher prices in the market and maintaining the interest of farmers in raising alpacas.

Pacomarca belongs to the textile division of the GRUPO INCA, whose companies INCA TOPS SA and INCALPACA TPX support (provide financing for) the programs carried out there.

As a consequence of the relationship with certain communities and different alpaca producers, PACOMARCA produces a limited quantity of fibre each year with special characteristics, unique in the market and which is 100% traceable; this material is sold under the brand-name PACOMARCA.

Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa, Peru.
A site founded in 1579 that extends over more than 20,000 square meters and is home to centuries of religious and cultural tradition.

Have you ever seen a black alpaca?
It is an animal at risk of extinction. Its population represents barely 1% of the total number of alpacas that currently exist in Peru.
Having reached such a low limit in the number of completely black animals means that their genes have a very small percentage.
The laboratory in Pacomarca focuses on rescuing this subspecies and making it organically and naturally, studying and evaluating them so that breeders who wish to raise this type of animal can repopulate their flocks so that the species is not lost and reduce the environmental impact to zero due to the non-use of dyes.
