We are offering a summer night Rally Obedience Novice course starting July 22nd in the Kits area for five weeks. Cost is $225 and we keep the class to 5 dog/handler teams. Dogs must have solid foundation obedience and cannot be dog or human reactive, or overly aroused in their environment.

In this hot weather cool your dog's food down with this freaking adorable West Paw Toppl and plug.

If you feed raw, easy peasy. Just stuff and freeze.

If you feel kibble, stir in some nutrient dense fresh food (an egg, cooked meat, sardines, bone broth, goat milk...you get the idea) to act as a binder, stuff and freeze.

Licking (and sniffing and chewing) elevates serotonin in our dogs, AND this little cutie will help to keep your dog cool.

Cannot recommend this product line enough. Made locally. The whole product line is wonderful.

Summer is definitely in full swing now!! During the summer we need to be more aware of hot sand and pavement, possible ear infections from more swimming and of course ticks during hikes in the warmer months!

FOSTER or ADOPTER needed! Poor Rainbow is struggling with stress and anxiety here at the shelter. Please help us spread the word to find an experienced foster, or better yet, an adopter!

Rainbow is very affectionate, cuddly and playful. She is looking for a home without other pets but well-matched children are fine! She will do best in a home with a fenced yard as she can be reactive to other dogs.

A good reminder for what lies ahead for your puppy! If you are needing help in this challenging stage, please reach out. I see the adolescent stage as a crossroads of sorts and one that requires a thoughtful and purposeful approach. I am just surfacing from this with my own young dog.

All that adorable “puppiness” fades and the tolerance drops off sharply. In its place, an adolescent emerges from that puppy who the human is less prepared for and may vaguely recognize.

🧑‍⚕️ Your human doctor will advise you to shop on the outskirts of the grocery store where the food is fresh. They also advise against ultra-processed foods (found in the middle aisles of the store).

🫐 Why? Because it’s scientifically proven without a shadow of a doubt that a diverse fresh food diet is essential for good health.

🤔 If you believe your human medical doctor when they tell you this, why would you believe a veterinarian who advises against fresh feeding for your pet?

😐 FACT: Veterinarians are the only medical professionals pushing ultra processed feed as the most “scientific” way to feed pets.

Make enrichment a regular part of your dog's day! It's good for their health.

Beneficial effects of environmental enrichment early in life have been shown across many species, including dogs and humans. Early enrichment can be protective against age related decline later in life.

As pets age, their mobility and cognitive function decline, impacting their quality of life. Some pet parents think that activity isn't as important for older pets. That is not true. "Use it, or lose it" as they say. Especially with seniors, it is critical to find ways of keeping them engaged despite their physical capabilities changing. Puzzles are one of my favorite tools for this.

Locarno Off Leash Dog park permitted with the City of Vancouver. (Belmont and SE Marine Drive).

This is a mixed levels class with a focus of teaching brand new dogs the obstacles and some dogs sequencing 3-8 obstacles. There is differentiated instruction for the different levels. The focus is on speed and maneuvering your dog through a course of jumps and tunnels plus learning how the sport works.
