Close up! Maru recently visited us for bloodwork and radiographs, and we’re so proud of how well she did during her visit!

Diagnostic tests like bloodwork and radiographs are essential tools in veterinary medicine. They help us identify underlying health conditions, assess organ function, and detect issues that may not be visible during a physical exam. Early and accurate diagnosis allows us to provide timely treatment, improve outcomes, and ensure your pet stays happy and healthy.

If you have any questions about diagnostic testing or your pet’s health, we’re here to help!

We want to inform you about the recall of Northwest Naturals brand 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe raw & frozen pet food. This recall follows the confirmation of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a domestic cat that tragically passed away on December 24, 2024.

The affected cat, an indoor-only pet from Washington County, Oregon, was diagnosed after consuming this specific raw pet food. PCR testing and whole genome sequencing confirmed the infection was linked to the frozen raw cat food.

Raw pet food has the potential to expose pets—and indirectly humans—to harmful pathogens such as HPAI, Salmonella, and E. coli. These pathogens pose significant health risks, particularly for immunocompromised individuals.

If you have purchased this product, we strongly recommend discontinuing its use immediately. Please monitor your pets for any unusual symptoms and contact us if you have concerns about their health.

Your pet’s safety and well-being are our top priority. If you have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out.

12/30/2024

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has updated its guidelines to recommend that the leptospirosis (lepto) vaccine be considered a core vaccine for dogs. This is a significant change, as lepto was previously considered a non-core vaccine, meaning it was recommended based on individual risk factors.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted through contact with the urine of infected wildlife or other animals. It can cause severe illness in dogs, affecting their liver and kidneys, and in some cases, can even be fatal. It is also a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be transmitted to humans, which adds to the importance of vaccination.

The updated guidelines reflect the increased recognition of the risks of leptospirosis in various geographic areas, even in urban environments, due to factors such as climate changes and increased contact between wildlife and pets. By classifying lepto as a core vaccine, AAHA aims to ensure that all dogs, regardless of their specific environment, receive the protection they need against this potentially life-threatening disease.

As always, we’re committed to keeping your pets safe and healthy, and we’re here to discuss any questions you may have about your dog’s vaccination plan.
