As temperatures rise, remember to keep your furry friends safe! Here are some essential tips:

🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car: Even a few minutes can be dangerous as temperatures inside can soar quickly.

🐾 Protect those paws: Pavement and asphalt can get extremely hot. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

🏠 Stay cool: Ensure your pets have access to shade, fresh water, and a cool place to rest.

Did you know that August 15 is Check the Chip Day? It’s the perfect time to ensure your furry friend’s microchip information is up to date, especially since recent studies from PetRadar indicate that lost dogs, cats, and other pets increase by over 50% during the summer months.

The SPCA also estimates that over 1 million pets go missing each year in Canada, and sadly only five out of 100 stray cats without ID will find their way home.

✈🐾 Important Update for Pet Owners! 🐾✈

Planning to travel to the US with your dog? 🐶 Make sure you're up-to-date with the new regulations set by the CDC to ensure a smooth trip.

After updates on July 17 and again on July 22, the CDC majorly relaxed the rules for dog owners regarding the requirements. At this moment, the following is the information we received:

1. Dogs must be 6 months or older.
2. Dogs must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them – i.e. have an ISO microchip
3. Dogs must be healthy upon arrival.
4. Owners have to apply for CDC Dog Import Form online

No forms are needed from veterinarians and no need to go to CFIA for endorsement.

Even though a Rabies vaccine certificate was not mentioned in the requirement, we do recommend preparing a certificate of the current/valid Rabies vaccine. This was the basic requirement before the rule change, plus the reason for the new rules is to prevent Rabies disease to enter the U.S. In the event that the border does have concerns of the vaccine/Rabies status of your dog, having it on hand could prevent any unforeseen complications. Also, your dog will need proof of a valid Rabies vaccine to re-enter Canada.

Keep your pets safe this summer!

As the sun shines and we enjoy outdoor adventures, here are some essential heat safety tips:

🔥 Avoid Strenuous Activity: Avoid any strenuous activity with your pet during heat warnings (especially the short-snouted breeds as they are prone to overheating!). Look out for excessive panting, lethargy, or drooling. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cooler area right away.

🌊 Stay Hydrated & Shaded: Always carry a portable water bowl to keep your pets refreshed during outings and make sure there’s a shaded spot for your pets to escape the sun’s intense rays.

🚗 Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even for a short time and even with AC on, cars can heat up dangerously fast. Leave your best bud in a safe, cool spot to avoid the risk!

🐾 Protect Those Paws: If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws! Choose grassy paths to avoid pavements that could burn your pet’s feet, or consider using paw-safe booties.

UPDATE ON CDC REGULATION FOR TAKING YOUR DOGS TO THE U.S.

Good news and prgress on the new regulations of taking your beloved pooches down the U.S.!
