K9 Angus (ret'd) and the rest of our team fondly remember Premier John Horgan. (Yes, Angus did stick his tongue in the Premier's ear in front of the news cameras.) Thank you for your service sir. Rest easy.

Does your dog have a job?

Handsome “Anton” does! He’s one of a team of special dogs hired to sniff out C. Difficile bacteria in hospitals and care homes.

Created on 11x14” Ampersand Claybord panel with acrylic inks using airbrush and scratchboard techniques.

It’s amazing to see the organic, “in the moment” engagement and conversations the dogs inspire while they work. Regularly, we have patients, family members, nurses, EVS, IPAC and who ever else happens to be around when a dog alerts to a contaminated item/area start talking together about the whys and brainstorm how to make it better. I have not seen any other tool create this type of engagement. It is a one of a kind innovation that cannot be replicated and a must to identify gaps so we all can do better with keeping our hospital environments safe for our patients, staff and visitors. Good is not good enough and we owe them to be excellent!

🔥 NEW EPISODE #105 K9s Talking Scents Podcast Bio Detection Dogs with Lale Aksu

Lale Aksu, a trainer of C. difficile detection dogs, discusses the importance of using dogs to search for C. diff in hospital environments. C. difficile is a bacteria that can cause severe diarrhea and is a hospital-acquired infection. The dogs are trained to detect the presence of C. diff in the environment, such as on surfaces and in the air.

Lale explains the training process, the different strains of C. diff that the dogs are trained on, and the success rate of the program. She also discusses the challenges of training C. diff dogs and the rewards and markers used in training. Cameron Ford discusses the operational utilization of bio-detection dogs in hospitals, specifically for detecting C. diff. He explains that the dogs are trained to search areas such as supply rooms and storage rooms, but not patient rooms unless they are terminally cleaned. Ford also addresses the issue of false alerts and emphasizes the importance of reading and understanding the dog's behavior. He highlights the benefits of using bio-detection dogs in hospitals, including cost savings and improved infection control practices. However, he notes that the lack of exposure and support from some hospitals hinders the widespread acceptance of this resource.

I can’t believe Angus is 10yrs old today!! It took me a bit to post this today because I’m in a bit of denial. 🤷‍♀️

Happy Birthday to my Super Sniffer! He’ll never understand the impact he has made. His image and story has been shared on every continent, he’s been in 4 documentaries and 3 books. Angus the diva loves nothing more than posing for cameras and having his photo taken, except maybe being a food ninja 🥷 and stealthily stealing food. He is one of a kind and I love him. ❤️

Angus sends slurpy kisses to Aunty Lâle for his new stuffy & treats. He says he is definitely not sharing especially with that pushy Chica dog or the little twerp Disco.

"Everybody was Kung-fu fighting" .. well not everybody.
Arrow was completely surprised by the moves that the little cocker suddenly pulled. Like a reincarnated Kung-Fu master, her friend jumped into the air, balancing the ball on his right front paw, before grabbing it with his mouth.
Where in the world did he learn those secrets moves? It was at that point Arrow realized that she was at his mercy and that the days of her beating him up were over.
