With Valentines Day here💘 we’d like to take a moment to remind everyone on this lovely day of the possible hazards that can be a danger to your furry friends
- Any chocolate but especially dark chocolate is a big NO for any type of animal. Though we may love it, their little bodies are not made to consume it and in worst case can be fatal. Always remember the higher the cocoa percentage, the higher the concern!
- Stick to roses this year as your flower of choice🌹
Many spring flowers and bulbs can be extremely toxic, possibly affecting the liver, kidneys, blood pressure and more. Keep this in mind year round when bringing plants home!
- All candies should be kept away from animals but especially any containing xylitol🍬Xylitol is a sugar substitute that when eaten in larger quantities can affect blood sugar, sometimes leading to seizures, liver issues and worst cases can be fatal.
- Candles can be a hazard year round to animals as well as humans so ensure you are keeping a close eye on any open flames and to never leave an open flame unattended🕯️
- Decorations 🎈🧸 Strings, ribbons, balloons, plush toys, plastic, packaging and the list goes on for things that have the possibility of becoming a foreign body in your animals GI tract. Keep that in mind when placing items down and ensure your animal isn’t finding your gifts as a new chew toy!
Lastly, we hope everyone enjoys this day and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to call us at 604-873-4433📞
If any of the above items are ingested or in case of another emergency please call VAERC at 604-879-3737
