🎓 December dogs at Pet To Pal:

1. “Violet” the Australian Labradoodle is doing great! She’s getting better at spending alone time in her crate, she is mastering all her basic obedience, she is walking nicely and did well at daycare too! She’s a star student. He Humans have done a great job with her. Follow along her adventures 🐾

2. “Meeko” is working with us on his resource guarding as well as other problem behaviours. Meeko is demanding, and also fearful. He doesn’t listen when his owners need him to do something and has never really been taught what not-to-do. He’s undergoing a relationship reboot with his family to give him better habits and more structure 🐾

3. “Blue” the cane corso pup is working on all of his obedience as well as relationship building. He lives in a busy house with many people so it’s important that he knows to listen to everyone and build a relationship with everyone individually. He’s getting better with his crate as well, but is still working through his puppy teething stage 🐾

4. “Romeo” is halfway through his program. He’s a few years old, and yes, he had one of his eyes removed. Romeo has a bite history. He’s very fearful, reactive, and has resource guarding towards his crate, his humans, his toys, etc. His family followed a popular positive only trainer during his puppyhood and are now realizing that they never taught him what NOT to do. So we are implementing structure, clear boundaries, expectations, and sharpening the relationship with them again. He’s not all the way there yet, but week by week he’s making good progress 🐾

5. “Riley” the cockapoo is adorable, and such a teachers pet whenever I’m there! She is super food motivated and works great! She’s already doing much better in the crate overnight and is now learning to like her alone time during the day as well 🐾

6. “Rambo” is a rambunctious Maltipoo pup! He’s a really good learner, and once we get his brain activated he’s very well behaved. But he’s also very mischievous and is learning bite inhibition - which can be a challenging process when he has sharp little razor blades in there! But he’s making good progress 🐾

🎓🐾 Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Lucy” the cockapoo is working on her crate training, house training, appropriate chewing, and her basic commands. Working on limiting her living space until she’s more trustworthy to gain more freedom

2. “Rocket” is a Bernese mountain dog pup. He’s already big and strong, and with a young child in the family it’s important to have our dog be able to settle and relax whenever we need to. His family is working on building a calm mindset for him

3. “Charlie” is a roughly 1.5 yr old German shepherd. His new family adopted him from the shelter. Charlie is very fearful, which leads to quite a bit of fear reactivity. Especially because he’s already so strong, and because he doesn’t have a strong relationship with his new family (yet) this has been tough to manage. As we continue to give him clear structure, obedience, and relationship building - along with confidence building he will make good progress

4. “Apollo” the Doberman puppy is working on his engagement. He’s very easily distracted, and also a bit of a Velcro dog. He’s a very sweet pup who’s still learning to use his legs and get coordinated, and working on confidence building to new textured & surfaces since he’s scared of the wood & tile in his house.

5. “Monty” the teacup Morkie is 3 years old. Monty has a bite history, and tried to bite me many times during our first 2 sessions. We worked on his resource guarding, relationship building, place / structure, changing his equipment, and implementing more reward and more correction so we can clearly communicate behaviours we like and don’t like. By lesson 3 we had a breakthrough! He didn’t try to bite at all, I was able to work directly with him and he was seeking praise and touching. He’s not out of the woods yet but he’s making good progress

6. “Coco” the Malshi was very nervous when we started but warmed up pretty quickly when she saw the games we were playing and the positive reinforcement she was getting. Coco worked on front door manners, boundaries around the house, and some recall work

🎓 Lately, at Pet To Pal :

1. “Hazel” (Hazelnut) Is a rescue. She’s had a rough go of it. After being rescued she spent 8 months with a foster family before coming to her family now. She also didn’t have enamel on her teeth and needed surgery right away. Hazel is VERY nervous with men. It’s been a struggle for her new Dad to bond with her. She’s taken to the women in the house and the new cat nicely, but the relationship building is still a work in progress 🐾

2. “Milo” is a cane Corso / boxer mix. He’s 3 years old and has a Daschund house mate named Hunter. Milo is a very enthusiastic learner, he just needs a bit more structure and consistency. We worked on front door manners, calmness exercises, walking structure, and some reactivity work. His family is a pleasure to work with 🐾

3. “Kishi” the miniature schnauzer is reactive on walks. For Kishi, this is fear reactivity. He is a Covid dog who would benefit from more structure, neutrality & confidence building. We made some good progress but will look to schedule a follow up session with him to continue working on it 🐾

4. “Lachland” & “Marley” are Havanese. Marley has been at home his whole life, but Lachland is a new addition. They’re getting along really well; but they also rile each other up - I.e the doorbell, seeing other dogs on walks, etc. When we have a multi dog household it’s important to work with each dog individually at first. When they’re both doing well, then integrate them together 🐾

5.

6. “Marlo” the toy poodle did training at pet smart as well as with me. Marlo is a nervous pup, so confidence building & neutrality are of too importance. We went over some housetraining and nipping strategies as well. His confidence did go up lesson to lesson, but more exposure would benefit him 🐾

🎓🐾 Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Musti” the dachsund , master of the puppy dog eyes 🥺 most of the dachsunds I meet I find to be more on the nervous / fearful / anxious side, but Musti is a happy go lucky ball of energy and pretty confident! He is working on his crate training. He’s made big improvements in that aspect. Going from hating the crate, to going in willingly and happily. He’s working on some basic obedience as well as relationship building. We’re going to be continuing with a few more lessons to continue building on his progress 🐾

2. “Ranger” the aussiechon puppy is doing well. His owners are putting in the effort to get him off to a good start. He’s done some private lessons and even participated in a group class as well as a pack walk. We are continuing with more private lessons for him 🐾

3. “Charlie” the mini golden doodle puppy is doing so well! He did great at our first lesson, and then for some reason he was super nervous and fearful for the 2nd lesson. It took some time and patience to let him get comfortable enough to come out of his shell, but by the end we were buddies! He was so excited to see me, giving me kisses and working directly with me, being a star student. He’s still working on his walking but with most of the stuff we’ve went over he’s made good progress 🐾

4. “Arlo” the Malshi puppy is working on his “place” and front door manners. Arlo is a little ball of energy and very food motivated, which helps! He’s working on his puppy problems - nipping, accidents, crate training - as well as prioritizing confidence building, exposure, etc 🐾

5. “Charlie” the Bichon pup was very nervous to start out. We went over strategies for housetraining - we adjusted his setup / where he had access too. We worked on some basics and today by lesson 3 he was comfortable and confident enough to work with me directly without being scared. He did great! He actually surpassed my expectations for his lesson - demonstrating a really strong “stay” as we threw new curveballs at him 🐾

🐾🎓 Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Beau” the Alaskan malamute is 4 years old. He has become reactive on his walks. We worked on giving him more structure, being able to break his fixation, correcting unwanted behaviour, and desensitization. By our 3rd lesson he was barely reacting at all. Even to the point where I had Xena right next to him. Running back and forth for 30 min and he was totally chill. He needs more repetition for it to sink in, but he did great!

2. “Milo” is the middle dog in this pic. Milo is a rescue, he’s almost a year but just got to his forever family recently. His dog-brothers here in the house are pretty well behaved but anytime we introduce a new dog into our pack that can cause an energy adjustment. He’s working on his basic obedience, and giving structure to all the dogs. His humans have been a pleasure to work with.

3. “Zoe” the berneoodle is almost 2 years old. She is a little on the fearful / nervous side. She is a big puller, as well as demanding around the house - counter surfing etc. The walking has improved. We even had an incident at one of our lessons where an aggressive off leash dog charged at us and I got in between and blocked it from getting to her. The last thing she needs is a bad experience while walking in her neighbourhood. Practice makes perfect, and she’s made progress but more practice will help more

4. “Hoodie” the is 10 months old. We worked on front door manners, walking, and communicating to him clearly & effectively when he’s doing something his family doesn’t like. Reward what you like, correct what you don’t!

🎓 Lately, at Pet To Pal:

“Archie” the Chiuhaha was not loving his crate, chewing on the carpet, and I’d nervous with kids. We did some foundational work with him, worked on some walking strategies, relationship building, etc. Archie has a negative association to his leash for some reason, so using it around the house was a challenge for him and this impacted what we were able to work on. His owners are working to change that to a positive one so that we can start using our tools to our advantage for some of the things we want to improve 🐾

“Loki” the French bulldog did great in his 1 on 2 training and then transferred that to doing great in puppy group class as well! He’s a confident little guy and his owners are making a conscious effort to get him off to a good start 🐾

“Missy” the goldendoodle is a rambunctious pup. She’s already big & strong and has picked up some demanding behaviours. Counter surfing, pulling on leash, charging the front door, jumping, nipping, etc. We worked on relationship exercises, calmness, teaching alternative behaviours as well as correcting unwanted behaviours. Missy lives with a family where an elderly meme her walks her regularly, but this has become increasingly difficult and dangerous for her because of how demanding and strong Missy is now. Very important to give our dog structure and clear expectations for our training 🐾

Lately, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Leo” the cockapoo has got quite destructive, chewing on baseboards and stuff around the house. He is a very fearful, nervous dog with separation anxiety. We introduced him to a crate and he is doing great with that now! His walking has shown improvement as well. It took a while for him to warm up to me, but in our last few sessions I’ve seen his personality come out and he’s gotten comfortable with me. We still have a few things to work on with him but he’s getting much better 🐾

2. “Storm” the doberman puppy is working on her basic obedience, desensitization to the world, and relationship building. We adjusted her environment a bit, limiting space so as to limit any destruction and minimize accidents around the home. She is such a cutie and very food motivated which always helps 🐾

3. “Louis” the cockapoo puppy is working on his place command, and working through his teething & nipping. It’s important to use our tools to help set ourselves and our dogs up for success, so utilizing a leash on around the house is helpful. That’s something Louis will start doing in his home as well 🐾

4. “GiGi” the toy poodle is working on not having accidents. Keeping a clear schedule and routine for our dog is a big part of this, as well as not giving too much freedom of the house otherwise our pup will wander off and do it wherever they feel is out of the way. We also worked on some walking exercises with her and engagement as well 🐾

5. “Bentley” the Morkie is 3 years old. His family had spent thousands on a board and train but wasn’t seeing results. Bentley has a bite history. He’s bitten quite a few times, and even bit me at our 1st lesson. By our 3rd session he was giving me kisses and responding beautifully. We started to clearly communicate to him which behaviours earned him rewards, and which ones earned him consequences. We worked on relationship building exercises for his family to do with him and gave him more structure. He’s making great progress! 🐾

Recent 🎓’s at Pet To Pal:

1. “Toby” the Yorkie is working on thresholds. Toby bolts out the door and runs to the sidewalk and up to other dogs / people walking by. This can be extremely dangerous and can lead to potentially fatal consequences. We worked on his impulse control, stay, place, and other front door manners 🐾

2. “Sunny” the golden doodle is 10 months old. He’s generally a good boy, but he gets very exuberant and overstimulated, especially when the grand kids are over and running around. We worked on having him be able to hold his position even when exciting things are going on around him 🐾

3. “Stella” the Havanese is 9 months old. She also tends to bolt out the door and jump on guests so front door manners were a big priority for her as well. We also worked on teaching her leash pressure, and some relationship building exercises as well 🐾

4. “Bailey” the maltese / shihtzhu mix is reactive on walks. It looks like it’s mostly fear reactive, so we worked a lot on desensitization & confidence building. Bailey will also be participating in a group class to help get more exposure & positive associations to other dogs 🐾

Recently, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Max” the cockapoo puppy is doing fantastic! He’s in a busy house so he’s adjusting to the pace. He’s doing well with a lot of his basic, including crate training, accidents, nipping, etc. We’ve now started with some basic obedience with him, as well as prioritizing state of mind - neutrality, confidence building, desensitization & exposure, etc. . His HuMom is asking great questions, engaged in the training, doing research for what’s best for him, and his whole family has been a joy to work with 🐾

2. “Henry” the Maltipoo is working on adding more structure into his routine. This includes crate training, giving him a job - like when someone comes to the door, more walks / training, as well as more exposure to distractions to help desensitized him. He’s made some good progress but we still have more work to do with him 🐾

3. “Cosmo” the Maltipoo pup is adjusting nicely to his new home. He’s getting used to using the turf pad in the backyard since there isn’t any grass. He’s learning to be patient & calm, and he’s very food motivated for his new exercises he’s working on! He’ll also be joining a puppy group class in the next few weeks 🐾

Recently, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Petey” the American bulldog is 10 months old. He’s big and strong, and un neutered. Which isn’t always a big deal, but his drive was high and it made it more challenging to build his food / play drive to motivate him. We did eventually get him to settle a bit. His walking is getting better. He’s working on his leave it / general impulse control, threshold work, pretty drive, etc. i will be doing a follow up with him to continue sharpening up the things he’s learning. His owner has been a genuine pleasure to work with as we explore different options and methods to find what works best for him 🐾

2. “Max” the rescue pup is a poodle mix. His family is all on board, committed to the crate training, relationship building, and establishing the right mind set for the dog. We are simultaneously working on some obedience cues so we can help give him clarity and structure around the house 🐾

3. “Schnitzel” the boston terrier puppy is a ball of energy! (Typical boston .. even though he slept through the first session 😂)
When Schnitzle is engaged and his brain focused on a task, he’s a very quick learner. Repetition is key and practicing over and over, all members of the family, and then eventually in different environments as well 🐾

Recently, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Millie” the pug lives in a more rural area. Her owner installed an invisible fence to help her learn to avoid the road since he gets lots of off leash time. She’s responding well to it. We also worked on basic obedience, nipping strategies and housetraining strategies to set her up for success 🐾

2. “Marley” the cockapoo puppy is off to a fantastic start! Her owners had already started putting in the work before our sessions started so we were able to build on all of that quickly. She is such a sweet girl and a quick learner. We’re starting to teach her boundaries, house manners, leash pressure, etc. Looking forward to continued progress with her 🐾

3. “Chloe” the Maltipoo puppy is doing good with her crate training and her basics. She has recently started barking at dogs / people on her walks. Chloe lives right beside a busy park so there’s always lots of organic distractions. This can make training more difficult early on but it can also be a great opportunity to practice! She is going to be working on neutrality and desensitization next 🐾

Recently, at Pet To Pal:

1. “Khalua” the German shepherd doesn’t like her crate. We started with building a positive association to it. She also lives at a house without a backyard gate to the front yard, so she has bolted out to the street and chased people running by a few times. For all dogs, but especially for dogs in a situation like this, thresholds, boundaries, desensitization is super important! It can literally be life or death. Make sure you’re practicing these things with your dog! 🐾

2. “Cody” the poodle is 8 months old. He is very demanding when he wants attention. We worked on building a calm mindset for him, giving him more structure, implement impulse control, and giving strategies for loose leash walking. Cody has made great progress! And he continue to further his training 🐾

3. “Hugo” the terrier puppy is reactive on walks. After some exploring we determined it’s fear reactivity. Which means a confidence building and desensitization is key for him. With that being said, lots of practice is not only important, it’s a necessity 🐾

COCKAPOOS!!

1. “Frankie” the cockapoo is off to a good start with his family. He’s well behaved, learning his fundamentals, building his relationship, and generally doing really well 🐾

2. “Ace” the cockapoo is a little fiery and reactive, even at an early age. He is persistent, and after some exploring I feel its more so fear reactivity. Some confidence building, neutrality, and desensitization will do him good. Ace was in our puppy group class as well. He did ok in there and made some progress, but truthfully he still has a little ways to go. Confidence building is not a quick / easy process but is so important! Obedience cues can always be taught later, but confidence a a really important skill for your pup to develop. If you’re working on this with your dog, don’t get discouraged! It’s a process and it takes time 🐾

3. “Leo” the cockapoo is working on his loose leash walking. Seeing other dogs is a big stimulus for him. He also lives in a very busy area, and he likes to sit and stare out the window and bark. This requires management of the environment at first, and then implementing training techniques to correct unwanted behaviour and build alternative behaviours that we want instead 🐾
