Whispering Willow Acres

Whispering Willow Acres 3 sisters got inspired by 2 horses to do something they love doing, sharing their passion with others

Whispering Willow Acres was created by three sisters to help keep rural life and farm life alive while doing something they truly love. All three of us grew up with horses and helping out on their grandpa's farm. We created this page to keep people up to date on what's happening with Whispering Willow Acres and to post any services or sale items that may be available (horses, tack, etc.) An introd

uction to the three sisters...

Jessica took her degree in Rangeland and Wildlife Resources at the University of Alberta. She now has a family of get own and they farm both grain and cattle. She has been involved with training miniature horses and Clydesdales. Was a member of 4-H both in the Beef club and Draft horse project where she learnt many skills she still uses today. Her goal is to continue on raising horses and cattle while promoting good pasture management and environmental protection. She is striving to raise cattle that 4H members can use while creating a female that is quiet and raises a heck of a calf. Savanna is just finishing up get certificate in OH&S and is ready to go do some auditing. She grew up in the 4-H Light Horse Club where she fine tuned her riding abilities and today she still loves riding and working with saddle horses. She has helped her big sister around the ranch with the horses and likes to help her grandpa with the young horses. She owns her own working cow horse and would like to continue to work on her cattle skills and continue on in the working cow horse world. Stephanie finished up her business diploma and has been working steady since. She grew up riding her little pony Two-bits and could be found tagging along with her sister for a ride. She also has been a strong member in 4-H both in the light horse club, sheep club and outdoor club. She has always loved the outdoors and enjoys every moment spent outside. She enjoys every aspect of the farm life and helps her sisters out both by driving horses and going out for rides. Her baby cow Cora is all grown up now and she gets to come for frequent visits to the farm to see her and all the baby calves. All three sisters want to see their farm grow and want to promote strong Rangeland Stewardship to protect the natural landscape while holding onto the farm life. They want to promote many different livestock breeds from Miniature Horses, Quarter Horses, Clydesdales, Sheep and Commercial Cattle while staying local in the Vermilion area.

Today was the big day for Seamus—his coming-of-age vet visit! As Bob Barker always said, 'Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.' While Seamus isn’t exactly a pet, it’s all about setting him up to keep his mellow cool attitude. 😎

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men, women, horses, dogs amd pigeons who served our country. Their courage and sacrifice allow us the freedom to work the land, raise our families, and live our lives in peace. As we farm and tend to our animals, we are grateful for those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy every day. Lest we forget.

What a whirlwind of a fall day on the farm!

We sent nine calves off to their new 4H families, bringing our total to 10 this season. It’s always exciting to see them move on to their new homes, but today was bittersweet as we also said goodbye to Bandit. This guy has been such a character around here, and while we’ll miss him, we couldn’t be happier knowing he’s off to be adored by a horse-crazy little girl. He’s in for all the love he can handle! 🥰

And Nugget, well, he had a big day of his own. It’s time for him to be weaned, so he’s now joining his dad, Sequoia, to start learning how to be a big boy. Life on the farm keeps moving, and these moments—though tough—are what make it all so rewarding!

There are still a few more fancy 4H type steers and heifers up for grabs this fall. Have a look at the photos and if you see one that catches your eye just ask all are March-May born ( #32 blue tag steer was born Feb) We also have some smaller freezer filler type steers or carcass project type calves.

They will be weaned hopefully early October and ready to go after vaccine boosters and halters on, etc. Any with horns will be dehorned before leaving the property.

All cows are quiet and easy to work with. Have been culled hard for temperament and fertility.

It's that time again to start thinking of 4H projects *more calves pictured and added*

We have a number of nice steers and heifers again that will be on offer private treaty to 4H members and those looking to raise a beef for the freezer. Calves will be weaned in October, pail fed, vaccinated and halters put on.

End of March to April born, Simmental influence with some Charolais Crosses and Angus Crosses. All are out of quiet mommas and most calves turn out quiet too.

Message of you see one that catches your eye.

Now that the dust of the Vermilion Fair has settled we have found time to go check on how the cows were doing. Can't help but admire some of the calves we found last night while checking.

I would like to express my gratitude to Delaney's Veterinarian Services for the care they gave our dear Nugget. Following a scary colic episode, he appears to be recovering and feeling better. I am excited about this colt's promising future.
