Introducing our gal Remi, with the most expressive ears around!

Thank you .canine for the referral on this girl.

Remi will be with us for the next 3 weeks working on some pretty intense reactivity, her mom would like to have more neutrality with other dogs, be able to go hiking with other dogs, to be able to take her camping and to the beach. To be able to listen to commands even if she’s reacting. Get some loose leash walking going, among a few other goals.

This girl has some big big emotions around other dogs while she is on leash, so we will be working on calming that nervous system, offering her other ways to release her frustration, and getting her in a hopeful more positive mind set. Remi has been with us for 3 days now, and I can tell her stress levels are high, even when there is nothing going on, so getting her to relax and reset (even though it was moms last goal) we have to move it to first, because before we can really get into her reactivity we have to calm her down internally first.

>> Assessment with Finley!

I am a little late to posting but that’s okay! This friendly handsome fella, is struggling with some reactivity only right around their house with other dogs, when he was young he was rudely approached by an off leash little senior fluffy grump, and it has cause some residual feelings for him around his home.

She also struggles with being extremely friendly to new people, pulling on leash & lack of engagement.

So hopefully we can help change that mindset for him & create some better walks for this duo in the neighborhood!

>> Congratulations to Reggie & Family for completing our 3 week stay and train program!

Absolutely am so proud of how confident Reggie has become in such a short amount of time. When he first arrived he didn’t want to walk anywhere without some sort of fear and being unable to walk through it, he wanted to back out physically and when he couldn’t he would use his mouth for more of a solid approach, which would work in his favour, creating a self-rewarding behaviour.

He now can potty on leash (he couldn’t before, he was way too scared), he can now walk through anything, with very mini fear. He now has a better source of communication when it comes to basic commands, not chasing the cats & more!

I cannot wait to see this guy continue to grow and improve on his skills daily!

>>> Welcoming all the new daycare kids!!

Thank you to everyone who saw the opening and scooped them up within 24 hours! That’s so incredible.
We are officially taking another waitlist, please dm me with your preferred days of the week to make it on the list.

Daycare is a Tuesday - Friday program, $40 per dog, with an extra option of training for $25. All new daycare kids will be required to have training to their day for the first month.

Again, I couldn’t do any of this without your on going support.

>> Hours of messages and emails have changed!

I have been trying to figure out what the best plan of action is for my mental health around messages and emails. I tend to finish my physical work day and then jump right into the inbox, or even first thing after I grab my coffee in the morning - meaning I truly am mentally and physically working all hours I am awake. How bad for my mental health is that..?!

So I have decided, during our actual work day is when we will be in touch via email, time to pet or instagram messages regarding our services. If you have an urgent message from Saturday-Sunday-Monday please don’t hesitate to put in the caption * Urgent * or to text me, I will respond to urgency!

Please do your absolute best at respecting these times, as it will help me really truly stick to them. I appreciate all of you, so so much, and I appreciate you all for helping me find this balance.

>> Does this guy make you think “hmm I know that dog”… well you would be half right, introducing Kolt’s littermate and brother, Nelson to our 3 week stay and train program.

This stay and train is much more near to my heart than all my other ones because I know his roots, and I have his biological brother in my life everyday, what an honour to be able to help lead the path for Nelson.

Nelson will be with us for 21 days, really putting his mind to the test and hopefully making waves in his training journey.

This guy is here to work on, leash skills, reactivity to dogs & people, confidence building, settling with unwanted things around (guests & other dogs), recall and more.

>> Assessment with these two sisters!

I am a little late to posting as we had our first training session this Saturday and let’s just say the girls absolutely rocked it!
Both girls struggle with reactivity and taking their mom for a ride on their walks, barking at people coming in the door & guarding their mom.

It’s crazy to think both of these gals are from the same litter but their personalities are so different when it comes to training, it’s just a big reminder to train the dog in front of you and give them exactly what they need at the pace they need.

I am looking forward to our other sessions with these girls!

>> Introducing Monday Pack Hikes with Mady!

Mady will be starting to run pack hikes on Mondays only! We will be picking up your dog for a fun one hour adventure and then dropping them back off at home exhausted and mentally enriched.

This program will be $40 per dog + $25 for second dog in the same household.

We will be hiking on rented private property, guaranteeing an hour of off leash fun! We are required to have your dog off leash reliable, so one call recall is a must. Reactive dog friendly, and all method friendly.

>>> It’s been a couple of years so I thought I would reintroduce myself!

Hi, Hey, Hello! My name is Taylor, most of my friends call me Lor, you are welcome to as well. I am about to be 29, and I have been in the dog industry since 2017 working at a doggy daycare to veterinary clinic, pack hiker, trainer in training to owning and operating Penny’s Pals since 2022.

My education stems from online courses, experience, shadowing many trainers, seminars and self taught. When I was younger I always knew I would work with animals but always thought I would be in the medical side, but turns out that was way harder than I expected. Now I specialize in reactivity… why you ask! Because the very first dog I ever got, I was 19 years old and walked out of the SPCA with an aggressive dog, but I wasn’t notified he was, he seemed fine in the shelter and little did I know he was far from fine.

That lead me to fostering many dogs, over 20 at this point until we found Penny, who instantly stole my heart and here we are, naming a business after her. She taught me so much more than my first dog, she’s what I call secretly selective, her body language will tell you but for most people it’s very hard to pick up.

She really turned the tables for me in terms of learning about reactivity & how I could help others. We created Penny’s Pals over 2 years ago now, and I have been able to help more dogs than I ever dreamed possible, and continuing to be able to change the ways for many dogs it’s like a dream come true.

Now we have 4 amazing beautiful dogs, that have helped shape and guide me along this journey in helping you find grounding in your reactive journey.

Dude is our newest trial for boarding. She is spunky, full of excitable energy & a whole lot of joy. I am looking forward to having Dude come for her vacation away from home soon!

>> We now have a new booking program for pre-existing clients all new clients will have to inquire via email and be added to the system!

With the new system you can do the following:
> Chat with myself & Mady
> Request boarding dates
> Request extra daycare days

To help me keep organized, this will be the way we will do scheduling from now on. Once you get an email notification about being added to the software please add your pet, especially if you have two dogs, it is very helpful for all bookings!

>> Welcoming Reggie to our 3 week Stay & Train

* Due to owner privacy his name is changed & there will be no updates on my stories of his progress showing him, but I am happy to tell you how things are going *

Reggie and I went on our first walk together and it safe to say he is the most insecure dog I have seen in awhile, he is always looking for a way out, his body is always tight and tucked. He is terrified, which has resulted in him lashing out to his people in a form of defence.

While he’s here we will be working on :
> Loose leash walking
> Confidence building
> Ecollar training
> Guidance through terrifying moments
&More!

We are currently booking for August for our next Stay & Train student.

>> Congratulations to Meeko, Parker & Rachel!

During this program I actually questioned a few times “why is Meeko even here, he’s such a good boy”.
- Ecollar trained ✔️
- Place trained ✔️
- Leash skills ✔️

But what was his biggest struggle, was settling, handler engagement and direction, excitable reactivity with lots of whining & whining in general.

So we worked on proofing downs, our structured heel, settling in various different environments, going into various different environments, rewarding all the offered engagement we possibly could. And now he’s leaving with more tools in his belt to continue being the best boy!

Thank you Rachel and Parker for trusting with your boy & coming all the way from Seattle. 🐾

>> Crap, you guys filled my calendar, which means only one thing! Adding in another spot! We will now be taking 2 Stay & Train students at a time going forward.

Mady had started her apprenticeship here with us, which means she will be starting some of the training, along side my help with guidance, so having two stay and train students is now more doable than ever!

Now opening a second spot a month for our board and train program. We currently have 1 spot for March & 1 spot in April, and then we are booking into August! But you guys fill my calendar so fast, it’s best to get your spot in the program as quickly as possible.

>>> Finally introducing the man of the hour! Manu! 🎉

Many originally signed up for our 4 week stay and train program and has now completed 2/4 weeks, since working with Manu, I knew immediately that his nervous system was shot, and also in a state of repetition where his nervous system didn’t know how to be anything but tense. Since working with him I have also suspected some blindness & lower back pain. This with his other behaviour struggles we extended him to 6 weeks of stay and train.

What we have and we’ll be continuing to work on:
> Resource Guarding
> Reactivity
> Calming the nervous system
> Follow through on commands
> Confidence building
> Respecting boundaries & more!

A message from Mady
“ I am so excited to be joining the Pennys Pals team!

Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up always having family dogs around and when I moved out I got a job in a grooming salon as a dog bather so I could still get my dog “fix”, until I adopted my own pup Ronnie!

Ronnie challenged everything I thought I knew about owning a dog. He was a perfect angel in the house but his reactivity made taking him anywhere a huge challenge. After meeting Taylor at a community pack walk, I signed Ronnie up for a 3 week board and train that completely changed our lives and made me want to learn everything I possibly could about dog training!

From there I signed Ronnie and I up for every class I possibly could, from basic obedience to dog sports and I changed my career from hotel management to working full time with dogs as a pack hike leader.

Last summer my partner and I adopted Honey into our family. She is the polar opposite of Ronnie and has already taught me so much about sensitive dogs.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone’s pups, continuing to learn from Taylor and help other dogs and owners on their training journey! “

Meeko comes all the way from Seattle Washington to partake in our 3 week stay and train program.

This little low riding cutie is struggling with:

And as an extra bonus his mom would love for me to assess if he would make a good candidate for service dog work - although it’s not our specialty I have been around the block a few times with service dog work & can help with some training, guidance & potential prospects.

•• Crate training is such an asset to a dogs life •• Crate training your dog can prevent so many things from happing, like: ➡️ Keeping your dog from eating furniture, the walls, doors and other naughty ➡️ Keeping your dogs separation anxiety low ➡️ Keeping your dog out of harms way ➡️ Allowing your dog to fully rest ➡️ Great for injury recovery And so much more. Striker is not crate trained but we have slowly been getting him more comfortable with the idea, when he is really stressed we put him in there and he travels in a kennel while we are driving, this just shows that over that small amount of time the crate has grown a massive appreciation, where he feels safe. Don’t just think crates are cruel, because they aren’t. They are an amazing tool used by many dog owners, by groomers and your veterinarians.
