With summer temperatures rising there are a few things to note.

Hikes may be abbreviated or cancelled if it is not safe due to heat. We go low, slow and take shaded breaks. Our water spots are mainly dried up, we always carry a water bottle on hand but need to return to the vehicle for a proper refresher.

Some days pick up may be earlier than usual to beat the heat, if you have a hike on this day you will be contacted.

Heatstroke signs in dogs appear as red gums/tongue, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, distressed panting/drooling, lethargy, collapse and more.

Dogs more at risk for heatstroke include brachycephalic (flat faced) breeds, young/senior dogs, thick coated, pre-existing medical conditions and overweight dogs.

Please also note that foxtail/speargrass are thriving right now, we always check the pups over after their hike but make sure to double check yourself! Foxtail can latch onto your dogs coat and borrow into the skin, causing infection and more serious issues.
