Charlotte and Hazel🥹

Charlotte came into our care when she was a piglet, over 7 years ago, along with her brother Charlie. A few months later we were asked, by the BC SPCA, to take Hazel because she wasn’t able to fine an adoptive home. As you can imagine, we were thrilled to unite Hazel with her daughter and son!

Family is so important for pigs and we are so grateful they are able to live their lives together in as a herd. ❤️

Today we submitted our mortgage application which is the final step in obtaining A Forever Home for Hooves! Also, we are extremely excited to share that we have raised 2.35 million of the 3 million purchase price.

Look at these two! 😍

When Annabelle (black pig) came into our care, our plan was to have her become bunk mates with Esme. Companionship is so important for pigs because they are a herd animal, but if you know Esme, she’s not a typical pig due to an unknown genetic disorder. Esme is only 70 pounds, at almost 2 years of age, when she should be a 500 to 600 pound Yorkshire.

As you can see, Esme has giant ears, so we needed a pig friend who would not want to fight with her because her ears would sustain significant injury in a pig fight! This is why we took Annabelle because she was still a baby and she would not try to assert dominance over Esme.

These girls are two peas in a pod and we couldn’t be more happy about it. Also, Esme has always been very hyperactive and having Annabelle by her side has influenced a much more calm demeanour in her.

Lu Lu is currently in foster care with the same foster mom who cared for Cyrus and currently cares for Ollie.

Lu Lu is morbidly obese and has several pounds to shed. We were told she was on a “bachelor’s diet” and her favorite food is pizza. “Human food” is not an appropriate diet for pigs, and it leads to health complications that take months or years for us to remedy.

Niko and I shared lots of memories after 10 days together but today we part ways.

It’s such an honour to care for animals and earn their trust. It’s hard not to get attached. 🤍
