Did you know that Elvis had a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that was featured in his 1961 movie, "Blue Hawaii"?

Corgis have played roles in movies for decades! What other ones do you know about?

What is YOUR pet's Elf Name?

Here at Arbutus Corgis, we have the gift of sharing a home with the Corgis - Snowy Sparklesnoot & Cookie McToebeans - and the other two non-Corgis - Fuzzy Sweetiekins & Gumball Slobberton. We can't forget the cat as well! She is now known as Zoomy Slobberton. 😂

These two sweethearts are the apples of my eyes!

Fable, now 15 months old, has turned out to be the "burnt toast" spitting image of her mother, Luna. Her personality is SO endearing!

Gryphon is 4 months old and nearly as big as Fable is already. He's going to be a CHONK! Smart as a whip and sweet as pie, he's really got all the good things going for him!

The personality description is on point! 😂

Factoid: Two Corgis – Two Breeds

Though they share the word, “Corgi” in their names, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi are two distinct breeds with different origins: The Cardigan originated with the Teckel family of dogs, while the Pembroke originated with the Spitz and Finnish families.

There was a time in England, however, when for a very brief time, the Cardigan Welsh Corgis and Pembroke Welsh Corgis were interbred because they were considered one breed divided into two types. The Kennel Club (England’s version of the AKC) even had them listed in its studbook as a single breed which allowed the two types to be crossed. This error was amended in 1934 when after years of vigorous complaints by the frustrated breeders of each, the Kennel Club finally listed them as the two very distinct breeds they are. The catalyst for this move may have been formed years earlier when the English Cardigan Welsh Corgi Association was organized in 1926. After nine years of protests and lobbying by breeders, fanciers, and the club itself, the Kennel Club separated the two breeds in 1934 as they should have been from the beginning. This undoubtedly helped influence the AKC to also admit the two as separate breeds.

It’s difficult to imagine that the two were ever thought of as anything other than two very distinct breeds they are. The Cardigan has a longer body, slightly heavier bones, larger and rounder ears at the tips, rounder feet that tend to point outwards, and of course, a tail. The Pembroke’s ears are erect, firm, and taper slightly to a rounded point, and his more oval shaped feet generally point straight forward. Differences extend to temperaments, as well. When inquiring about the distinctions between the two breed personalities, we were once told that a Cardigan Welsh Corgi could be seen as the friendly but reserved butler greeting party guests at the door, while the Pembroke would be swinging on a chandelier reciting b***y limericks to the other party goers.

For anyone who struggles to tell the two apart, here’s a nemonic device: A cardigan sweater has long sleeves. Remember that the Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a long tail.

Thank you, Zora's Corgis, for blessing me with the gift of raising our beautiful co-owned boy. Gorgeous inside and out, he's the perfect addition to an already amazing team.

Gryphon 😍

I could not feel more blessed to have raised this pup, and have him as an addition to my program (in co-ownership with Arbutus Corgis). He is exceeding all my expectations in looks and temperament. So grateful for him, his mother Jazzy (living her best life with ), and Regal from Three Hearts Pembroke Welsh Corgis 🙏💕🦊

"Gryphon" - Zora's Corgis What A Wonderful World at Arbutus

Our keeper boy from Jazzy x Regal!

Arbutus Corgis have been blessed with the ability to bring this stunning boy home to raise as a part of our shared breeding program with Zora's Corgis.

As this is Jazzy's last litter, we really wanted to keep her namesake alive with her pups. Originally dubbed "Louis" (Armstrong), his registered name will be a favourite song title that is well known to so many - What A Wonderful World. We added Arbutus to the end in order to combine both kennel names in this lovely shared boy.

As many know, my foundation girl is named Fable, and I really wanted this boy's call name to represent something worthy of Legend and Myth. What better than a mighty Gryphon?

The surname Gryphon is derived from pet-forms of the Middle Welsh name Gruffudd, which was borne by many Welsh princes. Goodness knows, this boy is going to be treated as such!

We are so excited to see how he develops!✨🦊💕

We're thrilled to be able to share our great news! Louis is joining our pack as a co-owned stud prospect, and we couldn't be happier!

As mentioned in the original post, Louis has a CLEAR Embark panel, meaning he does not express or carry DM, vWD, EIC, or PRA-rcd3. When he is old enough, we will also test for CAER/OFA eyes, and PennHIP.

Arbutus Corgis and Zora's Corgis (https://www.facebook.com/zorascorgis) both believe in genetic testing all of our breeding dogs to ensure a lifetime of health and happiness in our future puppy homes!

Huge thanks going out to Zora's Corgis for entrusting this wee boy to me to raise as our future "stud muffin", and to Three Hearts Pembroke Welsh Corgis (https://www.facebook.com/threeheartscorgis) for allowing us to use Regal to sire this litter.🥰🥰🥰

The genetic results are back, and we will be officially welcoming Louis to our program (as a co-own with Arbutus Corgis in Victoria) as a stud prospect! Louis has a CLEAR Embark panel, meaning he does not express or carry DM, vWD, EIC, or PRA-rcd3. When he is old enough, we will also test for CAER/OFA eyes, and PennHIP. If all goes well, he will be able to be crossed with any of our current females when he matures.

We are so excited to be bringing these bloodlines into our program 😍 thank you to Three Hearts Pembroke Welsh Corgis for blessing us with Regal's lines.

LOST IN DUNCAN - 2000 block of BUCKINGHAM RD (Herd Rd & Lakes Rd area)
This is Fable's mother. She is away from home staying with relatives, and has gone missing. She is microchipped!

🩵🩵🩵We just got word that there’s still lots of posters out for Luna in the area. There was an amazing team out there searching for her. If there’s any good folks that can get some of the posters down and recycle them please that would be awesome. Luna’s mom is still away, and Carey lives in Vancouver.

Thank you in advance 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
