ISO of small animals fosters!

If you’ve been thinking about adopting a small animal, here’s your chance to try out caring for one (or a few).

We’ve also had classrooms apply to foster which is a helpful alternative to purchasing classroom pets. This program also gives students exposure to local charities, a chance to connect with their community and learn about different types of animals.

Please fill out an application at gvacrescue.ca if you’re interested in fostering or adopting a small animal. Please message or email with any questions.

We wanted to do a quick shout out to all the people who bought prezies for our cats and small animals this Holiday season! We’re so blessed. Thank you also to those that purchased ornament wishes from Bosley's on Burnside and Bosley's Eagle Creek. Our animals were very fortunate.

Happy New Year everyone.

It’s a new start today for these gorgeous white bunnies found in the woods by a concerned neighbour by Duncan. They are in pretty bad shape physically so we are working at de-matting and treating their wounds now. Stay tuned for an update in a few days.

These buns will stay in care for a while as we are unsure if any have been mated. Please reach out if you are interested in fostering or adopting.

Meet Me Monday - Adoptable Milo & Skippy

This bonded pair have had quite the adventure to get where they are. This story involves a bear, tragedy and a very long car ride.

Let’s start with Milo; we don’t know how he ended up outside in a cat carrier in Port Alberni, or where he was that a bear could wander up without someone noticing but that is where his story begins. Poor Milo was left at the whims of this bear who thankfully was unable to capture him. After this encounter, he hid outside for 3 days before the staff at the SPCA could get him. As you can imagine, he is a bit spooked from this whole experience and takes a bit to warm up. He loves food and his brother Skippy, who he will coo at to communicate. He appreciates slow movements and will gratefully accept pets. He has found comfort in his adoptive brother’s companionship.

Skippy has a much more pleasant beginning. His origin story starts at Valley Cats Rescue in Port Alberni. He was adopted in early 2024. He is a typical orange cat - adventurous, playful and curious about EVERYTHING. Him and Milo share a love of playing in boxes.

Sadly their mom experienced a big change in her life and reached out to Alley Cats to surrender them this winter. As with many rescues right now, Alley Cats was full but reached out to other rescues who might have a spot for them. That’s where we came in. We recently had a foster open up after their long term diabetic foster of 13 YEARS passed away. Not only did they offer their home to Milo and Skippy but they offered to do the long drive up to Port Alberni to retrieve them!

So Milo and Skippy began their journey to Victoria to start their new lives. These boys are incredibly resilient and have quickly settled into their foster. We could never separate them after all they have been through so we are looking for the perfect home to adopt them together. You get the best of both worlds with a full of beans cat (Skippy) and professional couch napper (Milo). They are both young and have full lives ahead of them. They are up to date on vaccines, neutered and just waiting for their home to come along.

If you have room in your home for two, please consider this bonded pair. Bonus: we know they get along AND they’re past their kitten stage. If you are interested, adoption applications can be found at gvacrescue.ca

Meet Me Monday - the Jungle Book Litter

This family of 6 came into care through our OOPS program. Their owner got mama from a friend and didn’t know she was already pregnant! 🙊 As part of our OOPS program, once mama weans her kittens we will spay her before returning her to her home.

So far it looks like we have 4 girls and 1 boy. Please help us think of the female characters from the Jungle Book! The kittens are 2 weeks old yet and they have just opened their eyes 👀 They will be ready for adoption around the beginning of February.

Donations allow us to continue doing what we do! Programs like the OOPS program, are so needed in the community so if this is something that is important to you - please consider donating or participating in one of our fundraisers.
