Happy Sunday! We’d like to introduce you to the Little Miss, LAIKA!Spayed female, 6 kilos, approximately 4 years. WILD GUESS at Breed: Spaniel/Poodle/Aussie/ChihuahuaIN VICTORIA, B.C. Laika has been in Victoria, BC, decompressing since mid January. This little lady is extremely sensitive and was quite timid and fearful when she arrived but has grown to really love her current foster and the other five dogs in the household. She is very playful with other dogs. She loves, more than anything, going for walks and just being close to you in the home, often snuggling up to you on the sofa. She displays some excitement reactivity when seeing other dogs but we have been working on distraction. She’s a real sniffer and explorer. We think she's a smart cookie and could learn tricks/agility if her guardian was up to it. Ideally, we would like anyone interested in adoption to spend at least a couple of weeks getting to know her, and for her to trust, before moving on to her permanent home. That would mean coming to spend time with her and walking her for a transition period. She had to get over a lot of challenges in the last couple months (possibly from past trauma) so we think a fast move might set her back somewhat. Not sure, but we think she prefers female humans. Children would be too unpredictable for Laika. Could be okay with cats. Laika has had some trauma around being handled and does not do well with being pressured to greet humans. Anyone who adopts this girl must have patience and understand how to go slow in her introductions to new things, as she can get overwhelmed easily. If you have a calm, easy-going, routine home that can take a little bit of a project, you will be greatly rewarded. As you get to know Laika you will see how sweet and loving she is. For more information or if you’d like to ask more about Laika please email [email protected] or message us through here. Adoption info and application is on the website www.mex-ca
Got these three adoptable dogs out for nice walk today. Bodo, Laika and Poncho are in Victoria BC and their bios are on the website. Please read about them carefully before sending your Application for Adoption. Info on veterinary protocols and adoption process is also there. Www.mex-can.org.
Puppies are growing and full of beans!

Bodo and Helix playdate. Bodo is still waiting for his awesome home to come along. www.mex-can.org
Here’s a little update on the two dogs found a couple weeks ago. I’m calling them Callie and Jon, because they were found in a “callejon” (get it?😝). Jon is the beige scruffy fella and is very leery and will hide if given the chance. He seems to want to receive scritches but will come close, then run away. Callie (black with white short haired) and is much more confident and would probably do best as an only dog for success as she has some “dominant “ behaviours. They’ve both received their first vaccine.
Look who’s back ☹️ BODO! I’m feeling pretty defeated, trying to stay optimistic, while dreading the thought that this guy may end up being another “permanent “ dog and therefore make my returning to Mexico a near impossibility. UGH! So, why was he returned this time? What did I miss in their application and meet and greet? 25 years of doing this and I’m still stunned and disappointed in people. On the other hand, is there a way more awesome home out there for this guy? Well, I wish you’d appear because I’m growing weary and Bodo really needs more attention than I can give him. So, the reason for his return was that “he’s too small, they are used to bigger dogs, he’s more like a cat and not needy enough”. Fair enough, they want in their words “ a Labrador or Golden Retriever personality”. I encourage people to think hard about what they are looking for in a dog. Moving them around from one place to another does not help their case. I do think Bodo is happy being back because he has his doggy friends here, there’s that ❤️. Read his bio on the website and share please. It’s time this guy found his perfect person. No kids, no cats. Www.mex-can.org
Patsy, the senior dog rescued a few months ago ( and still hoping for a forever home), has taken well to the shenanigans of the puppies. ❤️ they’re spending more time with her and next they will be introduced to some of the other adults dogs.
PLEASE if you are curious about the bios, adoption process, application or fees go to our website www.mex-can.org
Sunday night Pupdate! The four females found 15 days ago are getting their first vaccine tomorrow.
They don’t look too stressed after the flight and many changes! They’ve had supper and a couple hours to romp. Now it’s bedtime. They’re all tucked in for the night.
These guys don’t looked too stressed after their long ride from Guanajuato to Puerto Vallarta. 👍🏼 They will spend the night in a comfortable home thanks to super hosts Michele and Eric. Tomorrow they get on their big flight to Victoria, BC, with many thanks to flight volunteer Maya, where some lucky families will be meeting them after some decompression with me at home, welcomed by the ever hospitable Agnes and Nella. Once again, muchas gracias to Julia and her copilot Maria for all the driving.
