Victoria Bulldog Walks
My name is Melanie Dry Iโm in love with English & French Bulldogs. I started the VBW group back in 2008 after I got my 1st English Bulldog named Monster. It was to get bulldog owners on Vancouver Island together to meet up and socialize with their bulldogs. After Monster, I next took in Canon an English Bulldog and realized from there was a need to help homeless bulldogs. Iโve volunteered, fostered and helped with multiple other rescues & shelters. Yet since Canon I have taken in homeless bulldogs myself. Each year I take in as many local homeless bulldogs as I can. Majority of the funds come from my own pocket but I do some fundraising to help with medical & food bills of the bulldogs. Fundraising year round with an account at the Bottle Depot or drop off at my house. We take donations of good used condition household items to sell on are VarageSale & UsedVic account.
Bulldogs can require a lot of medical care due to the common breed health issues. Everything from major respiratory problems, skin allergies, cherry eye, hip dysplasia, degenerative spine disease, face fold dermatitis, heart disease, and tail pocket issues to name a few! So as you can image itโs not cheap dealing with one of these issues but I get bulldogs with multiple issues making each dogs medical bills averaging $500-10,000+ to get all their medical treated & hopefully cured. On top of that all the bulldogs get spayed/neutered, dewormed, flea treated updated on vaccines & fully vet checked. I also do training with the dogs while they are in care & work on diminishing any unwanted behaviours to make them more adoptable.
As part of the Bulldog group we meet up throughout the year at local parks for a walk & play. If you have an English Bulldog or French Bulldog we would love for you to come out and join us at the next walk.
