Today we lost a hero.
In 2012 she arrived at our rescue. Most of you followed her story closely .
She was resilient and strong and above all a good mom to her surviving 5 pups. But she was also grieving the death of 4 of her puppies and I could tell. Sometimes she would leave the room and rest on the couch looking out the window, and I could just feel her heart heavy with sadness. Showered with gifts and donations, we helped her get through the storm. Speaking of storm...the media frenzy was crazy. I remember one morning walking up to 5 media vans and knocks on the door. Everyone wanted pictures of the puppies and Nala when her story broke...but I became an avid protector and lawyer, defending her privacy with all my might. I allowed one brief picture for Le Droit and that was it....2.2 seconds and.... your out buddy. I was proud to kick everyone off my property so our Queen could peacefully be a mom.
She raised them all well, but when her job was done, it was done.
Then magic happened, she found her adoptive mom. She lived a long happy life of love and adventures. Nala was 15 and a half and has outlived some of her puppies. Kim, you were her miracle, truly.
Her presence in my life was truly a gift, although brief, she showed me how to move on. To not dwell on tragedy but to focus on the now. Nala will forever BE our rescue. She represents who we are, what we do. .. and is a true ambassador of resilience.
She is an inspiration and a true hero in my eyes.
Go be with your best friend Torque and your puppies as you are all reunited again. Simba is the one surely STILL causing trouble, mom's home now, so Simba, you better be a good boy....or not.
Thank you to all who followed Nala through the years, who donated for her care and the needs of her puppies, thank you to the volunteers, to the Gatineau SPCA team for trusting us to care and protect Nala and her puppies, to her loving adoptive mom and family, to her uncle Kerby and all those who hearts she touched near and far.
