Treats motivate and engage your dog, making training fun and effective.

Start with "yes" as a marker, then give a treat. Repeat (many times) until "yes" becomes more meaningful.

🐶 For Picky Eaters:
🔵 Use meals as training treats
🔵 Stop free feeding
🔵 Train in quiet spaces

If your dog's behavior has declined post-training, it's crucial to understand the ongoing nature of canine education. Training your dog involves more than just the initial program—it's a lifelong commitment. During the training period, we instill a healthier mindset in your dog, but the responsibility extends to you for sustained success.

In our care, dogs thrive due to accountability, consistent structure, and dedicated effort. To prevent regression, apply the methods learned, adjust your interactions, and assertively maintain established rules. Neglecting this commitment risks a return to old habits, even for the most well-behaved dogs.

Training is a collaborative effort; your role is pivotal. While trainers provide education and techniques, your commitment to implementation is paramount. Slacking in your efforts post-training may lead to setbacks.

View training as a daily practice, shaping each interaction. Ceasing efforts allows old behaviors to resurface. Consistency, attention to detail, and a clear approach are essential. Dogs excel when rules are unambiguous, expectations are clear, and everything remains consistent.

If you revert to previous patterns after training, your dog is likely to regress. A commitment to the established principles is key to sustained positive behavior.

5 Reasons Your Dog Is Fearful of People

1. Lack of Early Socialization: Dogs, much like humans, need social experiences during their developmental stages. If a dog misses out on these crucial interactions with various people during their formative weeks, it can lead to hesitation and fear when encountering new individuals later in life. Early socialization is key to bolstering their confidence.

2. Traumatic Experiences: Trauma, whether physical or emotional, can deeply affect a dog's perception of people. Past negative encounters, such as mistreatment or frightening situations, may leave lasting scars, causing a dog to become fearful of others.

3. Genetic Predisposition: Some breeds exhibit a genetic predisposition towards wariness or reserved behaviour around strangers. While genetics play a role, appropriate training can help mitigate these natural tendencies.

4. Lack of Exposure: Limited exposure to diverse individuals during their early years can result in fear or anxiety. If a dog's social circle remains small, they might not develop the confidence to interact with new people comfortably.

5. Unintended Reinforcement: Well-intentioned owners can inadvertently reinforce their dog's fear through excessive comforting or attention during fearful situations. While the owner's intentions may be to reassure, the dog may perceive this as validation of their fear.

Dogs are creatures of their environment.

Let’s take the standard highly aroused, no manners dog who is friendly as can be, but doesn’t listen and “rules the roost”.

Chances are, this dog would do great with some proper training, structure and leadership. We work with these dogs all the time.

The thing is- these dogs behave this way because they’re allowed to. It’s as simple as that.

Dogs are selfish by nature, and they will do things that are self rewarding. Jumping on people, chewing furniture, barking at stuff outside—it’s fun and games. And all easy to stop or change.

The issue often lies within the dog/human relationship. The owners might feel “bad” for disciplining their dogs, or have been told every lie in the book about how wrong it is to do so. So instead they all struggle for possibly the lifetime of the dog.

Humans are also creatures of habits, and if our own habits are encouraging bad behaviors, then it becomes a vicious cycle.

The dog misbehaves, the owner feels bad, the owner gives MORE freedom, more exercise, more fun, more love because that’s what they’re told to do. Instead of just enforcing rules and correcting all the nonsense, the dog just does it more.

The cycle of self rewarding behavior continues until a breaking point is typically reached.

Then the owners might seek help, and the right trainer can get results that seem like “magic” when all we do is use an approach that makes sense to the dog.

We are fair, clear and consistent with our messaging. We don’t allow bad behaviors, we stop them. We reward what we want. OUR attitude and relationship with the dog is built on mutual respect, not one sided as many dog/owner relationships are.

We get the results we do because we, the humans, know that our behavior contributes to the dog’s long-term success.

We educate our clients on these concepts and then eventually, they’re successful too

The changes in your dog always always always begin with YOU.

Veni has been adopted by our amazing client . It is important that and ourselves found a capable home with someone knowledgeable who we know is going to do what it takes to ensure Veni and her dog Maximus who also attending our board and train are both successful together.

Too often dogs are placed into incapable homes where they end up back in the shelter or euthanized.

We couldn’t be more happy with this placement.

Thank you to everyone involved

Group place with some of the board and trains.

What’s happening here ?

The dogs on place are learning to remain calm and in control even those with FOMO while we rotate through and train them funcation obedience.

The dogs training in the centre are learning how to remain in control and reliable with the distraction of being surrounded by other dogs.

The dogs in their crates are learning to remain calm and in control just like the dogs on place.

Doorway thresholds and the “place” command can help slow down an anxious dog’s mind and improve their ability to cope and think better. Here’s how:

1. Clear Boundaries: When you teach a dog to respect thresholds (like doorways) or in a designated “place,” you’re setting clear boundaries. These boundaries provide a sense of structure and safety for the dog. An anxious dog often feels overwhelmed by the world around them, and boundaries give them a sense of predictability and control.

2. Self-Control:Anxious dogs can be impulsive and reactive. Learning to pause at doorways or stay in a designated place teaches them self-control. They learn to wait and not immediately react to external stimuli, which is essential for managing anxiety. It gives them time to think and make better choices.

3. Calm and Relaxation: Dogs, like humans, can benefit from moments of stillness. These moments can help them relax, reduce stress, and ultimately think more clearly.

When it comes to socializing your pet, dog parks can seem like an attractive option, but they carry significant risks. These risks can compromise your dog's safety and overall well-being in several ways.

We do not recommend dog parks!

5 Ways Excessive Affection Can Harm The Relationship You Have With Your Dog

Dependency:
Giving your dog constant affection can make them overly dependent on you. This can lead to separation anxiety when you're not around.

Lack of Boundaries:
Dogs, like people, benefit from clear rules. If you always give in to your dog's demands for attention without setting limits, they may develop behavior issues like being demanding, disobedient, or possessive.

Reinforcing Anxiety:
Some dogs are naturally anxious or fearful, and too much affection can make it worse. Comforting a fearful dog too much might make them think there's something to be afraid of, making their anxiety worse.

Inconsistent Training:
If you're too forgiving of bad behavior because you want to show affection, your dog might get confused about what's acceptable and what's not, leading to long-term behavior problems.

While affection is a crucial component of a healthy dog-owner relationship, it must be balanced with structure, boundaries, and clear expectations to ensure the dog's mental well-being. Dogs thrive when they know their place in the family and have a predictable routine that includes both love and discipline when needed

Correct the thought process!

If you’ve caught yourself correcting your dog when they explode, you are far too late.

Out the spark not the fire.

Over and over I’ve seen owners struggling with the same issue. The early phases of the reactivity sequence seem benign, or at the very least so mild that it would be unfair to correct them for it.

Unfortunately, these early phases or stages are anything but benign. They’re the required initial steps your dog must go through to get to the dreaded big stuff that all of you struggling with seriously reactive dogs know so well.

Which is why if you your dog has reactivity issues, the very best practice you can get into is requiring your dog to simply keep their mind—and eyes—on their own business. Scanning for trouble and “mad-dogging” other dogs has to removed from the menu.

If you learn to correct your dog (appropriately) for any untoward looking, and you do so with tools your dog cares enough about to actually stop the looking, you can actually stop this terribly predictable reactivity sequence in its tracks.

After all, that’s what most great dog trainers do, and it’s what most amazed owners think of as “magical” timing. Alas, there is no magic, just a keen awareness of how all this plays out.

Don’t make the mistake of rushing!!!

Giving your dog time to process your command is important because it allows them to understand and respond appropriately. Rushing them can lead to confusion and mistakes.

Over correcting your dog in new environments or too early in the training process can create anxiety because it can be overwhelming and intimidating. This can hinder their ability to learn and follow commands effectively.

Patience is key!

Thinking outside the box. A crucial tool for being successful in dog training and in any profession.

What happens when the dog doesn’t respond to traditional methods or techniques?

Well, you think outside the box. You figure out how to get the desired result in a way that won’t diminish progress made in other areas or the relationship you have with the dog in-front if you. Every dog is different so figure out what works for them.

We have a timeline during board and trains and sometimes traditional tools and techniques don’t work.

Millie is learning downs through physical manipulation and praise as a reward.

When have you thought outside the box to get a desired result when training your dog ?

7 Reasons Corrections Are Important In Dog Training

Establishing Boundaries: Corrections help set clear boundaries and rules for your dog. Dogs thrive on structure and consistency, and they need to understand what behavior is acceptable and what is not.

Safety: Correcting unwanted behaviors can be crucial for the safety of your dog and others. For example, correcting a dog for chasing after a moving car or jumping on children can prevent accidents and injuries.

Communication: Corrections are a way to communicate with your dog. They help convey to your dog that a particular behavior is undesirable or inappropriate. When done correctly, corrections can improve the communication between you and your dog.

Behavior Modification: Corrections can be a great tool for modifying undesirable behaviors. By providing consequences for unwanted actions, you can discourage these behaviors and encourage more desirable ones.

Improving Obedience: Corrections can be used to reinforce commands and improve obedience. When a dog understands that there are consequences for not following commands, they are more likely to comply with your instructions.

Preventing Behavioral Issues: Correcting minor behavioral issues early on can prevent them from escalating into more serious problems. For example, addressing leash pulling or excessive barking when it first occurs can prevent these behaviors from becoming habits.

Building Trust and Respect: When corrections are applied consistently and fairly, they can help build trust and respect between you and your dog. Dogs are more likely to trust and respect a handler who provides clear guidance and communication and enforces rules consistently!

It's crucial to use corrections correctly and with proper timing to avoid confusion and ensure they are effective in achieving the desired behavior changes.

Deli is enrolled in our Puppy Foundations program, which focuses on three crucial aspects of puppy development: engagement, confidence, and patience.

Engagement is key in our program, involving puppies in various activities, exercises, and interactions to stimulate their curiosity, mental abilities, and physical exercise.

Building confidence is crucial for emotional and behavioral development, achieved through overcoming obstacles using lots of reinforcement and exposure to different environments and situations.

Patience training teaches puppies to wait and learn self-control, preventing impulsive behaviors and enhancing focus, listening, and adaptability skills.

Our program aims to provide a solid foundation, shaping their obedience and ability to navigate the world confidently.

Our Kennel Team plays a crucial role in the success of our Board and Train program. The foundation of training starts in the kennel, and without it, dogs will not acquire the necessary skills to complete their training.

The Kennel provides dogs with the essential structure, health and wellness, and routine to ensure their comfort, safety, and calmness during their stay.

The kennel is not just a place for dogs to sleep and eat. It is also where they learn important behaviors such as waiting for their food, understanding crate boundaries, remaining calm during collar changes, navigating doorways, being quiet in their crates, and showing respect to their neighbors. Additionally, it serves as a space for dogs to decompress between training sessions.
