ADOPT ME! 🐾 Hershey – Your Sweet and Spirited Companion!

Hershey is a 2-year-old boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He’s a cuddle enthusiast who loves burrowing under blankets and soaking up all the love from his humans. He recently discovered the joy of his dog bed when placed in the sun – he’s all about the cozy life!
This playful guy thrives on interaction and enjoys a good play session with his human. He loves solving dog puzzles and is food-motivated, which makes training a fun activity. Hershey is crate-trained and happily hops in for a treat, waiting patiently until it’s time to come out.

A Few of Hershey’s Quirks:

• 🏡 Hershey is best suited to a home without other pets or small children. He enjoys being the center of attention.
• 🦮 Walks can be a bit overstimulating for Hershey, as he’s reactive to dogs he sees. A fenced yard is ideal for his exercise and playtime, giving him a safe space to burn off energy.
• 💊 He’s currently on fluoxetine, which helps him remain calmer, making it easier for him to focus on his training and continue to make progress ($38/month).
• 🥶 Although Hershey isn’t a fan of the winter boots he needs to wear for winter walks, he’s all in for cuddles and indoor fun when the weather’s too cold for long outdoor adventures.
• 🧹 He’s reactive to larger equipment like vacuums and lawnmowers, so he’ll need a little help staying calm in those situations.
• 🐾 Interesting Fact! Hershey was born with a condition called hypospadias, where the urethra doesn’t open from the usual location. After surgery as a puppy repaired the problem, but when he lifts his leg to p*e, it comes out in a unique spot – his special ‘potty’ trick!

While we’re eager to find Hershey a permanent home where he can settle and truly blossom with patience and consistent training, WE WILL ALSO CONSIDER A FOSTER-TO-ADOPT PLACEMENT so that BTRC can continue to offer training support to help ensure a smooth transition for Hershey and his new family.

Hershey is fully vetted, up-to-date on all shots, and ready to find his perfect match. He would thrive with a human who has the time and patience to continue his training while showering him with the love and attention he craves ❤️.

If you’re ready to welcome Hershey into your home and your heart, he’ll reward you with endless affection, loyalty, and the joy of a playful, loving companion. Could this sweet boy be the perfect fit for you? If so, he is waiting anxiously for your application, which you can find here: www.bostonterrierrescuecanada.com/dog/hershey

BTRC’S INVESTMENT IN HERSHEY’S CARE: $2583.44
YOUR ADOPTION FEE: $650.00

GENERAL QUESTIONS: www.bostonterrierrescuecanada.com/adoption-policies

HERSHEY • NEUTERED MALE • 2 YEARS • 23 LBS • ONLY PET • ADULT HOME • FOSTERED IN EDMONTON, AB

🐾MONKEY UPDATE🐾

Hello BTRC friends!!! Mr. Monkey here. Just letting you all know I am doing fantastic. Nothing too crazy happening over the last few months. However, I do have sad family news I will share here shortly. But let’s start on the positives.

The mama tried getting me into flyball, but my ball retrieving skills are a work in progress. So since the mama played flyball with my late brothers for 10 years, we are just practicing basic flyball skills at home. We will see how it goes, and maybe try flyball again this summer. Nothing wrong with flyball not being my thing after all, and we can always find another activity. As of now, I am just happy learning to play fetch. Tug is also my favorite thing to do especially when I win against the mama or daddy and I get to shake my tug around and chew it. Roar....good times!

Summertime has been full of long walks, beach days, and let’s not forget paddleboarding with the mama and her friends. I also made a new friend this summer. She is an abnormally tiny American Pitbull Terrier named Bella. She is great. We went for a paddleboard adventure with our mamas a few times this past summer. Along the way we take breaks and play on random sandbars in the middle of the Saskatchewan River. So much fun!!!! I can’t wait to meet up with Bella again this summer.

I am also still enjoying going to doggy daycare of course and meet new puppers all the time.

This year has been great, but also not so great and Christmas was sad for my family this year. Just before Christmas, we had to say goodbye to one of my favourite people, my Grandma. Mama says that grandma, and my late brothers, are in Heaven watching over us all. I have definitely been where I am needed most over the last two weeks, snuggling in tight with my daddy and mama and I know my comfort during this difficult time makes their day.

Otherwise, attached you will find a few photos. Mama wishes she had more but lost quite a few when her last phone crashed. But it is what it is. As long as we have each other, phones don’t matter. ❤️

Sincerely,
Mr. Monkey and family

Welcome to our first intake of 2025 – Mya!

BTRC was alerted to a 14-year-old dog who was recently surrendered to a shelter. Blind and terrified, we knew we needed to get Mya out of the shelter and into a foster home.

Upon arrival, Mya eagerly sniffed her way around the house and settled in a nice fluffy bed. Later that evening, she had a deep sleep in the human bed nestled between her foster parents – she knew she was safe. ♥

Mya has already seen a vet and while we are waiting on her blood, urine and f***l test results, her exam confirmed she has mature cataracts and significant dental disease. A fine needle aspiration was performed on a mass on her chest to determine if it’s a mast cell tumour and we are also waiting on the pathologist’s report. The good news is that her lungs and heart are strong. 💪 Once we have all the necessary information, we can move forward to ensure Mya receives the care and support she needs.

So far, Mya has been the perfect houseguest. She gets along beautifully with her BT foster sister, takes her eye drops with no issue and is the queen of the signature BT bum wiggle when her humans come home. Her foster mom says, “She’s the most gentle, loving and easy dog I have ever cared for. The way she navigates the house, you’d never know she’s blind. She’s just amazing.”

We look forward to getting to know more about this sweet senior and will update you soon.

Mya is being fostered in the Halton Region of Ontario and is not yet ready for adoption.

Today, January 14, 2025, is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. Alum Charlotte looks a bit annoyed and that’s because her dad misunderstood. He thought today was Dress LIKE Your Pet Day! 😂

Costumes, bandanas, bows, tutus, hats, sweaters and fancy coats – the options are endless for how you can celebrate this day. 👗🎀 But remember – make sure that whatever you choose is safe and comfortable for your pet. And, if they prefer to go au naturel or get stressed wearing clothes, let them sit this one out. 😉

Is your pet a fashionista? If so, we’d like to see some pics!

BTRC alum Frodo is not celebrating his birthday in months anymore. Yes, you heard that right – our infamous puppy ‘Chuck’ is now one!

Frodo’s family celebrated his birthday with a delicious cake, party hats and presents. Rumour has it that the real pawty is today and all of his BT friends are invited. Frodo is quite the popular dude which means this event will have an impressive BT guest list – and you know what that means – a room full of snorts, zoomies and bitey-face! 😂

We wish you all the best, Frodo. It’s been a year full of love and adventure and we can’t wait to celebrate many more with you! ♥

‼️🐾 FOSTER NEEDED: PIPER – CALGARY, AB 🐾‼️

Affectionately known as Pips, Piperoni, and Piper Beans, this sweet 4-year-old girl has a heart full of love to give. Whether napping in the sun, curled up on the couch, or enjoying her fuzzy donut bed, Piper is happiest when she’s showering her family with kisses and cuddles!

Why Piper Needs a New Foster Home

Piper’s current foster family has given her the best care, but a move to another province means she’ll need a new foster home. While this is a foster placement, we’d also love to hear from anyone who may be interested in making Piper a permanent member of their family once her required veterinary care is complete.

Piper’s Journey So Far

Piper has shown incredible resilience through her challenges:
*Eye Removal: Last summer, she lost her left eye due to a ruptured corneal ulcer caused by inward-growing eyelashes. She’s thriving with her adorable new look!
*Dental Procedure: Ten rotten teeth were removed, resolving her discomfort and leaving her feeling much better.
*Knee Surgery: Piper underwent surgery for luxating patellas (sliding kneecaps). She’s recovering well, can tackle stairs (with some help on stiff days), and benefits from arthritis supplements to keep her active.

Piper’s Ideal Home

Piper is a loving companion who craves closeness with her people. Here’s what she needs:
*A Calm, Quiet Environment: A home with teens or adults where she is the only pet.
*Someone Home Often: Piper experiences separation anxiety and does best when she has company throughout the day. She thrives in a remote work setting and naps happily while her foster parent works.
*Patience and Support: Piper has made progress with her leash-walking skills and her reactivity to other dogs but will need continued positive reinforcement in these areas.
*Nearby to Current Medical Team: Piper has a history of UTIs. Prescription food has helped manage this, but she’ll need further testing and possible treatment before she’s fully ready for adoption. To ensure continuity of care, her foster should be located close to her current veterinary team.

Day-to-Day with Piper

*Medication: Piper takes Pregabalin twice daily to help manage her anxiety and knee discomfort. She’s easy to medicate, especially with treats!
*Activity Level: Piper enjoys short walks, outdoor relaxation, and light playtime with her favorite stick. She’s fully potty trained and loves spending time with her humans.
*Trainable and Loving: Piper thrives in a structured environment with consistency, positive reinforcement, and lots of love.

Fostering Piper

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada will cover all approved veterinary care, prescription food, and medications. Her foster will provide a loving and supportive home where Piper can continue to blossom.

If you’re interested in fostering – and possibly adopting – Piper, please reach out via PM or email us at [email protected]. Let us know about your home, lifestyle, and why you’d be a great match for sweet Piper. ❤️

Can’t foster or adopt? Please share and help us get the word out!

New Year, New Goals, and Bombom is Lifting Spirits Everywhere!

We’re thrilled to share that Bombom has been adopted! This little charmer has fully embraced his family’s fitness goals and is even coaching Mom through her workouts – from his honourary spot in the home gym. 🏋️

Brie, one of two feline sisters, is a timid kitty who often hides, but has stepped out of her shell just to sneak some p*eks at her adorable new brother. It’s a huge deal for her! Meanwhile, Bombom and Uma, his canine sibling, are already fast friends. The two have become window-watching partners and even share dinner dates each evening! 🐾

At bedtime, Bombom keeps things fair by rotating his snuggle shifts between Mom and Dad – an adorable routine that’s winning everyone over.

The love doesn’t stop there! Rumour has it that Dad even sang him a Sabrina Carpenter song! 🎵 Mom says, “I feel warm and fuzzy when I look at him…He just looks right and when I pat him, he feels right.”

We agree…this forever match does indeed feel right. ♥ Congrats to Bombom and family!

Baby, it’s cold outside – but what better way to celebrate National Bubble Bath Day than in a warm tub full of sudsy luxury? 🫧🫧 BTRC alum Bunker doesn’t look very amused at his bathtime experience, but his sister Misha seems quite pleased with her squeaky-clean coat!

Baths aren’t just about keeping your dog fresh and fabulous – they are an important part of their grooming routine. How often your furry friend hits the tub depends on many factors like breed, coat type, skin conditions, activity level and environment. Skin and fur protect your dogs body, so being dirty or damaged could lead to infections and even affect their immune function.

In addition to helping your dog remain comfortable and healthy, bathing also makes them smell great – and after bath zoomies can be epic! 😂 If you’re unsure of what products best suit your pup’s needs, ask your vet for recommendations.

Now suds up – it looks like today might be a wet and bubbly ride! 🛁🐾

BTRC alum Lalo recently celebrated his adopt-aversary and from the look on his face, he’s lovin’ life!

Lalo has many furry siblings, but has a special bond with his mini Aussie sister, Pepper. He’s learned to pick up on his older siblings’ social cues when they aren’t interested in playing, which is a big accomplishment for Lalo!

Always an eager student, Lalo enjoys training sessions with his mom. Once intolerant of most physical contact, training has taught him to allow more handling. He’s now even started to seek pets and snuggles from his mom! 🥰

A few months ago, Lalo celebrated his fourth birthday. He was quite excited to see a dead bird and naturally assumed it was his birthday gift. He was annoyed at his mom when she told him he couldn’t eat it and though he sulked and gave her the silent treatment, his reaction to not being able to indulge in something he saw as high value was a stark improvement to when he first arrived in his foster and adoptive home.

Since the day she met him, Lalo’s mom has worked hard to make him feel safe and loved. She’s committed to working with him, understanding his unique needs and allowing him to navigate the world at his own pace. Because of her dedication and unconditional love, Lalo has thrived in her care.

Homes like Lalo’s are not easy to find and we’re grateful to his mom for seeing his potential and taking a chance on a deserving rescue dog. ♥

Happy Adopt-aversary, Lalo!

You might have noticed BTRC foster Athena’s little pink briefs. Yes, she’s gone into heat which unfortunately means her spay appointment has been delayed. She doesn’t mind the addition to her wardrobe and has mastered how to pose in a way that’s worthy of a DOGUE cover! She also allows her foster mom to clean her with a warm cloth and never puts up a fuss.

Athena enjoys exploring the great white outdoors in her foster grandparents’ large backyard. ❄ She also loves fuzzy blankets and snuggles. Her foster mom says, “Overall Athena is a really fantastic house dog. She’s sweet and quiet and loves to be cuddled.”

A little nervous when left alone, Athena’s foster mom is working on leaving her for short periods of time and gradually increasing the duration. Athena’s confidence is slowly growing, and the doggy camera shows that she now quietly naps on the couch waiting for her humans to return home. ♥

Athena has already started some routine vetting, including vaccines. While she waits for her spay and dental, she plans to snooze, snuggle and sweet talk her foster brother Oliver into some playtime. 😉

Athena is being fostered in Halifax, NS and is not yet ready for adoption.

BTRC alum Charlie is celebrating three years in her forever home! She’s had quite the adventure and her parents are so happy at how far she’s come.

Her late sister Zoey was an important role model for Charlie, teaching her how to trust and become accepting of other dogs. Since her passing, Charlie has proven to be a great foster sister, honouring Zoey’s legacy. Charlie’s only condition for welcoming other dogs into the home is an increase in treat consumption. 😂

This picture was taken during a summer photoshoot and shows that Charlie knows how to relish in the beauty of nature. 🌿🌼 Her family says, “We love her to bits. We only wish Zoey from Accounting was still with us for Charlie's journey. She would be so proud.”

We are proud too, Charlie Bear. You are one spectacular gal. ♥ Happy Adopt-aversary!

BTRC alum Fionn has some great news – she’s moved, and her new home has a backyard! Don’t worry – Fionn still lives with her mom – they’ve moved together and are enjoying a little more space and some fenced-in fun. ♥
As you can see, Fionn still covets her precious gem toy, and it looks like it’s also had a taste of backyard bliss. 😂💎

It’s me Emmy! Happy New Year!

Can you believe it’s already been one year since I was adopted? Just last year, I was asking Santa Paws for a forever home for Christmas and now I’m a proud BTRC alum. When Mom brought me home, I knew right away that I was meant to be there. I could just feel it.

I’m not Mom’s only child – she has two children that are grown ups now and they make me feel just as loved as she does. I like when they call me Queen. All I do is look at them and they know what I want or need. It’s really easy to convince my brother to give me extra treats. When I want more food, I do something called a “chicken dance.” I dance and then I get chicken! 😍

I’m always by Mom’s side – and she loves it that way. Car rides are my favourite, but I also like watching the neighbourhood and letting Mom know when I see a dog outside. When I visit my favourite park and I see leaves, I like to plow through them which makes Mom chuckle because she says that’s something kids like to do too.

I have something called Cushing’s Disease. I was really lucky because Mom had another dog with it, so she recognized my symptoms right way, and we saw a dogter. Now I’m following a treatment plan, and I feel good. I also have a pesky ulcer that crept up on me just in time for the holidays. I need to take drops and wear ‘the cone.’ Mom says that she’s proud of me because I’m patient with drops and don’t complain about the cone. What’s there to complain about when I get chicken every time I get drops?

I asked mom if she wanted to share anything with my BTRC fans and she said:

“Emmy is just the best little girl and I am so happy she is not just part of but a big part of our family. She makes our home brighter and happy everyday. Thank you to BTRC for rescuing her and choosing me as her forever Mom. I am so blessed to have this sweet girl. I absolutely love and adore her.”

I couldn’t imagine a better life and I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings me. 💕
Love,
Emmy xoxo

♥♥♥

Emmy’s story is an inspirational one…but it could have been very different if BTRC didn’t rescue her. Scheduled to be euthanized because she wasn’t getting along with a new dog in her home, Emmy was in dire need of help – and BTRC stepped in. Now, Emmy has found a wonderful home that loves her beyond measure. We are so happy with this update and wish Emmy and her family all the best in 2025! 🎉
