This is an experiment I am doing this year. Using a cold frame to start some potatoes early. By the way here is some information on the variety you see here: this from seedpotatoes.ca (Eagle Creek)
Alta Blush’ was discovered as a chance seedling in Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 1992. The exact parentage is unknown but it was developed by private potato breeder John Safroniuk of Wetaskiwin Alberta. It has a smooth, thin skin, shallow eyes and tastes wonderful.

John’ s daughter, Tracey Berg, writes. “The potato is excellent in salad, boiled, baked and roasted. It has a creamy texture. It is by far our favorite for mashing, but they don’t mash well until late September.”

Just in time for Easter 🐣🐇
Our friends at Pine Haven Colony again had a bumper potato crop last year. They are still overstocked. To help them out, we are offering you a giant BULK potato SALE🍅🥒🥒
Wednesday (April 16 from 3pm to 6) at the Wetaskiwin Farmers Market (Ag center) bulk 50 lbs of potato are only $17.00 (no tariffs apply). There are Alaska Bloom & Norland (white & red).
The plan is to bring in a fairly large inventory, so we ask that people show up instead of asking us to hold for them.
See you at the Farmers Market

It is March and snow is still on the ground but spring is right around the corner and we are beginning to think of what we are growing in 2025. I have ordered 9 different varieties of seed potato. (I went a bit overboard). I am excited about all of them, especially the German Butterball variety. I had just a few of them last year and the difference in taste is utterly amazing. I will reveal more about the other varieties in future posts.

When I go into the grocery store I see people are now closely studying the label to figure out where the product originates. For us it is simple we adhere to the 100 KM philosophy for our grow partners.

People often ask me: "What's that?" or "What do you do with them". They are microgreens and they differ from sprouts in the way they are grown. Microgreens are watered from the bottom (wicking effect) and when harvested they are cut above the soil line. This virtually eliminates any possible contamination.
As to what to do with them, the possibilities are endless. I will list a few of my favorites:
Atop a baked potato, actually on top of the sour cream and bacon bits.
Turn your sandwich from dull to gourmet with a heaping pile of these greens.
Taco Tuesday anyone?
Pasta Alfredo,
On top of a fried egg.
Spaghetti with meat sauce.
Toss them into a salad to really spruce it up.
