📦 When the Box Hissed... 📦
On the morning of October 9, staff arrived at the shelter to find a sealed cardboard box sitting by the door. That’s not unusual — people often leave donations that way — so they brought it inside and set it on the counter.
But as they turned to walk away, the box hissed.
Instant panic. Two staff members grabbed bite gloves, jackets, and boots, cleared out a kennel, and carefully opened the box — unsure what they’d find inside.
Two tiny faces stared back at them. Frightened. Hungry. Alive.
Inside the duct-taped box were two five-week-old kittens, now known as Umbra and Void.
They were cold and terrified, but safe at last. ❤️
Umbra and Void have come a long way since that morning. They’ve grown into playful, curious little kittens who love to chase toys and tumble around together — waiting patiently for their forever homes.
We share these stories not just to tug at heartstrings, but to show what really happens behind the doors of the Weyburn Humane Society. In just a few weeks, three separate boxes of abandoned babies have arrived on our doorstep.
Each one needs specialized care — formula and food mixed just right, vet visits, medication, and constant monitoring to make sure they don’t spread illness to the other animals or contract anything themselves. It’s exhausting and expensive, but we wouldn’t trade it for anything — because every life deserves a chance.
We’re proud to do this work. But it’s hard — and we can’t do it without you.
If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the time. Umbra and Void, and so many others, are waiting for homes. 🐾
If you can’t adopt, please share our adoptable animals with your friends and family — you never know who might fall in love. 💕
Together, we can make sure no more boxes like these are left behind.
