We have some super exciting news coming your way! We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting our first event with the wonderful certified professional canine nutritionist, Jennifer, who is the proud owner of
Jennifer has a wealth of experience in the pet industry, dabbling in various roles such as food/retail, nutrition services, pet grooming, and veterinary assistance.
Our first session on July 13 is currently all filled up, but not to worry because there will definitely be more events in the future. If you’re interested in talking to a nutritionist about your furry friend, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us so we can jot down your details. The more interest we gather, the faster we can organize the next event!
Sessions with Jennifer cost $75 for a full hour and will be held at our store in a time slot format. Those who sign up early will get first pick of their preferred time slot. Currently, we are limiting the sessions to 4 people per day. Once picked we will contact you to confirm your timeslot.

You may have noticed that our store is quieter than before. Sadly we did lose our senior kitty, Penelope, recently.
Penelope and her siblings have been in Lee’s family since they were tiny kittens. When Lee brought her from her home to the store when she took over the business in March 2018, Penny immediately made the counter her spot. She was promoted to Customer Service Manager and took that job very seriously. She trained many kitties over the years to be great counter kitties and recognized that Gina had that special customer service quality. With Gina taking over most counter duties, Penelope decided to semi-retire and spend more time with her good friend Priscilla.
By nearly 17 years of age, her body was frail and tired but she was as feisty as ever until the very end. We were lucky enough to be with her when she breathed her last breath. She was such a large presence at Duke’s and no one will ever replace her.
Thank you for all your love over the years for our counter kitty. We miss you, Penny. ❤️

Castle Farm hay is perfect for guinea pigs, rabbits, and chinchillas. This hay is lovingly grown right in Castleton, Ontario on a family farm, then hand-packed into convenient five-pound bags.
has two varieties to choose from: Timothy hay and Orchard Blend hay.
Timothy is the best-known grass hay for small animals and can be given to your pocket pets at any age.
The Orchard Blend has a combination of orchard grass, fescue, Timothy, and rye. This hay is generally softer and is great to give your pets variety or to encourage a picky bunny to eat more (rabbit people know how hard it can be to get Thumper to eat!)
Hay should be 80% of your small pet’s diet and should always be available to them.

Please allow me the opportunity to tell you a bit about myself.
My name is Afrika (pronounced like the continent of Africa) and I have been in the healthy pet food industry since 2016. I started at independently owned stores in Montreal while I went to Concordia University.
When I graduated, I moved back to Durham Region and worked at big-name pet food stores for several years. During this time, I met my colleague and close friend Travis.
I studied communications at Durham College and have been working part-time at a PR agency. I love working in comms, but my pets are the loves of my life, and I can’t stay away from work that keeps animals feeling their best.
I started as a customer at Duke’s and then, with Travis vouching for me, I started working for Lee.
Like Lee, I am 100% a proud cat lady. I am also an expert in guinea pig care and have extensive knowledge of small animals such as rabbits, hamsters, and rats.
My fur babies are Mila the cat, and Poppy, Pipkin, Holly, and Ivy the guinea pigs. I have a cat nephew named Spartacus who lives up in Sudbury, and I often babysit my dad’s black cats, Memo, Jack, Annie, and Adam.
Some day I’d love to have dachshunds and a bearded dragon.
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly into the Duke’s family and I look forward to getting to know you and your fur babies better!

As we adjust to life without our sweet girl Priscilla, we have some folks we want to thank for her end-of-life care.
When we realized Priscilla’s quality of life was not going to improve, we needed to act quickly. Many clinics were unavailable that day, but East Oshawa Animal Hospital () was willing to fit us in.
Practice Manager, friend of Duke’s, and co-founder of Marley’s Pet Rescue (), Kerrilee, arranged everything so well. She guided us through the process and made it as easy as it could be.
The two veterinary technicians were very gentle with Priscilla.
And finally, Dr. Hillis kindly and humanely helped guide our girl to the great beyond.
Thank you to everyone at East Oshawa Animal Hospital on Townline Rd. for your great care during such a difficult time. 💖
A huge thank you as well to Thistledown Pet Memorial () in Uxbridge for your professionalism and kindness in taking care of Priscilla’s remains. Her urn will be kept here at the store, so you, her friends, can pay your respects if you feel moved to.

Add some to your next order...I've tried them all and they are really good...a little bland for my taste (because there are no unneccesary ingredients) and the pups just love them, lol! :)

Kitty loves his new fish! This is my cat who lives at my house. His siblings are Bruce and Penelope. He decided he didn't want to move to the store because he loves my dogs so much!
