A wee statement on the buy Canadian trend that's been dominating socials for the last few weeks...(Lee wrote it, so it's long, lol)

We here at Duke's have been trudging along for years, carrying products from as local as possible, which isn't the only factor going into choosing which products we carry, but it is an important one. We support locally owned and operated companies by carrying their products in our stores not just because they are local, but because they have great quality, are ethically sourced, the companies value their employees, etc. We look at the big picture and will not hesitate to discontinue products if they do not meet our food snob standards.
There are some garbage pet food companies that are Canadian made and owned that we wouldn't carry if they paid us to. There are some wonderful quality products made all over the world, including the USA, that we are proud to carry in our 2 little stores.
An important lesson we learned during the border shutdown of covid was that if there are no borders or oceans to cross, (ie. local) the products were available. Again, local (Canadian) is not the only factor but an important one for us.
So, to sum up, we are just going to keep doing what we do best. Providing our customers with the best quality products that we wouldn't hesitate feeding or using with our very own pets.
We are locally owned and operated by Canadians. We have 2 locations. Our original store in Whitby and our new store in Port Hope. WE HOPE YOU WILL TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY ABOUT US so we can keep doing what we have been doing since Lee bought Duke's Whitby almost 7 years (!) ago.
There have been many changes in our world since then, but our priorities have not waivered. We don't care about profit. We pay a living wage to our colleagues. We offer a service unlike any kind you will receive at any other pet specialty store. We consider your pets our pets and will find you the best possible products for them no matter where they come from in our world. We do prioritise supporting as local as possible without compromising quality.
We love our customers and thank you all for your continued support of our little local company.
