As Thanksgiving approaches, we need to be mindful of foods our pets can and should not have. π¦
As an ER, we often see an influx of pets with pancreatitis after the holidays. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, often caused by high-fat foods such as gravy, turkey skin, other fatty meats, and stuffing. Signs of pancreatitis include: vomiting and/or diarrhea, lethargy, inappetance, and belly pain.
There are also many foods that are toxic to our pets, often making appearances during the holidays, such as chocolate, alcohol, grapes and raisins, nuts and nutmeg, etc. If you believe your pet has ingested anything that may be toxic, please give us a call at the clinic ASAP (905) 576-3031.
Peep π the post for a list of safe things to feed your pet over the holidays (in small amounts), and know we are here 24/7 should you have any questions, concerns, or emergencies. πΆπ±
