HEALHTY MOUTH MONDAYS (It's a Tuesday after a long weekend, it's technically Monday)!

Today we would like to highlight the importance of DENTAL XRAYS (part one).
The photo on the left shows a cat's canine tooth. On quick glance (which is all a cat will allow you, awake) the tooth appears healthy and solid. When you look
closer you can see signs of FORL (Feline Oral Resorptive Lesions) which usually indicate advanced Periodontal disease under the gum line.
The photo on the right confirms our suspicions of a very unhealthy tooth which has completely resorbed the root. The circled area shows us where the root of the
tooth SHOULD BE.
This very unhealthy, diseased tooth will cause pain and discomfort and must be extracted. This tooth may have been missed without dental x-rays to give us the "full
picture" and to confirm suspicions of advanced periodontal disease.

HEALTHY MOUTH MONDAYS!

If someone recommends an Anesthesia Free Dental, what should you say and why?
ANESTHESIA FREE IS NOT FOR ME!

Why you should NEVER get an Anesthesia free dental cleaning on your pets!
1) Incomplete Cleaning: Without anesthesia, it's impossible to clean below the gumline where most dental issues start. This can lead to undetected periodental disease!

2) Pain and Stress: Perts are often restrained during these anesthetic free dental procedures, causing them unnecessary pain and stress.

3) False Sense of Security: Just because teeth look clean doesn't mean they are healthy. Anesthesia free cleanings can miss serious dental problems.

4) Risk of Injury: Using sharp instruments on an awake pet increases the risk of injury to both the pet and the person performing the cleaning. Having sharp instruments near the tongue on an awake animal could result in paralysis of the tongue.

Bromley is the perfect example of why COHAT's MUST be performed under ANESTHESIA. Bromley's tooth appears perfectly healthy with a small amount of tartar on it, to the naked eye. Upon further inspection, including dental xrays, it is very obvious that the tooth is severely diseased, unhealthy and painful. This tooth must be extracted. An anesthetic free dental would have missed this causing the patient severe pain.
For a thorough and safe dental care, always opt for professional Veterinary dental procedures under anesthesia. Your Pets deserve the BEST care!
