Spring is here, and so are the tiniest, most adorable arrivals—kittens! 🐱💕 Help us prepare for all the little paws coming our way by donating much-needed supplies.

Meet Della: A Sweet Senior in Need of a Loving Home 🐾💖

This is Della, a beautiful 14-year-old female cat with a heart full of love to give! Della is a sweet, gentle soul who enjoys quiet moments, cozy naps, and the occasional cuddle. While she’s a little on the older side, she’s still got plenty of love to share with the right family or person.

Della has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, but don’t let that scare you! With proper treatment and care, she’s living a comfortable life and could have many more happy years ahead. She takes her medication like a trooper, and with regular vet check-ups, she’s doing just fine.

What Della needs most is a calm, loving environment where she can relax and feel safe. She’s not demanding, just seeking a family who will appreciate her quiet presence and care for her as she deserves.

Could you be the one to offer Della the loving home she’s been waiting so patiently for? If you’re looking for a sweet, senior cat to bring joy and companionship to your life, Della is waiting for you!

Meet Andrew, one of our fantastic co-op students joining the Humane Education team from York University this year! 🐾✨

Andrew wanted to complete his co-op placement with the Ontario SPCA to combine his love for animals with teaching students about our values. He’s already delivered presentations to over 300 students in grades 1-8, as well as adults with diverse learning needs. 📚💡

We’re so excited to see how Andrew, along with our 3 other York University co-op students, will continue to grow and become impactful educators one day! 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Our Story

The Humane Society of Durham Region (HSDR) is an independent affiliate of the Ontario S.P.C.A. and Humane Society.

HSDR is made up of a Volunteer Board of Directors, staff members and volunteers. We are a community resource, dedicated to protecting and providing temporary shelter and comfort to all companion animals in need, while promoting adoptions and re-homing for unwanted, abused, neglected and abandoned pets. HSDR promotes humane treatment of all living things. HSDR is a non-profit organization serving all of Durham Region. We rely on the contributions of our donors and supporters in order to provide care and a home for the animals.

To provide compassionate care for abused, abandoned, and neglected animals in our community while they await their new beginning in life.
