The response to our call out for help has been nothing short of amazing. We are so grateful to everyone for their donations, spreading the word and coming to help us. We have the animals settled into temporary homes and have enough volunteers to help the staff with day-to-day care. The next steps are figuring out what we can salvage and what is gone forever. We will be working closely with the insurance companies in the coming weeks/months.
As our needs change, we will post here and to the website. Rest assured, in one form or another our doors will reopen. Until then, space is limited at Urban and we have to limit the number of people in the area so we aren’t tripping over each other.
We will not be open to the public until the foreseeable future, this includes new volunteers. We are not sure when the animals will be ready to resume our educational and outreach programs. Taking animals on presentations provides much needed stimulus and gives them a change of scenery. Not all animals want to go on presentations and be it a snake, lizard or tarantula, they can be very clear in their wishes – we always do what is best for the animals.
Should you wish to volunteer at Urban, please send an email to [email protected] and we will add you to the list and contact you when the need arises. For the time being, we cannot accommodate unannounced visitors. We know everyone wants to come help, but there just isn’t room.
The best way to support the animals right now is through our GoFundMe account https://gofund.me/f2c5ce61, our Amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/OMU6T6YXXSZH?ref_=wl_share and by sharing our story on social media.
The coming months are going to present some challenges, with your help we can come out the other side of this disaster ready to bring the joy and beauty of these animals to you once again.
