Worked with Brandy today for the first time this year. Love the minds on Echo’s babies, she seemed to remember everything and is so willing and sweet, though definitely out of shape. 🤣

Here’s another great daughter of Echo Amos Hollywood available for your consideration.

MSR Echoes Bella is a very nice, correct filly. She’s halter broke, dewormed and weaned. By Echo Amos Hollywood a western pleasure stallion and out of Kings Bolo Vista, a nice stout mare, she should mature around 15hh and will likely be very solid horse.

Sold!!! MSR Smart Lil Brandy, 2020 AQHA mare is available for your consideration. Brandy was lightly started w/j/l last year and shown at one 2-day show in halter and walk/jog classes. Super good natural jog and lope, she is smooth and cadenced in her movements. Since then she has been on the back burner. Brandy is a very sweet, friendly mare that tries her best and catches on to training very quickly. She would be much more of a whoa than go type of ride. She gets along really well with other horses and adores looking after foals.

Had a great day today!!! First 2 rides on Stetson! He did awesome!🥰🥰🥰 Thanks Joe for the help and thanks to Kristy Hirst for bringing such a nice c**t to me to start for you. He’s gonna be a good one! Worked with our yearling c**t, Joker, he’s going to be another great horse and will be listed for sale soon. Bella and Vista may not agree that it was a good day as it’s weaning time, but they are actually doing pretty good so far. We will also be listing Bella and Gunner shortly. We’re going to keep Haley back and hopefully Haley will become my main riding horse in the future.

Haying done for another year. Baled up 15 bales of 2nd crop yesterday off of 8 acres.
So in total we got 120 bales from our 18 acres of hayfields. 10 acres got plowed under after 1st crop since it hadn’t been worked up for 8 years already.
Since there was no room left in the big shed for the hay we stored it in the old barn with the straw. Which we baled up a week and a half ago off the neighbours field. Thank you for the straw Allan! Very much appreciated!

Not sure how we did it but we managed to fit all 180 round bales into the shed and still have some space for the two balers. Not sure where the Ford will get parked for the winter. Maybe in the barn!! Lol
All of the round bales were taken out. Which was 75 of them. So the older ones could be moved up to the front. Then all the loose hay and chaff was raked up and hauled out.
Then the chore of putting all the bales in the shed began. It took pretty much the whole day since we put pallets under them to get some air flow through them.
In a way I kind of hope we don’t get second crop because there is no room for it!! lol
The problems never end!! Lmao

First crop is all rolled up and off the field. Now we wait a week for them to go through their heating process before we put them in the shed.
This year’s crop was just amazing for yield. Unfortunately it did get a couple quick showers but didn’t seem to affect the quality too badly. Just pi**ed us off that it rained.
The 10 acre field yielded 42 bales. 33 of them rolled up with a rotocut baler which cuts the hay to about 4 inches long. Excellent for feeding in our bunk feeders that we have.
The other field is 8 acres and yielded 63 bales. Yes, 63 bales!! Most of the pictures are from that field. The timothy was pretty much 5 feet tall.
So with our little 18 acres of hayland we got 105 bales. That’s about a year and a half worth of feed and we still have about 75 bales in the shed from last year.
It sure is a good feeling having all this feed for the horses when it wasn’t that long ago we were buying hay to make sure we had enough.
A big thank you to the brother in law Sam for coming and helping out with the baling. It’s greatly appreciated!!!

Today’s project all done. Last weekend Cheryl and I augured in the fence posts. Today I installed the gates and 2x6 boards totally unsupervised!!! Cheryl had to work today!
Now Echo will have more room to roam around and quite a bit of more pasture to clean up. He will probably be a happy boy now! Especially since he can be a little closer to the girls too!!! Lol

We are so happy to introduce Hailey! Hailey was actually born on Wednesday, May 24 but had some health issues. Hailey is Missy’s last baby and is now doing much better. Today I was able to put all the mares and foals together and they are getting along very well. Hailey loves getting outside and running around, and making Mommy crazy. 🥰

Molly had a nice big c**t early this morning, both seem to be doing good. 🥰

Put out straw for the mares today. They all started digging through it as soon as they were let out of the barn. Vista, Missy, and Molly are all due next month. Brandy on the far right isn’t pregnant at all but just looking at her you wouldn’t know!
In the second picture Bug decided to venture out in the warm weather but was annoyed with all the soft snow he had to walk through. So he found some high ground to dry his toes for a bit!

Kolby (Deuce) and his owner Mallory enjoying a beautiful winter day!

Here at Moss Spur Ranch we like to make sure the horses have free choice of hay. One way is that we roll out round bales on the ground for them as a natural way of their grazing. We started doing that during the winter months when we got some hay that was a little dusty. We were pleasantly surprised as to how much the horses cleaned up and the horses with health issues didn’t show any signs of it. So every winter since we’ve rolled out bales and have had good results. Plus very little waste.
So last spring we started thinking of how we could make this chore easier. Up until then we would push the bale with the loader to unroll it and would have to drive on it as we unrolled it. It worked but if the ground was wet the hay would be ruined.
The last couple of months we’ve been working on a hydraulic driven bale unroller for the front end loader. Today we finally got to use it and were quite impressed with its performance.

Happy to say that all the hay is in the shed and the straw is under tarp.
Monday baled the straw. Tuesday hauled it all home. Wednesday put the second crop round bales in the shed and tarped the straw in the evening with the distraction of a million mosquitoes! lol
Big thanks to my long time friend who let me get straw off his field! We really appreciate it.
Now it’s time to clean equipment off and store it away until next season.

What beautiful haying and harvesting weather we’ve been having. Cut second crop on Tuesday. Raked on Thursday just to flip the windrows to get them to dry out thoroughly. Raked windrows together on Friday midday and started baling mid afternoon. By evening had baled a little over a hundred small squares and rolled up 32 round bales.
Today I hauled everything off the field. While doing that the Kubota hour meter rolled over to a thousand hours. We’ve only had it 4 years.
The shed has never been so full of hay. There will be 700 small squares and about 140 round bales! WOW!!! That’s enough hay for 2 years with the amount of horses we have now. It sure is a good feeling!
Next couple of days we’ll be baling small squares of wheat straw. Hoping to bale 600 so it will last a few years. Round bales of straw are already in the shed for a week or so.
The horses will have a nice dry place to rest in the winter and lots of yummy hay to fill their bellies! They better not complain! lol
