Every dog can swim, right?
Not even close. Michael believed it his whole life — right up until Billy, a Staffordshire-boxer cross built like a torpedo with the buoyancy of a brick, waded into the river and refused to swim a stroke.
This week Dr. Beth Barrett gets into the stuff nobody warns you about on a summer swim day: which dogs genuinely shouldn't be swimming, the fetch-till-they-drop dog who needs YOU to call it, and two things most owners have never heard of — water intoxication and limber tail.
