Good news!
Update on U.S. border requirements for dogs
On July 22, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised the rules for dogs crossing the U.S. border from low-risk countries, including Canada. These changes take effect Aug. 1, and will impact dogs travelling from Canada to the U.S. Dogs entering the U.S. must:

Be at least six months of age.
Have an International Organization for Standardization-compliant (ISO) or universally readable microchip.
Appear healthy upon arrival.
Have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (this form is completed by the pet owner and must be submitted through the CDC website).

Update: New CDC Rules for Dogs Travelling to the U.S.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been in constant communication with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in an effort to simplify the new requirements for Canadians entering the U.S. with dogs.

We are pleased to share that the CFIA and CDC have agreed to updated requirements for Canadians. The highlights of these changes are as follows:

A bilateral export certificate has been negotiated between the CDC and CFIA.
The CFIA is no longer required to endorse every form; a licensed Canadian veterinarian will be the recognized authority.
Dogs entering the U.S. must have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compliant or other universally readable microchip.
The export certificate is valid for multiple entries based on the duration of the rabies vaccination.

Please read the complete update for additional requirements on the CFIA website.

Please note: This is a fluid situation and additional changes are anticipated. Please check the CFIA website regularly for the most up-to-date information.
