It’s Caturday at Clippingdales, but I only took pics of the dogs today!

Puppies galore! Pomeranian and poodles and Cotons! So many kisses. Our dignified senior lady friend Ava the Pomeranian came to see us for her spring tidy. What a dolly.

Holy moly Christmas! We have three spots left for before Christmas. Can only do so many in a day before we start looking at the dogs and saying…. “Wait what did I do?” I am literally trying to figure out how to make a Voltarin bath bomb.

This is the kind of thing we do. Specialized grooming, breed specific like west highland terriers, yorkies, cotons, and doodles. If your dog is matted it may not be possible but if it’s not—- yes the teddy bear cut is achievable. We have some appointments left for Christmas but they are filling fast and daily.

Came into the parking lot today and had a lost dog photo on our door. I’ll take a pic of it tomorrow but wondered if a little white four year old terrier mix had been found. Haven’t seen anything online for him. Looked like a mini poodle Maltese mix. About 8-12 lbs based on photos.

Ohhhhh. Skunk season is upon us. Call us if you need help! We have the tools, the technology, we know how to get rid of 95% of it. We, more often than not, will take a skunked dog on short notice on the same day. Remember we are closed sundays and Mondays tho! (Even the groomer has had to bring her dog in for a skunk treatment!)

This ”floofy” king came in to see us today, for his summer styling. Big shout out to his owners for their brushing which allowed us to keep him fluffy while making him more comfortable for the hotter weather. And what an absolute sweetheart Jack is. Can’t wait to get kisses next time!

Alaskan malamute day!!!! Lots of hair. But a sweetie. Wish I wouldn’t have mopped and vacuumed BEFORE the dog came in…. Cristina our amazing bather took care of business right up front. So lucky to have great staff.

Jojo came in for his bath, dry and brush out today. Afghans are hairy— but this beast is the hairiest dog I’ve ever had the privilege of working on. He’s a bear. So happy tho.

A lot of people ask us which equipment we use in order to keep the dogs we do, in fine shape.

Attached are photos of the brushes and combs that are the tools of the trade. You shouldn’t be more than $20 in for what you need. Stay away from mat rippers — those are dangerous to a layman. —- Many people come in, looking to keep their dogs “fluffy”, but if it hasn’t been brushed out —. Sometimes it’s just not an option and we have to take it short.

With some mixed breed doodles, we have a blend of a coarse, or fine hair or curly and or straight. Different tools provide different results. These are the most cost effective tools and we do recommend Rens Pets for your tools. IF you want to maintain a longer haired coat on your dog, you must brush often and thoroughly; otherwise you just cause pain to both your pet — and your pocketbook.
Best advice I can give?

If you don’t have the time; bring them in every 6-8 weeks. It keeps coats down and your pet a lot happier (& your wallet) during the grooming process. Hair grows on dogs at about 1/2” a month. 519-979-8822 — we call this “sheep shearing season”

So last week Clippingdale's Salon for Pets celebrated 31 years in business! Whew what a ride it’s been! Thanks to everyone who has supported us through word of mouth, the advent of the internet and Google reviews etc etc etc! We love you all!

On another note, we will be closed for the long weekend this weekend for some well deserved relaxation time (please don’t rain!). We reopen Tuesday morning bright and early at 8:00 am. If you need an appointment please call the store; this forum for DM isn’t checked as often as our answering machine. (Yes we still have a landline). Cherished and affectionate beauty, she lost her sudden illness overnight March 30, 2023; She is survived by Heather Sheriff of Clippingdales and siblings from another mother - Summer, Jojo and Ginger as well as kitty Velcro.

VooDoo was an American champion participating in the challenging world of dog shows to which Heather Sheriff was privileged to own the king of dogs.

VooDoo's other endeavours were being a gentle soul who just wanted to be around people. (As a personal note, - as Jenn from Clippingdales- my favorite memory of her was bringing her a rope toy and watching her absolutely shred it in ten minutes by tossing it in the air and beating the hell out of it in the big yard). She had a great life on the manicured grass with a lot of land to run those long Afghan legs. And she was STUNNING.

She was the epitome of a lady dog and although her illness what sudden and ended quickly - she spent her last few hours with people who truly cared.

Thank you Dr. Anonymous who came out to help in the middle of the night. You know who you are. And we love you.

Thank you Tecumseh Animal Hospital and Dr Mackenzie for your assistance.

And always remember these words from Heather, a strong advocate for animals... Although we didn't get this opportunity with VooDoo due to the sudden nature of her illness. "When it comes time to cross the rainbow bridge for your euthanasia and your animal. - it's better a week too early than a day too late".
