In 2011, Old Bull Farms were breeders of the top and second highest scoring 3-6 year old BWP mares in North America. Since then, we have also produced five of the highest scoring BWP foals in North America, as well as four second place finishers. In 2014 both t

he top scoring BWP filly and c**t were bred by OBF. Lenox OBF still holds the record score of 88, the highest score ever awarded a BWP foal in North America. We are also honored to have bred the 2009 winner of Canada's Royal Winter Fair Lieutenant Governor's General Cup. Through the acquisition of embryo's from world class mares, and import of quality breeding stock from Europe, we have carefully amassed an impressive band of mares. Each year, we gain more insight into sport horse breeding by closely following leaders in the sport, visiting top breeding operations abroad, and being active members of several breed organizations. As breeders, we strive to improve upon a new generation of top young horses. It is surely an asset that Dr. Johnston holds Veterinary Board Certification in equine reproduction. His passion and professional qualifications have opened doors to access frozen semen from the world's most sought after warmblood stallions. As indexed by the WBFSH/FEI and the Top 100 Show Jumping Sire Rankings, our bloodlines contain some of the best producing jumping sires in the world. Examples among them include Voltaire, Heartbreaker, Concorde, Clinton, Escudo I, Lupicor, Numero Uno, Indoctro and Contender. We are unique in producing horses that have not just one, or two, but several "modern type" jumping stallions in their pedigrees. When bred to a quality mare, any one of these stallions can be expected to produce offspring that has the potential to compete in any arena of world class show jumping. Times Square OBF has a very strong damline. Ulanda OBF by Heartbreaker, is FULL sister to two successful 1.60 m jumpers including Leopold Van Asten's mount, VDL Groep Zidane. Ulanda herself never competed but has produced a string of successful jumpers including Pharoah OBF who is competing successfully at 1.40 m. Ulanda is also the dam of Canadian Hunter Derby Winner Lamaze OBF. "Tony's" sire, approved BWP stallion Qustom Q, is a son of the legendary 1.60 jumper, Emerald and out of approved BWP mare Carmen OBF who is by Dirk Demeersman's Olympic mount, Clinton.

Happy Yesterday! The amazing Carmen OBF (Clinton/Heartbreaker) blessed us with another perfect "10". Her 14th perfect foal is by Kanndarco, sire of Sapphire/McLain Ward/USA, Valentina vd Heike/Jos Lansink/BEL, Winningmood/Luciana Diniz/POR and Parco/Ludo Philippaerts. Carmen OBF also has a lovely yearling filly by Kanndarco that has many desirable attributes and worthy of being retained as part of the ongoing breeding program here at OBF. Carmen has produced mostly successful offspring over the years including elite broodmares, performance horses and approved stallions, such as Marcus OBF. She will no doubt be hard to replace as she gets closer to the later part of her career. Thankfully, she has many progeny such as this young c**t who is already loving life and fitting right into the herd.

A sad Goodbye to one of our all-time favorite stallions, Oxford (Burggraaf/Voltaire). We feel honored to have been entrusted with him and proud to have stood Oxford here at OBF from 2002-2004. He was always a gentleman to work with and an absolute superstar in the ring, the big red ham, what an amazing contribution he made to improving the quality of sport horses in Nova Scotia as well as the rest of North America. He was a super fertile stallion whose semen, after even a week in the fridge would "do the job", producing so many amateur friendly and very successful offspring. He will certainly be missed by all of us at OBF who had the good fortune of working with him, as well as all the breeders and Maritimers who have owned and ridden his descendants. Thank you to Pat and Dena for sharing him with us, may he rest in peace. xo

Old Bull Farms is looking for a University Summer Student. (applicant does not have to be a student) We prefer a University Student as they are available in April vs June. This person must be an experienced rider who is not shy about riding young horses (they are already going and under saddle). You would also receive coaching from our experienced rider's. Duties would also include, barn work, farm work, foal care, teaching pony lessons to young OBFer's etc.. You would get a lot of exposure to Equine Reproductive Work and Mare Management. You could also get a lot of exposure to Equine Veterinary Practice if that is your interest. Exposure to Fox Hunting, Hounds and future Hunt opportunities is also included.
