Teaching a dog to walk on a leash is a struggle for most people. Dogs get distracted by a lot of things because, just like any other beings, they like to engage with their environment. However, sometimes this engagement leads to triggers which cause dogs to react in a negative way.
Heel walking teaches the dog to stay close to and focus on the handler.
Just teaching heel walking isn't enough though. We have to work on desensitizing dogs to a lot of things that cause distractions in their environment. This takes time, practice and patience.
Some people then resort to letting their dogs loose because it's too difficult to walk them on a leash. If you want to know my thoughts on that, please refer to the link in my bio where I talk to am800 on @iheartradioca @am800cklw about the dangers of dogs off leash.

Another great example of environmental cueing where the dog learns that if the door bell rings, it's an automatic cue to go to a safe place away from the door. Helps with people getting injured or knocked over because of the dog jumping in joy while greeting.

Learn "environmental cueing"!
This is when your dog knows what to do, without you telling them verbally or visually. This is based on what's happening in their environment at that moment.
Teaching this will resolve issues like jumping up on people or door dashing when someone is at the door. Door dashing can be dangerous as dogs can inadvertently injure a child and/or knock over a senior.
@helen_the_lakie can READ and RECOGNISE COLOURS and knows her toys by NAME!
In the final class of brain games, everyone comes up with a story. We replace the words SIT, DOWN, SPIN and PLACE with cue cards and NO VERBAL commands. We teach dogs to recognize colors. Dogs are NOT COLOUR BLIND!
This class facilitates brain development and stimulation. Dogs thrive with mental engagement.
