This 7-month-old bundle of joy is a Blue Heeler and Australian Cattle Dog mix with a love for belly rubs and endless cuddles.

UPDATE: Dishwasher acquired! Thank you to a couple of generous donors 💚

Our oldest dishwasher has finally given out, and we’re urgently looking for a replacement to keep up with our shelter’s needs. With dozens of loads every day, our washers work as hard as we do to keep our dishes clean and sanitized for the animals.

If you happen to have a gently used dishwasher that you’d be willing to donate, please bring it by our shelter at 730 Century St B in Winnipeg—we’d be so grateful!

Keep up with Mish! 🏃🏼‍♀️

This 1-year-old lab cross was found as a stray with her brother, Mash, when she originally came into our care in November 2023. Sweet Mish was quickly adopted as a little one, but came back to us because her previous family wasn’t ready to invest in her training. Now, she’s looking for a second chance with a patient, active family who loves the outdoors!

With lots of energy to spare, Mish would thrive with someone who can help her learn boundaries and give her the adventure-filled life she’s meant for. Mish is house trained, eager to learn, and ready to be your adventure buddy—long walks, jogs, hikes, and all!

“Layla (formerly Cobalt) is the sweetest, silliest, cuddliest little girl. She loves to lay by the window and watch the birds and squirrels. She also loves to dance! She likes to be held while I dance with my coffee in the mornings. I feel like she’s more dog than cat because she follows me everywhere and greets me every time I come home. Layla is my soul cat and I’m so lucky to have her! 🫶🏻”

Introducing our Staff Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the incredible team members who make D’Arcy’s ARC what it is! You may recognize these folks from your last visit to the shelter ✨

Our staff do so much more than just greet everyone who walks through our doors — they connect rescues with their forever families, facilitate adoptions, manage volunteers, and provide love and care to all animals, including administering medications. They also offer thoughtful advice on pet care and carry product knowledge about the items in our shop.

First up is Chloe, who has been part of the D’Arcy’s ARC family for two years. Outside of the shelter, Chloe has a 13-year -old dog named Mya, and is a full-time pre-vet student at the University of Manitoba. 🐾

Q: Why do you work at D’Arcy’s ARC?
Chloe: I’ve always loved animals! I really wanted a job where I could make a difference by caring for and advocating for animals in need.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about working at D’Arcy’s ARC?
Chloe: Spending time with the animals and helping connect them to their forever families.

Q: If you were an adoptable currently in the shelter, who would you be and why?
Chloe: Cruller, because we’re both a little shy, and we both love a good nap!

Q: What’s your favorite product in the shop?
Chloe: RC Pet collars—we have a great variety that fits every shape and size!

It’s Meow-loaf 🍞

Introducing Meow-loaf, an adventurous 8-week-old brown tabby who’s as brave as he is cute! This little guy was found in a parking lot on Donald St. in downtown Winnipeg, but now he’s ready to find his forever home.

With his playful energy and fearless curiosity, Meow-loaf is always the first to explore new toys and pounce on any opportunity for fun. Whether he’s teaming up with his sister, Cat-serole, or going on solo adventures, this domestic short-haired kitten will fill your home with joy and a lot of purr-sonality!

This week’s update comes from .k, who adopted Gambino, formerly known as Severus PsPsSnape.

“This is Gambino. I adopted him at through back in late August 2023. His name was “Severus PsPsSnape”. When I was about to pick a cat to adopt, Gambino was the first kitten to jump into the cat carrier, it was decided, he will be my cat! He adopted me :) It’s been a year Gambino has been living with me! Life you know it has been a roller coaster with him of his high energy doing the zoomies and his needy cuddles every night. Very affectionate boy when he wants to curl up beside me in bed.

Meet Petratishkovna “Tish” Katsufrakis 📖

Tish was rescued from a cat hoarding situation in the North Whiteshell area in August—thanks to Manitoba Parks—Tish has found her way into our care. Despite her tough start, this 2 year old has blossomed into an affectionate, resilient cat who loves head bumps, gentle pets, and the company of other cats.

Tish arrived with her siblings, Tino, Carver, and Lor—affectionately known as “The Weekenders”—but unlike her quirky namesake, this little lady actively seeks out affection. She’s perfect for curling up beside you with a novel, adding a touch of warmth to your reading nook, or even providing a little background purring for your next book club discussion.

Tish may take a little time to adjust to a new home, but with patience and love, she’ll become your loyal, cozy companion. We’re closed on Mondays, but you can reach us Tuesday through Sunday at 204-888-2266 or stop by 730 Century Street to meet her in person!

Get lost in Walter Whiskers’ ocean eyes 🌊

Walter is a large and lazy 3-year-old Siamese with striking blue eyes and a sleek coat.

Though he was sadly relinquished by his previous owners due to allergies, he’s still full of love and longing for a forever home. He adores snuggling up close, often curling into laps or cozy corners, and he’s generous with gentle kisses, making him the perfect cuddle companion. Walter would do best as a solo cat.

While his journey hasn’t been easy, Walter is ready to find a family that will cherish him for the special companion he truly is.

Meet Lacey 🎀

Lacey is a sweet nine-month-old shepherd cross who has made an incredible transformation since arriving at the shelter in August 2024. Lacey and her sister, Cagney, arrived with many wounds and ticks from their past, but their spirit has proven unbreakable. Lacey deserves to find a loving home just like her sister did 🩷

Lacey is not only a lovable companion but also adores spending time with other dogs, always ready for a playful chase or a friendly game of tug. Her resilience and playful nature remind us of the joy that comes from healing and love.

Our Thrift Store at 1076 Main Street will be closing on December 21, 2024. We are still accepting secondhand donations.

While this was a hard decision due to rising costs, we’re excited to focus our efforts on our other amazing locations!

Cinder is one cool cat and she knows it 🔥

Cinder is our longest term resident, having arrived at the ARC in March 2024. This smokey grey and white 1.7-year-old gal will keep you humble at home with her judgemental expressions. But don’t let that RBF fool you—she warms up fast to people! Once the sparks fly, she’s all about cuddles and playtime.

Cinder has a smouldering energy that other female cats don’t love. She would do well solo in a home, or with a relaxed male feline pal to cuddle up and play with.
