Happy New Year to you and yours!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I decided to take time off and disconnect from everything to fully connect with my little girls, family, and friends. It was much needed, and I feel so blessed!!

2025 has now arrived, and there are some new things in store on the training front this year. All new classes are starting in a few short weeks on Jan 21st, so if you have an entry level dog or a dog who has some skills, then head on over to my website for class details and enrolment!

Private training sessions will continue booking into later this month and February, so if you can't partake in a regular class or need more complex or specific assistance, then these sessions may be a great fit for you.

Whatever you need, Tess's Dog Training will do our best to assist you and your canine companion. We hope you all have amazing start to 2025, many blessings and best wishes as you start fresh this year!

It's your resident dog trainer here!

Just wanted to share some tips for Halloween tonight when it comes to our pets. I always pass on this info to my clients as well, so Halloween can be safe and fun for everyone. Both happy socialized dogs and quieter dogs when scared, startled, nervous or threatened may feel the need to bolt, growl, bite, hide etc, and for a few hours this evening, I always suggest just keeping them home, safe away from the doors enjoying their own treats :)

1. Keep pets, especially dogs, away from your door during trick-or-treat times. Kids coming to the door yelling and in costumes can make dogs feel nervous or threatened. It's dark, there's masks, and strange outfits, and you are constantly opening the door. It's best to keep your dogs safe in another room, in a crate or on leash away from the door. You wouldn't want your pets to bolt out the doors/gates, either.

2. Keep the treat bowls put of reach. Dogs have very good sniffers and can smell through wrappers. Chocolate, sugar, and xylitol can be very toxic in larger amounts.

3. If you were planning on taking your dogs walking during trick-or-treating, remember that even the most solid, socialized, and friendly dogs can be spooked. Kids may also run up to your dogs, which may startle them. Many kids will be running around, being loud and in costumes. Dogs have a harder time reading body language when people are in costume. There are lots of yards with spooky decor and animated stuff that can also freak dogs out.

4. Keep ID tags on your dog for just in case moments.

5. Only use pet costumes if your pet seems comfortable and isn't stressed wearing them. Remember, if you have multiple pet homes, body language can be harder to read for pets in costumes, so you don't want your pets getting confused with one another.

6. Watch tails and costumes around candle lit pumpkins and decor. Dogs are clumsy and flammable.

Last call to join in the all new group obedience classes starting TOMORROW, September 18th.

Our Beginner level is great for all ages, breeds, and minimal skill level or for those who want a refresher. The next level Advanced class is great for dogs 6 months or older with some understanding of basic training and completion of a beginner/basic level class.

Classes run for 6 weeks and run 1 hour each Wednesday evening. Located on the northeast side of Winnipeg at Pooches Playhouse. Classes are a combination of indoors and outdoors (weather permitting).

Group classes are a great way to build a good relationship with your dogs, grow healthy habits by committing to training, working on social skills, working on mental and physical exercise and establishing proper training, boundaries and manners!

There is only ONE spot left in both classes, so snag your spot quick!

Humans back to school, now it's time for the dogs! All new group classes are starting this week outdoors in Stonewall. Step out of the small training classroom and get into the real world of outdoor training. These 6 week training classes will be done in a few spots throughout the Town of Stonewall. Great for all ages and skill levels! For those dogs with knowledge of the basics or completion of a beginner level, then the Advanced class will be your fit.

Let's enjoy Fall together and get the dogs ready for winter adventures and holidays! Obedience classes are an amazing way to build a healthy relationship with your dogs as well as a great way to stimulate them both mentally and physically! Come join us!

Unfortunately, Fall is just around the corner (slow down pumpkin spiced friends!)... but with summer coming to an end, that means a whole new set of group obedience classes are up and ready for enrolment. These Stonewall classes are going to be a bit of a switch up from the original Stonewall Quarry Park classes. These new Stonewall classes are going to be designed to train our dogs in different parts of the town, including but no longer limited to just Quarry Park.

Classes start September 5th and run each Thursday for 6 consecutive weeks. Lets enjoy Fall, have fun and explore Stonewall together with our canine companions!

Last Paws In the Park group obedience class for the summer! Tuesday, August 20th at The Forks in Winnipeg. This class is suitable for those who have completed a Beginner or Advanced level class or who have a decent foundation of basic training. Class is just over an hour long and we will explore the Forks park, practicing a variety of obedience skill and tricks. Only a few spots left, so if you want to join in the fun, head on over to the website to enrol!
