The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter is Manitoba’s first registered charity, NO-KILL animal shelter. Our Charitable Registration number is

Our Mission

The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter is a non-profit charity committed to providing a euthanasia-free environment for unwanted animals through the provision of interim care and arrangement of adoptions to suitable owners.

Our Vision

The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter aspires to a society in which pets are accorded the right to life and are recognized as beings with feelings that have the right to loving care. The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter works towards this end by:

-Alleviating the suffering of animals by providing interim shelter
food and medical care

-Educating the public at every opportunity regarding the health-care of pets, and owners’ responsibilities concerning spaying and neutering

-Participating in spaying and neutering programs through coordination and liaisons with veterinary hospitals

“These two adopted me in November 2023. They have such different personalities. Cali (now about 15 years old) spends her days snoozing and snacking. She prefers quiet solitude unless she specifically asks for chin scritches. Cheeto, on the other hand (now about 5 years old) thinks he’s a puppy dog! He zooms around the house, greets everyone at the door, and sleeps stretched out right next to me at night... definitely an orange cat! One thing they have in common is their love of sunbeams especially on these cold winter days!”

Billy, our last intake of 2024, would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 🎉
She, and many others, are spending 2025 warm, fed, and safe, thanks to supporters like you! In 2024, we rescued 481 cats and dogs. 481 beautiful souls who will never know the feeling of hunger, mistreatment, or the stress of the elements again. We could not do this without all of our amazing volunteers, donors, adopters, rescue partners, and supporters. Thank you for empowering us to do this work ❤️ Here’s to bigger and better in 2025 🥂

These cheerful pups had to pass through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then walk through the Lincoln Tunnel, just to make it here to the shelter! Their journey isn’t over yet though - next stop, forever homes 💕
These handsome boys are ohhhh so snuggly! They love to play with their favourite humans (and other animals!) and will happily flop in your lap after a day of fun. They’re smart pups, eager to learn and grow with you!

‼️Gravy needs your help‼️
Gravy, the sweetest soul you could meet, is currently at the vet having his tail amputated. We aren’t sure what trauma he went through, but unfortunately discovered an injury that damaged all his nerves and left his tail necrotic. This poor boy has been a champ through his tests and treatments, and will surely adapt easily to the loss of this limb. This is an expensive surgery, and will require medication and specialized wound care afterwards, lovingly provided by one of our staff who is fostering him throughout his recovery. Any contribution towards this process would be greatly appreciated!

Meet Joey ❣️
Joey may just be one of the most unique looking fellas we’ve met! Better than his gorgeous face though, is his beautiful soul 🥰 Joey is a friendly, laid back guy. He loves to meet new people, and is always ready to relax. His calming presence makes for great company! He’d surely love to curl up in your lap for a movie, or on a window sill for bird watching.

Joey is FIV positive, however, he doesn’t let that come in the way of living his best life! He does not currently require specialized care, and is otherwise happy and healthy. Because this can be transmitted to other cats, he will not be able to be adopted into a home with other cats, unless they are also already FIV positive.
